The insane levels of hatred that the 2016 Ghostbusters remake faced was absolutely nuts. With its all-female cast and outspoken progressive credentials, it found itself smack dab in the middle of a culture war that’s still waging on to this day.
The 1984 original is, of course, beloved by almost everyone and though hopes were high that Paul Feig’s stab at the franchise would prove the haters wrong and turn out to be a smash hit, sadly, it sucked big time. And now, with the recent announcement that Jason Reitman will be taking his turn with the property next and giving us a Ghostbusters 3 that completely does away with the 2016 effort, it seems that we won’t be seeing the all-female team ever again.
For most people, that’s probably a good thing, but for Leslie Jones, she’s not too happy about it. The actress, who played Patty in the reboot, took to Twitter this weekend to share her thoughts on Reitman’s upcoming film, and she didn’t hold back in the slightest.
So insulting. Like fuck us. We dint count. It’s like something trump would do. (Trump voice)”Gonna redo ghostbusteeeeers, better with men, will be huge. Those women ain’t ghostbusteeeeers” ugh so annoying. Such a dick move. And I don’t give fuck I’m saying something!!

Ouch! Clearly, she’s pretty mad about the recent announcement regarding where the franchise is headed next, but when it really comes down to it, the main issue with something like the 2016 reboot isn’t the gender of the cast. Rather, it’s just the fact that in all honesty, the movie wasn’t very good.
Look, if Hollywood wants to play the progressive card and break through that female-ensemble blockbuster glass ceiling, we’re all for it. But they need to ensure they’re making great films rather than trying to skate by on feel-good political vibes, which is what Sony was trying to do back in 2016.
But we digress. At the moment, it seems Jones isn’t the only one upset by the Ghostbusters 3 news, as the fanbase has so far shown itself to have some pretty mixed reactions. But that was to be expected, really, and with word that the original cast might be back on board here to pass the torch, we’re hopeful that things turn out a lot better than the last time the property was seen on the big screen.
