Chris Pine Doesn’t Think He’ll Return After Wonder Woman 1984

Chris Pine has been a regular feature of Patty Jenkins’ work in recent years, having collaborated with the director on both Wonder Woman and the upcoming Wonder Woman 1984, as well as the new miniseries I Am the Night. But while Jenkins claims to already have plans for a third installment in the Diana Prince solo saga, it sounds like this is one project that Pine won’t be a part of.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actor alleged that 1984 will probably be the DCEU swan song of Captain Steve Trevor:

“I think Steve’s done. I think Steve’s done his bit. I wish them all the luck in the world.”

Seeing how Jenkins reportedly told Pine that he’d be back for 1984 while they were still halfway through shooting the first Wonder Woman, it seems unlikely that the director has any plans to call on Pine for Wonder Woman 3, but hey, most of us didn’t expect the character to even make it past one movie.

Regardless, it’s difficult to see how Steve could fit into any further films in a way that keeps in continuity with later entries in the DCEU timeline like Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, both of which seem to indicate that the character is long dead. Granted, 1984 is already at risk of contradicting of those flicks by bringing back Steve in the first place, but going by all we’ve heard, it certainly sounds like the character’s second life will probably be relatively brief.

In any case, it’s strange to think that filming on Wonder Woman 1984 wrapped last year and yet the movie is still well over a year from release, but we’ll find out how Steve fares in his presumed DCEU finale when the pic hits theaters on June 5th, 2020.
