Blumhouse’s Halloween Sequel Gets The Honest Trailers Treatment

Proving that no feature film is immune to the Honest Trailers treatment, the good folks over at Screen Junkies have turned their attention to Halloween, the 2018 sequel from Blumhouse and director David Gordon Green.

By and large, Michael Myers’ long-anticipated return was a resounding success, given Halloween earned rave reviews and a healthy $253 million at the global box office. It’s not enough to set the world on fire, but for an R-rated trip down memory lane, Green’s sequel ticked all the right boxes – that is, until Screen Junkies claimed their next victim as part of the ongoing (and frankly hilarious) Honest Trailers video series.

Here’s a snippet:

After nine sequels and reboots that ranged from ‘meh’ to ‘please kill meh’, only one creative team can restore the Halloween franchise to its former glory: Kenny Powers and the director of Your Highness.

There are one or two hilarious observations peppered throughout the video essay, including the similarities between Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and the iconic Sarah Connor of the Terminator franchise. Also, it seems the townsfolk of Haddonfield spend way too much time pulling pranks and trying to scare one another – especially after that fateful night in 1978. The result? A whole lot of faux scares that precede the inevitable jump scares, which is a trick that David Gordon Green pulls one too many times.

Nevertheless, Halloween is able to stand on its own two feet as a wonderful expansion of the Michael Myers-fronted franchise, and one that will hopefully inspire a sequel of its own. Neither Blumhouse nor David Gordon Green have announced anything official, but we’ll be keeping you posted.
