Aquaman Now Tracking For $65 Million Opening Weekend

Earlier this week, The Wrap relayed a report from box office analysts that the upcoming Aquaman movie is currently heading for a $100 million-plus opening weekend. Since then, Deadline has come forward with their own tracking figures, and it seems that Warner Bros. has one more reason to believe they’re in for a merry Christmas.

According to these new forecasts, Aquaman’s five-day run over the holiday weekend, from Friday to Christmas Tuesday, is set to take in a total of around $100 million, with $65 million of that figure coming from the first three days aka its opening weekend. Though this total is still lower than the amount brought in by the commercially disappointing Justice League in its first five days ($111.9 million), it’s still not too shabby for a film with slightly over half the budget of Zack Snyder’s last flick.

Better yet, Deadline is quick to point out that Amazon Prime is offering exclusive tickets to its members for screenings held one week in advance of this holiday weekend, and so far, they’ve already sold 65%-70% of available seats. With this in mind, Warner looks set to add hundreds more screens for this deal.

Overall, the report paints an encouraging picture for Arthur Curry’s first standalone outing, with the feature said to be performing strong in unaided awareness with men and women alike. Moreover, while the review embargo for Aquaman is still a couple of weeks away from being lifted, the recent wave of social media reactions suggest that this could be the rare DCEU entry to play well with fans and critics alike, with several early viewers going as far as to praise James Wan’s picture as the franchise’s best movie to date. All that being said, the real test comes when the film hits theaters on December 21st.
