Avengers: Endgame Directors Say There’s A High Probability It’ll Be 3 Hours

For all the commotion around Avengers: Endgame and the many details that directors Anthony and Joe Russo refuse to reveal, it’s easy to forget that even they don’t know exactly what will and won’t be in the Avengers: Infinity War sequel, with the movie currently in post-production and with some way to go before the editing process is done.

One thing in particular that’s been hotly debated is Endgame‘s runtime, with the Russos saying a few times now that in its current state, it clocks in at about 3 hours. Like we just said, the post-production process is still underway and much can change between now and release, but it seems like that aforementioned length is still what the pair are aiming for.

Speaking with Empire Magazine (via Comic Book Movie), the brothers were asked about how long we can expect Endgame to run for and had the following to say:

“There’s a high probability that this movie will clock in at around three hours. It’s a big movie with a lot of story.”

They’re certainly right about that, and while from a commercial standpoint, you can imagine Marvel might want to trim the movie down to a more digestible length, there are surely tons of fans out there who’d be more than happy to see the sequel stretch out for as long as possible. After all, this might be the last time we get to witness the original Avengers together on the big screen.

Besides, 3 hours isn’t even that long when compared to some of Endgame‘s peers. I mean, Infinity War ran for 2 hours and 40 minutes and took in more than $2 billion, while Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises amounted to 2 hours and 45 minutes back in 2012 and joined the billion dollar club with ease. Not to mention there have been countless other films that haven’t adhered to the typical 2 hour or so runtime and still done extremely well critically and commercially.

As such, 3 hours of footage shouldn’t hurt Avengers: Endgame in the slightest, and if the current levels of anticipation and excitement surrounding the pic are anything to go by, it would seem that most of the fandom wouldn’t even mind sitting through something even longer than that.
