Everyone loves Dave Bautista’s Drax, who effortlessly won over fans with his over-literal sensibility and thirst for bloody vengeance. In fact, the only folks who might have some hesitations about the Guardian right now are Disney and Marvel Studios, who’ve faced blunt and angry criticism from the actor about their decision to sack James Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
He’s been so consistent with his invective (not to mention his nonchalant attitude towards spoiling Avengers 4), in fact, that at this point, we assume that he’s trying to get out of his contract by forcing the studio to fire him. That’s something which has only become even more evident today, with the actor hopping on Twitter to react to the shocking news that Gunn’s jumped ship to go work for DC and write – and possibly direct Suicide Squad 2 – for them.
Upon hearing this, the portrayer of Drax the Destroyer took to the social media platform to re-Tweet Deadline’s article about the story and write: “Where do I sign up?” Of course, that’s hardly a confirmation of anything, but it does show that he’s interested in joining his former director and probably wouldn’t be too upset to leave his Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 commitments behind him to go be part of Suicide Squad 2.
Now, none of this is to say that Dave Bautista is being flippant – far from it, in fact, as he’s told us many times now just how much Drax means to him on a personal and professional level. But when it comes to returning for Vol. 3, it’s really more of a loyalty issue, as he’s willing to take a stand and show his solidarity for James Gunn.
“It is what it is if it costs me a job that’s just what happens. I always think as it like you can’t threaten a poor man with poverty. I grew up poor, I know what is like. I’m not afraid of losing money, It means nothing to me. I will wrestle in backyards in front of 10 people if I have to make a living. I’m not going to be flexible with my integrity.”
At the moment, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is on hold until further notice, while Suicide Squad 2 is still brewing in the early stages of development. Though with Gunn now locked in, we imagine production will get underway in earnest in mid-2019, and as soon as any further updates roll in, we’ll be sure to let you know.
