Is it too much of a stretch to say that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has spent the past two months spinning its wheels?
Ever since James Gunn was swiftly removed from the director post, Marvel’s cosmic threequel has teetered on the verge of pre-production for what feels like an eternity. Without a filmmaker at the helm, Guardians 3 suddenly became an unknown quantity within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is particularly disconcerting when you consider that the Guardians series has truly raked in the cash ever since Star-Lord and Co. were introduced to the movie world back in 2014.
Who will be the one to pick up the reins? That question continues to linger like a foul stench. And with no sign of any tangible progress, it’s looking increasingly likely that Drax the Destroyer (read: Dave Bautista) is about to jump ship. Which is to say that the actor is seriously considering a return to WWE.
Yes, not only has Bautista been teasing a possible role in the James Gunn-directed sequel to Suicide Squad, but the wrestler-turned-movie-star is on the verge of a WWE comeback, and confirmed as much during his appearance at SmackDown Live. It was here where Dave Bautista essentially squared up to Triple H, threatening a potential rematch which would surely interrupt his schedule for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 – at least, that was the initial fear until Marvel Studios quietly delayed their upcoming threequel.
Word on the street claims Guardians 3 won’t enter production until the summer of 2021, and while that hasn’t been confirmed outright, it would certainly open up the door for Dave Bautista to stage his WWE return – much to the bemusement of Triple H, no doubt. More on this story as it develops.
