While we anxiously wait to find out whether Godzilla: King of the Monsters can possibly live up to its drool-worthy trailer, filming may soon be ready to commence on the 2020 follow-up Godzilla vs. Kong.
Earlier this year, it was reported that production for the colossal crossover clash would begin this fall, and sure enough, a recent tweet from Reel News Hawaii suggests that this is still the case. Hawaii was already home to certain scenes of Kong: Skull Island, and the crew is scheduled to return to the region for Godzilla vs. Kong. This gives credibility to a new image, which features a sign for something called “Apex,” the confirmed working title of the Adam Wingard-helmed film.
Whether this is legit or not, you can expect further reports on the upcoming movie to come our way before too long. With the feature still a long way from release, much is to be learned about the nature of the film’s titular smackdown, though Kong director Jordan Vogt-Roberts has already assured us that the giant ape he once handled is currently “in great hands” with Wingard.
In the meantime, we’ve still got King of the Monsters stomping our way. While one leaked response to the movie suggested a mixed bag, we can still hold out hope that the big lizard’s imminent encounters with Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah will amount to one hell of a spectacle, and it certainly doesn’t hurt that the cast includes such noteworthy talents as Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Sally Hawkins, and Kyle Chandler.
Whereas King of the Monsters lands in cinemas May 31st, 2019, Godzilla vs. Kong won’t be coming our way until May 22nd, 2020.
