Disney Has Every Intention Of Using James Gunn’s Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 Script

Despite what rumors from earlier this summer said, it now sounds like Disney will likely be using James Gunn’s script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, after all. Of course, there’s absolutely no chance of the fired director being rehired at this point – you can thank his inappropriate tweets from yesteryear resurfacing for that – but folks have been wondering what would happen with the completed screenplay Gunn handed into studio execs earlier this year.

We’ve yet to get any official confirmation on the matter, mind you, but numerous reports point to it still being used and now, someone involved in the project is saying the same thing. Sean Gunn, brother of James and the actor behind Kraglin and the mocap work for Rocket Raccoon has said in a recent interview that as far as he knows, Disney’s still intending on using the script Gunn wrote.

“I don’t really know yet what’s going on with ‘Guardians 3.’ I know that Disney still wants to make the movie. I know that they have every intention of using the script that my brother wrote. Obviously, that was a very unfortunate situation for everybody, most of all him, but I am also somebody who had been preparing to spend half a year making that movie and now that’s up in the air.”

It’s not hard to see why Disney would want to keep Gunn’s screenplay in place here, as it would seriously set Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 back if they had to start from scratch. At the same time, though, you can bet that those who supported his firing won’t be pleased that he’s still involved in the production in any capacity.

Seeing as the GotG movies are effectively his babies, though, there was always going to be a lot of Gunn’s influence on the threequel, whether they used his script or not. I mean, his fingerprints are all over these characters and even though he won’t be behind the camera for their third solo outing, you can bet that his sense of humor and wackiness will come through loudly.

As it stands, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 remains on hold as the search for a director continues, but like Sean Gunn says above, Disney still intends on making it and as soon as we receive any further updates, we’ll be sure to let you know.
