‘This is what’s wrong with the internet’: ‘Mortal Kombat’ creator feels compelled to wade into ‘The Flash’ discourse

This article contains spoilers for The Flash.
The Flash may have been a massive disappointment for fans, but the creator of Mortal Kombat, Ed Boon, has his own concerns when it comes to the internet’s negative disposition.
There’s just something about the internet that makes people meaner. Perhaps it’s the anonymity combined with the echo chamber that amplifies negative opinions over positive ones but either way, there’s no doubt that harsh opinions and ridicule spread around the web faster than positive or even constructive feedback.
Such is the case with The Flash, a movie that has been at the center of a barrage of criticisms and cruel jokes for over a month now. From criticisms regarding the film’s lead, Ezra Miller who is quite the controversial figure, to people on Twitter pointing and laughing at the shocking CGI, reception has been so bad that the last remnant of the DCEU was dropped from cinemas and released on digital download faster than the titular character.
And the internet isn’t quite done with it yet, as debate over which of the film’s various cameos was the worst has been a hot topic as of late. There were plenty of cameos and fan service moments in the film, and honestly, they’re not that bad. For his part, Boon took issue with the negative angle of the question, asking why the focus had to be on the worst cameos.
“This is what’s wrong with the internet.
Why not ask which is the BEST cameo? Because negative stories get more engagement.”
Unfortunately, he may be right. The negative reactions to The Flash have certainly gotten more attention. Many agreed with Boon’s statement claiming that they enjoyed the cameos from the film.
“I for one thought that the cameos were great.
My Dad especially loved the George Reeves cameo, as that was the Superman of his childhood.”
“It was an awesome scene tbh”
“I agree. Every cameo was great.”
However, others were still unconvinced.
“Lmaoooo there’s nothing positive about any cameos in the Flash. Come on now.”
“All of these cameos were distasteful man. Not every media needs defending”
While The Flash may not have been a good film, Boon’s point surrounding negativity still stands. The discourse surrounding modern movies seems to be turning more black and white, where you have to either love something unconditionally or hate it with every fiber of your being. It’s fine to dislike a movie, even hate it, and move on with your life — the negativity doesn’t have to be spread.

Who is Robert Downey Jr.’s character in ‘Oppenheimer?’ The history, explained

Christopher Nolan has brought together the most promising cast to recreate the pivotal events surrounding the creation of mankind’s most perilous invention. With Cillian Murphy leading the cast of Oppenheimer, the legendary director has also managed to rope in the most loved MCU star to portray his nemesis, the one and only Robert Downey Jr.
Oppenheimer came to Downey because of Nolan’s wish to “get him to do something completely different, to lose himself in another human being.” In an interview with ET, Nolan revealed “Robert Downey Jr. is somebody who I’ve wanted to work with forever.” And now his dream has come true, with Downey Jr. set to appear as the film’s antagonist, the American businessman and naval officer Lewis Strauss.
Who was Robert Downey Jr.’s character Lewis Strauss?
Lewis Lichtenstein Strauss served two terms on the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) from Nov. 1946 to April 1950, and July 1953 to June 1958, respectively, the second as its chairman. As the head of the AEC, Strauss was instrumental in the contentious one-month-long hearings that resulted in the cancellation of J. Robert Oppenheimer’s security clearance in April 1954. The hearings broke Oppenheimer’s spirit and he was never the same person afterward. As a result, Strauss is viewed as a villain in American history.
Strauss developed a dislike for Oppenheimer, who had led the Los Alamos Laboratory during the Manhattan Project while serving as an AEC commissioner. He despised Oppenheimer for a number of personal reasons, one of which was their opposing political ideologies — Strauss was a conservative Republican, whereas Oppenheimer was a liberal with Communist ties.
Strauss mistrusted Oppenheimer and began to suspect that he was a Soviet snoop because of his prior Communist associations. In an effort to find proof of Oppenheimer’s betrayal, Strauss asked FBI director J. Edgar Hoover to start tracking Oppenheimer’s whereabouts in September 1953. However, the tracking uncovered no evidence of disloyalty.
The Oppenheimer matter quickly became a cause célèbre with Strauss frequently being viewed as the villain of Oppenheimer’s life. However, he also had supporters who believed that the hero and villain roles had been flipped. Nevertheless, Lewis Strauss is still regarded as one of the key characters in the development of nuclear weapons, American nuclear energy policy, and American nuclear power. He died on January 21, 1974, at the age of 77.
Robert Downey Jr. on playing Lewis Strauss in ‘Oppenheimer’
Nolan offered Downey Jr. the role of Lewis Strauss saying “What about just inhabiting this real-life figure? Losing any associations we have with Robert Downey Jr., seeing [you] do something that you’ve never done before,” the director told ET. And needless to say, Downey was “thrilled to be offered the challenge like that.”
The 58-year-old actor also had some praises for Nolan and he reiterated that playing Strauss “was an exceptionally taxing venture,” and that it mattered more than the money that came with it:
“We all know we’re doing something with a master filmmaker. We’re all there for the love of it, because this was a money gig for none of us. It was an exceptionally taxing venture. And we’d all do it again.”
Nolan has placed his full faith in Downey Jr. and seems impressed by his work. “I think his work in the film is really going to surprise people. I think it’s quite remarkable,” the director said of him.
Downey’s last role in Dolittle as the 19th-century Welsh veterinarian was met with negative reviews. But he now has the perfect opportunity to remind everyone of his acting chops.
Oppenheimer opens in theaters on July 21.

The plot centers on how these two girls, who couldn’t be more different, find their own voices after being thrust into strange situations. They overcome obstacles and learn to value the unique perspectives of one another. The film also shows how music serves as a unifying force for people formerly at odds with one another. At its core, Barbie in Rock ‘N Royals conveys a powerful message about being authentic and unafraid to challenge norms and preconceptions. Princess Courtney and Erika show that trying new things is good and that individuals shouldn’t limit themselves to one label.

As a result, she develops an appreciation for her distinctive dancing technique. The Snow Queen, the ruler of the enchanted ballet realm who stands in the way of Kristyn’s return home, is the film’s adversary. Barbie in The Pink Shoes presents a vivid and stunning portrait of the ballet world, complete with fascinating dancing scenes and some of the most well-known ballet music.

Kara’s father, King Constantine, sends her on a journey to save the stars, believing she is the one to do it. Princess Kara embarks on an intergalactic adventure to a world she has never visited before with her loyal companions, a kooky hoverboard champion named Sal-Lee, and a band of cute critters. The crew must overcome exhilarating trials and unforeseen troubles to save the stars and get them dancing again.
6. Barbie and Her Sisters in A Pony Tale (2013)

In this movie, Barbie and her sisters go to Aunt Marlene’s riding academy in Switzerland for a pleasant summer vacation. The plot revolves around the characters’ time spent in the academy, their relationships with the horses, and the eventual discovery of a legendary horse named Majestique. According to local legend, the mythical wild horses live in a secluded valley in the highlands.
After discovering the reality behind the myth, they go on a dangerous rescue attempt to bring Majestique and her herd to safety. Family, teamwork, and bravery are just a few of the topics Barbie and Her Sisters in A Pony Tale delves into, along with the mystical connection that can develop between a rider and their horse. The sisters’ triumphant cooperation and reliance on one another to achieve their goals serve as an inspiring example to the audience. The film is a visual feast, with its gorgeous renderings of the Swiss Alps and the meticulous animation of the horses and riding school.
5. Barbie: Thumbelina (2009)
Hans Christian Andersen’s Thumbelina is the basis for Barbie: Thumbelina, which updates the classic tale with an emphasis on environmental issues. Barbie stars as Thumbelina, a tiny girl who lives in harmony with nature in the magical world of the Twillerbees, hidden among the wildflowers. Thumbelina and her friends enjoy a peaceful life until their home is threatened by construction for a factory.
Thumbelina and her pals Janessa and Chrysella set out to halt development and save their home. Makena, a young girl they meet along the journey, decides to join their cause and become one of their closest allies. The environmental theme in Barbie: Thumbelina makes it unique among the Barbie films. It highlights the effects of human activities on the environment and inspires viewers to respect and care for the natural world. In showcasing Thumbelina’s bravery and will in the face of hardship, the film demonstrates that even the smallest of individuals can make a difference.

Eris has wreaked devastation on the undersea kingdom in her quest to seize control of the realm. It is now up to Merliah to accept her dual identity and save her people. Merliah initially doubts her newfound identity, but with the support of her new underwater friends, she eventually comes to terms with it and thrives. Ultimately, Merliah frees her mother and brings harmony back to the undersea kingdom.
3. Barbie and the Diamond Castle (2008)

Melody tells them that the Diamond Castle, the center of musical creation, is in jeopardy due to the ambitions of a muse named Lydia.
Liana and Alexa, equipped with a magic map, face many dangers and perils in their quest to locate the Diamond Castle and save Melody’s home. Despite many obstacles, they press on, buoyed by their undying friendship and mutual appreciation of music.
2. Barbie in The 12 Dancing Princesses (2006)
The plot of Barbie in The 12 Dancing Princesses centers on King Randolph, who summons his strict relative, Duchess Rowena, to the castle to educate his twelve daughters on appropriate royal etiquette because he is worried they are becoming too independent. Rowena, however, is more of a dictator than a teacher, as evidenced by her prohibiting the girls from engaging in their one genuine passion: dancing.
The sisters uncover a fantastic realm in their late mother’s dancing pavilion while exploring their mansion. It’s a magical location where their wishes are granted, and they can freely dance. The most wondrous magic is that one minute in this enchanted realm costs one second in the real world. However, when King Edward suddenly becomes ill, and Duchess Rowena assumes power, things go wrong. The sisters know they must cooperate to save their father and the kingdom. They outwit Rowena by banding together and using their shared passion for dance to rally behind a common goal of reclaiming their world.
1. Barbie in the Nutcracker (2001)
Featuring Barbie as Clara, Barbie in the Nutcracker combines elements from E.T.A. Hoffmann’s The Nutcracker and the Mouse King with those from Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker ballet. Clara’s aunt gives her a magnificent Nutcracker doll for Christmas, and the story opens with her opening it. Later that night, after the Mouse King has broken into Clara’s parlor, the Nutcracker comes to life to protect her.
After waking up and helping the Nutcracker, she is reduced in size by a spell cast by the Mouse King, who then runs away. Since only the Sugarplum Princess can defeat the Mouse King’s spell, Clara and the Nutcracker must go on an incredible quest to locate her. Along the way, they encounter friendly and dangerous figures like the Snow Fairy and the Gingerbread Boy.

The even worse sequel to an awful actioner the cast didn’t even enjoy making in the first place stages a Netflix rescue mission

Sylvester Stallone went on record saying Escape Plan 2: Hades was the worst production he’d ever been a part of throughout his entire half-century career, while Dave Bautista admitted he only signed on for the chance to work with the Rocky and Rambo legend. So, what did the pair do next? Why, they agreed to return for threequel The Extractors, of course.
If ever there was a Sly-driven IP that didn’t need to exist beyond one movie, this was it. After all, the entire selling point of the original Escape Plan was the novelty of seeing Stallone share top billing with rival-turned-BFF Arnold Schwarzenegger for the first time ever, and there clearly wasn’t any more mileage in the property beyond that.
The Extractors was savaged by critics and shunned by fans of the genre, with the leading man’s Ray Breslin back again to rescue the kidnapped daughter of a tech mogul from a high-tech prison facility that also ends up with his girlfriend being captured for plot-related reasons, leading to yet another interminable infiltration that sees everyone involved doing nothing but go through the motions.
Stallone has been in worse films that this, which isn’t a compliment given his spotty track record accumulated over decades of absolute dreck, but it appears Netflix subscribers are willing to give Escape Plan 3‘s wretched response a bye, seeing as FlixPatrol has named it as one of the streaming service’s most-watched titles around the globe. Mercifully, though, there hasn’t been a fourth chapter… yet.

MCU Phase 4 favorites battle it out to be crowned Marvel’s only hope of replacing Iron Man

The ever-expanding MCU introduced a huge number of new characters across Phase 4. This era coincided with Marvel making waves on Disney Plus, which proved to be an opportunity for a lot of fresh blood to arrive on the scene.
But can any of these new faces ever really live up to the popularity of Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark? Fans over on r/MarvelStudios are currently evaluating the new(ish) arrivals and singling out those who might have what it takes:
The consensus seems to be that none of these characters is ever going to be as big as Tony Stark, though when Kevin Feige starts unveiling the MCU Fantastic Four and X-Men those actors could be in with a chance.
As for this lot, there’s a good argument Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, and Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan are so well cast they’ll each play the roles for years and gradually build audience affection.
Moon Knight also gets a nod, with Oscar Isaac’s multilayered performance surely enough to carry the character through to a solo movie. Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi also seems destined for big things and we’re eager to see him return.
All that said, we agree that there will almost certainly never be another Iron Man-level MCU hero. Throughout Phase One the story was anchored around Stark, with that focus paying off in the showstopping Endgame. Since then the MCU is firmly an ensemble franchise and we suspect that’s just the way Disney likes it, as no one star is bigger than the Marvel brand.
Even so, we suspect that once we get the MCU Wolverine, Magneto, and Professor X those characters and actors will see a burst of instant popularity. But Stark-level popularity? We doubt it.

The star of the Marvel multiverse’s very first franchise won’t make ‘Deadpool 3’ return for two major reasons

At this point, just about anyone who’s ever worn a superhero costume in a Marvel movie is being linked to Deadpool 3, and the even weirder thing is that any of them could plausibly happen. The signature irreverence of the Ryan Reynolds-fronted franchise means we can fully expect Wade Wilson’s MCU debut to flip the notion of fan service on its head. I mean, Jennifer Garner’s great, but was anyone really chomping at the bit to see her reprise the Fox-verse’s Elektra?
Another legacy star whose name has been discussed in conjunction with the movie in recent days is none other than Wesley Snipes, the Daywalker himself. It’s often overlooked these days that, long before the MCU first opened its eyes, 1998’s Blade was the first Marvel movie to spawn its own trilogy. So, in theory, bringing Snipes back to his role, shortly before Mahershala Ali makes it his own, in DP3 would be a smart move. However, we can likely well and truly dispel any chance of this happening.
In the face of rumors flying around about Deadpool teaming up with Snipes’ Blade, scooper MyTimeToShineHello pointed out the two very good reasons why this is unlikely to occur. For starters, Reynolds worked with Snipes before on 2004’s panned Blade: Trinity, on which Snipes was notoriously difficult. Secondly, and much more pertinently, Halle Berry — believed to be returning as Storm — is reported to have had an abusive relationship with Snipes in the early 1990s.
As the scooper succinctly put it, both Reynolds and Berry have “bad history” with Snipes so the Canadian star, who’s also a producer and co-writer on the threequel, will “never let him anywhere near this movie.”
It’s also worth pointing out that Snipes-as-Blade was likely never even on the table for a potential Deadpool 3 cameo, anyway, given that the film seems to be a celebration of Fox’s Marvel efforts and Blade was released by New Line Cinema. So, in short, anyone from a Fox movie could show up in DP3 — coming May 2024 — but we can stake these Blade crossover rumors for good right now.

‘Deadpool 3’ theory offers the worst possible suggestion for Hugh Jackman’s return that would ruin the whole movie

Imagine waiting six years for a new Deadpool movie and seven for the return of Wolverine but when it finally happens, it’s served with the worst possible twist. That’s what some fans are hoping will happen when Deadpool 3 rolls around next year.
According to a recent Reddit post, a possible theory for Hugh Jackman’s big introduction into the MCU is that he will be playing himself, the actor who plays Wolverine, instead of the clawed mutant. In this version of the film, Deadpool kidnaps the Australian actor because he’s convinced he’s his best friend Logan, and Jackman somehow feels forced to play along.
The comments are surprisingly backing the fantasy, with some scripting entire scenes of the imaginary film where Hugh Jackman’s claws are just part of his Australian upbringing.

Another scenario sees Jackman’s meta cameo as a funny quip before getting to the real deal. A similar setup has already been done in the post-credits scenes of Deadpool 2 where the merc with a mouth shoots the actor who plays him in real life in order to stop him from taking on the fantastically terrible 2011 film Green Lantern.

Now, that version could actually be part of Ryan Reynolds’ new outing as the beloved prankster. Back in 2018, the Deadpool actor said he wanted his buddy in a future film, not as Wolverine, but as someone even more powerful — the award-winning performer Hugh Jackman. That would explain all the nods to the actor in previous films like Wade wearing a paper mask of his face.
Regardless of what leaked set pictures might indicate, Jackman did say he’ll be playing “a dual role” (two different characters?) in the film, making the above theory entirely too possible.
Deadpool 3 is scheduled for a May 3, 2024 release.

‘Deadpool 3’ rumors suggest an entire generation of X-Men have been struck from the timeline

Deadpool‘s third journey to the big screen appears poised to stitch multiple generations of the MCU together.
We already know Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine will play a vital part in the upcoming threequel, and rumors about more OG X-Men have been swirling for months. Hopes are high that longtime favorites like Sir Patrick Stewart, Halle Berry, and Sir Ian McKellen will make a return alongside Jackman, after — for most, at least — nearly a decade away from their iconic characters.
They aren’t the only mutant hopefuls fans are praying will make an appearance in the flick, however, and the second generation of X-Men are nearly as beloved as the original. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender dazzled in their roles as younger versions of Magneto and Xavier, and they’ve already enjoyed a (far too brief) cameo in a Deadpool flick before. Who’s to say they won’t return for the third?
As it turns out, Marvel Studios is saying exactly that, and breaking hearts in the process. Recent news indicates that parts of Deadpool 3 will take place in the original X-Men timeline, but far from the prequels. It looks like ‘Pool is set to avoid including the cast of X-Men: First Class, despite initial rumors they might make an appearance.
Its reasonable to exclude some of the X-Men team, considering how big its gotten over the years, but viewers are still disappointed by the news. As canwegetsometoast noted in their Instagram announcement of the decision, “McAvoy and Fassbender’s Professor and Magneto were inspired casting,” and many people would have loved to see more of them. This same sentiment is echoed across the post’s comment section, where people bemoan the lack of those fan-favorite recent additions, but note how fitting a return to the original timeline clearly is.
So, while the decision is ruffling some fan feathers, most people understand. They’d love to see Deadpool 3 deliver some closure for those beloved early 2000s characters, before pivoting to the MCU’s official X-Men team.

The best Taylor Zakhar Perez movie and TV shows, ranked

Star of the upcoming Prime Video LGBTQ+ romance Red, White & Royal Blue, Taylor Zakhar Perez, has been on the rise in Hollywood since his breakthrough role in The Kissing Booth. Although he was born in Chicago on December 24, 1991, Perez, the third youngest of eight children, spent much of his childhood in Chesterton, Indiana, and has Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, and Mexican ancestry.
On the weekends, the actor would help out at the family car body shop by changing tires. The actor received a swimming scholarship to attend Fordham University. Still, he declined to study Spanish, culture, and community at UCLA, with a minor in film and television. At a young age, Perez began performing, debuting in opera houses with musicals. Then he traveled to Los Angeles and began a career as a model. He used a sheet as a background for his bedroom picture shoots, mailed the results in manila envelopes with self-tapes, and soon appeared in movies and on television.
Today, his charismatic on-screen persona and wide acting range have earned him widespread acclaim and a loyal fanbase. Perez has shown that he is one of Hollywood’s most promising talents by being able to perform in a wide variety of genres and portraying a range of characters, from comedies to dramas. Let’s look at his acting career and rate some of his most compelling performances.
8. Minx (2022)
Ellen Rapoport is the brains behind the American comedy TV series Minx, which stars Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson. The plot of Minx centers on an aspiring writer named Joyce Prigger (Ophelia Lovibond) in the 1970s, who is a feminist and wants to shed light on the issues that women wish to discuss and deal with in their daily lives. With publisher Doug Renetti (Jake Johnson), she launches the first women-only erotic magazine in history, which turns out to be more complex than they’d like to think.
Shane Brody, played by Taylor Zakhar Perez, is a firefighter and aspiring model who auditions for Joyce’s magazine spread. His attractive appearance and laid-back demeanor make him popular with all he meets. The premiere of Minx aired on HBO Max on March 17, 2022, and the show’s second season was ordered in May 2022. However, HBO Max canceled Minx in December 2022, although production on Season 2 was already underway. Nonetheless, Starz opted to pick up the series, so the debut of Season 2 is scheduled on 21 July 2023.
7. Young & Hungry (2015)
The second season’s Young & Hungry episode, “Young & Oh, Brother!” is an entertaining mix of comedy, drama, and kitchen mayhem. The episode is elevated by the presence of Taylor Zakhar Perez, who plays Benji Rodriguez. Benji, Sofia’s brother, visits San Francisco, and he’s all grown up, unlike the young boy Gabi remembers. Despite Sofia’s caution to avoid her younger brother, Gabi is overjoyed when the adult Benji asks her out on a date. Will Gabi’s advances put a strain on their friendship? Meanwhile, Josh and Yolanda will have to get resourceful if they want to pull off a bachelor party for Elliott on such short notice.
However, when they implement their plan using a gay dating app, they all end up with more than they bargained for. Perez gives an excellent performance as Benji. He infuses the role with charisma, comedy, and honesty, making him an instantly endearing on-screen presence. Perez’s comedic timing is impeccable, and he consistently delivers hilarious lines without compromising his character’s integrity. His interactions with the other characters, especially Gabi, the show’s protagonist, are the source of most of the episode’s humor and warmth. Their on-screen connection is undeniable, and their interactions are among the episode’s most memorable moments.
6. iCarly (2012)
Taylor Zakhar Perez starred in an episode of the renowned Nickelodeon sitcom iCarly, titled “iGet Banned.” This episode, the fifth of the sixth season, debuted in 2012 and followed Carly (Miranda Cosgrove) and Freddie (Nathan Kress), who are irritated when they find that their apartment building’s doorman, the unpleasant Lewbert (Jeremy Rowley), has returned. Meanwhile, at the Groovy Smoothie, T-Bo (BooG!e) bans Sam (Jennette McCurdy) and Gibby (Noah Munck) for refusing to pay for their smoothies since they did not order the special bell peppers he included.
Keith, portrayed by Taylor Zakhar Perez, is a guy who has feelings for Carly, which Carly finds appealing. At the Groovy Smoothie, he appears when Carly orders a caffeinated drink in an attempt to appear more mature and attractive to him. As a result, some humorous situations arise, adding to the comedy nature of the show. Despite its brevity, Perez’s appearance in iCarly was a significant professional milestone. His performance as Keith was a launching point for his acting career and demonstrated his comedic chops.
5. Embeds (2017)
Embeds follows a group of young reporters who are embedded in a political campaign. Among them are five twenty-somethings, one of whom, Noah (Taylor Zakhar Perez), is a cocky trust-fund kid turned political reporter. Starring Don Tieri as the fictional Rhode Island governor, John Dobson, are television journalists Marissa (Kelsey Asbille), T. J. (Andre Jamal Kinney), Quinn (Max Ehrich), and Syd (Chloe Brooks).
They all work for rival networks and spend their whole time on the road covering Dobson’s primary campaign. While Embeds is a sitcom that intentionally mocks journalists, it does an excellent job of depicting the fast-paced world of political journalism, the isolation of the campaign road, and the hilarity of digital-era publishing. The witty script and snappy dialogue in Embeds are two of the show’s many lauded qualities.
4.1Up (2022)
Kyle Newman wrote and directed the 2022 American comedy film 1Up, starring Paris Berelc, Taylor Zakhar Perez, Hari Nef, and Ruby Rose, and released on July 15, 2022, by Amazon Studios. The plot revolves around Vivian “V” Lee, a gifted gamer whose abilities have earned her a college scholarship and a spot on Barrett University’s male-dominated squad, the Betas. The game begins when the Betas’ captain, Dustin, played by Taylor Zakhar Perez, reminds V that she will never be a starter.
V recruits her best friend Sloane, and together with their coach Parker, they build a formidable all-female team intending to reach the nationals and defeat the Betas. 1Up is significant because of the attention it has brought to the issue of prejudice and sexism in the eSports industry. The story deviates from the norm by emphasizing the accomplishments of female gamers.
3. The Kissing Booth 2 (2020)
Taylor Zakhar Perez plays new student Marco Peña in the Netflix film The Kissing Booth 2, starring Joey King as Elle Evans. Marco is introduced as the new “hot” guy at school, which piques the students’ interest, especially the girls. Marco immediately becomes a school star due to his pleasant character, remarkable good looks, and impressive musical talent, proving he is more than just a pretty face. Marco is also tremendously gifted and regarded as one of the most incredible dancers in the school, having won the “OMG he’s so hot” competition.
Marco may be well-liked, but he doesn’t fit the mold of the usual high school heartthrob. He’s a nice guy who doesn’t care where he stands on the high school popularity ladder, preferring to devote himself to his true love of music and dancing. In addition, he has a tender side that shines through most when he is with his loved ones. Marco becomes a trusted confidant of Elle when her relationship with Noah (Jacob Elordi) deteriorates over the distance. When the two decide to compete together in a Dance Dance Mania tournament, their friendship takes a romantic turn.
2. The Kissing Booth 3 (2021)
The Kissing Booth 3 is the trilogy’s conclusion that began with the novel of the same name by Beth Reekles. The story follows protagonist Elle as she struggles with the decision between attending Harvard or Berkeley. At the same time, she and her loved ones spend the summer with her boyfriend Noah, best friend Lee, and their respective families as they prepare to sell their beloved beach property.
When Elle decides to put off making her final college choice, the plot takes an unexpected turn. A parallel plot concerns Elle’s efforts to adapt to Linda, her father’s new lover. Taylor Zakhar Perez returns as Marco Valentin Peña. Marco’s presence provides a welcome contrast and a different romantic perspective amid Elle’s problem of choosing between Harvard and Berkeley and her troubled relationship with her boyfriend, Noah.
1. Red, White & Royal Blue (2023)
American director Matthew Lopez and writer Ted Malawer are at the helm of the upcoming romance comedy Red, White & Royal Blue. Casey McQuiston’s 2019 novel of the same name inspires this film, which sets its beautiful LGBTQ+ love tale in an alternate universe and tells the narrative of a hidden affair between a First Son and a British prince. In Red, White & Royal Blue, Alex Claremont-Diaz (Taylor Zakhar Perez) becomes the American version of a young royal after his mother is elected President. He is handsome, personable, and bright, making him very popular among young people.
The only hitch is that Alex has a long-standing grudge against his British equivalent, Prince Henry (Nicholas Galitzine). And drama ensues when the tabloids get their hands on a photo of an incident between them. After family and officials stage a temporary ceasefire between the two, what starts as a superficial Instagram friendship soon becomes something far deeper for Alex and Henry. Nicholas Galitzine, Uma Thurman, Stephen Fry, Sarah Shahi, Rachel Hilson, and Ellie Bamber are just a few of the stars in the film’s ensemble cast. Amazon Prime Video will debut Red, White & Royal Blue on August 11, 2023.

James Gunn casting half of DC’s Fantastic Four before Marvel hires any says it all about the state of the MCU

The new DCU just keeps getting bigger thanks to the latest procession of casting announcements for Superman: Legacy, with James Gunn adding a whole roster of superheroes to the franchise reboot. In fact, those who know their DC Comics are pretty sure that Gunn is already paving the way for an underrated super-team, and if that’s the case he’s already showing up Marvel’s failure to capitalize on the hype for Fantastic Four.
Two of the fresh additions to Superman: Legacy are Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, two characters who happen to comprise half of The Terrifics, DC’s very obvious homage to the Fantastic Four. So given the fact that Gunn is already halfway to assembling the Terrifics on the big screen while Kevin Feige has yet to hire any of Reed Richards’ crew, that’s not exactly the best look for the House of Ideas.
A Fantastic Four relaunch was officially announced from Marvel way back in 2019. Meanwhile, Superman: Legacy was only unveiled this past January.
While it’s crickets for the Fantastic Four, Gunn is moving like the Flash on Legacy.
It really is unclear what’s going on over in Marvel-land with the FF, although recent rumors maintain Adam Driver remains the studio’s top pick for Mr. Fantastic and the delay is due to contract negotiations held up by the actors’ strike. Having said that, Gunn’s own casting for Superman: Legacy seems to be going pretty smoothly.
And yet if Marvel wants to get Fantastic Four out in May 2, 2025, just months before Superman: Legacy is scheduled for July 11, it may need to get its stakes on or Gunn is liable to steal its thunder.

‘It really could not happen to a better person’: Rosario Dawson ‘stoked’ for Dave Filoni’s ‘Star Wars’ movie

It’s almost been four years since The Rise of Skywalker, and Star Wars has been a stranger to the silver screen ever since. Sure, the franchise fires have been kept burning by excellent Disney Plus shows like The Mandalorian and Andor, but we’re craving a full-on theatrical experience.
Thankfully, after many false starts, there are several projects coming down the line, including a new movie picking up Rey’s story set some years after The Rise of Skywalker, a film about the very earliest Jedi from James Mangold, and a project from Dave Filoni said to wrap up the Mandoverse Disney Plus shows and lead into The Force Awakens.
Ahsoka Tano will almost certainly be a big part of that, and we’ll get an idea of where her story is going when Ahsoka begins on August 23. Star Rosario Dawson will likely star in the movie, but right now she just sounds happy for Filoni that he’s got this top directing job, as she revealed to ComicBook:
“I’m just so happy he got it. Honestly, my uncle is a comic book artist. That is not the average transition coming from animation and going into directing, and especially a film. For all the nerds, I think for the cons and stuff, this is just like, ‘Ah!’ kind of status. So, I’m just super stoked for him because it really could not happen to a better person. He’s so talented and remarkable and awesome, and I love him. And I think what he learned in doing in animation, he’s blowing out of the water in directing and live action. So, I’m, as a fan, excited to watch that movie, whether I’m in it or not.”
It’s worth remembering that this won’t be Filoni’s first time directing a theatrical Star Wars release. He helmed 2008’s animated Clone Wars movie, which opened to some of the worst reviews the franchise has ever seen, and was a box office disappointment.
We’re prepared to cut him some slack on that, as George Lucas decided it’d be a theatrical release at the last minute. Plus, the Dave Filoni of 2008 has far less experience than Dave Filoni now. We’re still hopeful that one day he’ll take the top job at Lucasfilm and steer the entire franchise, as there are few people with as much love for a galaxy far, far away as him.

‘Hard pass’: Mark Hamill not interested in a ‘Star Wars’ spin-off guaranteed to cause nightmares

There’s plenty of Star Wars spin-offs out there; some good, some not so good, but one idea that involves Ewoks and drugs has been shot down by Luke Skywalker himself.
If you’ve seen Cocaine Bear then you know where this is going. Mark Hamill shared a fake poster for a spin-off that replaces the iconic bear with a soft and cuddly Ewok. He shared the image with a tweet that read ‘Hard Pass.’
Hard pass. pic.twitter.com/yEm2CMtDDY
— Mark Hamill (@MarkHamill) July 11, 2023
To be honest, I sort of have to agree with Mark here. Despite looking cute and cuddly, Ewoks are actually terrifying when you think about it. These little teddy bears were able to band together and take down the Empire on Endor. Imagine what one of them could do after snorting a bunch of cocaine.
It would still be kind of entertaining to watch. If Hamill’s not interested, maybe Daisy Ridley would be, her supposed return as Rey could just be a two-hour death match between her and an Ewok on cocaine. If it turns out anything like the original Cocaine Bear, then it could be just the kind of shake-up the franchise needs.
Fans jokingly confirmed that they would pay real money to see Cocaine Ewok in theaters.
“Let’s hope @WarwickADavis and his agent are already talking to the studio”
“I would go see it..”
“But I just bought my ticket because I thought you were in it.”
Maybe Mark was too quick to write this one off — it sounds like there’s potential here. The only issue is you’d probably have to call it spice and not cocaine in order to be in keeping with the Star Wars universe

Cillian Murphy has one condition to return for the legacy sequel hes been asked about for decades

Cillian Murphy is the talk of the town these days as the face of Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, which is due in theaters in a week and a half, and while the Irishman tends to be one of the quieter big actors working today, the consistent impact he brings to the screen makes the spotlight look more and more inevitable with every passing day.
And while Oppenheimer could very well be that tipping point, complete with Oscar buzz if the trailers are any indication, there’s one project that, if it ever came to fruition, would ensure Murphy’s domination of pop culture for a marked period of time, and that project is a sequel to 28 Days Later.
Murphy, of course, starred in the groundbreaking zombie film back in 2002, and while he wasn’t involved with the 2007 sequel 28 Weeks Later, the Peaky Blinders star revealed in an interview with Collider that he’s all but ready to hop in for a legacy sequel, so long as Garland and Danny Boyle reprise their writing and directing duties, respectively.
I was talking to Danny Boyle recently, and I said, “Danny, we shot the movie at the end of 2000.” So I think we’re definitely approaching the 28 Years Later. But like I’ve always said, I’m up for it. I’d love to do it. If Alex [Garland] thinks there’s a script in it and Danny wants to do it, I’d love to do it.”
28 Years Later certainly has a nice ring to it, and given that 28 Days Later‘s cultural impact proved to be alive and well with respect to the COVID-19 pandemic, the fact that we’re now living in a post-pandemic world would allow a potential legacy sequel to build on this impact with a wickedly sharp new lens. Here’s hoping Garland is cooking something up as we speak.
Meanwhile, Oppenheimer is due in theaters on July 21.
