Ryan Reynolds Reportedly Wants Deadpool To Hit On Wolverine In The MCU
Are we ever going to hear the end of Wolverine’s purported involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s continuation of the Deadpool franchise? Of course not, at least not until we find out some concrete facts surrounding the Merc with a Mouth’s third solo installment, which are very thin on the ground at the moment.
Ryan Reynolds admitted that the plan for Fox’s version of Deadpool 3 was to rope in Hugh Jackman’s Logan for what would have been a road trip buddy comedy set in an R-rated superhero universe, which is sadly unlikely to come to fruition at Disney and Marvel Studios. However, that hasn’t stopped Jackman from being linked with the project in any number of potential scenarios, with the latest touting that Wade Wilson is going to try and put the moves on the mutton-chopped mutant.
The source of the information does come from Reddit, though, but it also emanates from a source with what’s proven to be some solid insight into MCU-related scoops. While there’s no actual mention of if it’ll be Jackman or somebody else playing Wolverine, and Kevin Feige is remaining tight-lipped over the X-Men in general, it would at least be in keeping with Deadpool’s established comic book persona, not to mention playing off the long-running social media feud between the two actors.
That being said, Reynolds has been teasing some big Deadpool news online, so we could be finding out sooner rather than later what his hotly anticipated comeback could entail, but as an irreverent and self-aware character being dropped into a franchise that’s steadfastly played to its own rules, nothing can be taken off the table whether he’s hitting on Wolverine or not.

James Gunn Explains How Writing Scooby-Doo Changed His Life
You know you’ve made when even the worst of circumstances bring huge rewards, as James Gunn discovered when he was approached by Warner Bros. almost immediately after being fired from the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and offered any of the studio’s DC Comics properties that he wanted to write and direct.
The filmmaker ultimately plumped for The Suicide Squad over Superman, and now has a reputation as Hollywood’s go-to guy for ensemble-based superhero blockbusters. And yet, the success Gunn continues to enjoy can all be traced directly back to him writing the screenplay for 2002’s live-action Scooby-Doo, which was strange enough in itself given that he got his foot in the industry door by working for schlock merchants Troma in the 1990s. The 54 year-old recently took to social media and reflected on how the Mystery, Inc. adventure changed his life and career forever, as you can see below.

Before returning to pen Scooby sequel Monsters Unleashed, Gunn also wrote Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead remake, but it was clear his intentions were always to step behind the camera himself. After helming low budget tongue-in-cheek horror Slither and blackly comic vigilante thriller Super, he was chosen by Kevin Feige by tackle what was the MCU’s riskiest project ever at the time.
As we all know, the Guardians are now established as some of the most popular characters in the shared mythology, with over $1.5 billion in box office takings and a third installment set to start shooting later this year. Not only that, but The Suicide Squad arrives this coming August and HBO Max’s Peacemaker premieres in early 2022, all of which was borne from Gunn cracking the story for Scooby-Doo.

Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard Star Already Teasing A Third Movie
Buddy sequel Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard hits theaters tomorrow, and while the reviews have been pretty disappointing across the board, that probably isn’t going to stop the second installment from doing decent business at the box office.
After all, people are hardly expecting a cinematic masterpiece, they just want to see big movie stars go on broad comedic adventures while throwing R-rated insults at each other, blowing sh*t up, mowing down reams of disposable henchmen and dropping one-liners as they do it. If those are your expectations going in, then Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard delivers and then some.
The theatrical industry might be struggling to regain any semblance of normality following the crushing lows of the COVID-19 era, but The Hitman’s Bodyguard was a sleeper hit in 2017 that ended up earning over $176 million globally on a budget reported to be around the $50 million, so it’s not as though analysts are pegging the sequel to fly too high. When the dust settles, it’ll have no doubt made a profit and we’ll be hearing about another adventure for Ryan Reynolds’ Michael Bryce, Samuel L. Jackson’s Darius Kincaid and Salma Hayek as his wife Sonia.
In fact, in a new interview Hayek was asked about the potential for another madcap adventure involving the central trio, and it sounds as though the early plans are to increase it to a quartet.
“I hope so. If it happens, I know they’re adding one more person.”
Based on Hayek’s comments, the mind boggles as to what the marketing team are going to name this one. It’ll be a few months until we find out for sure whether it’s a go or not, but at this stage the chances of seeing The Hitman’s Wife’s Brother’s Cousin Twice Removed’s Dog’s Bodyguard, or whatever it’ll be called, are pretty high.

LEGO Batman Director Says The Sequel Would’ve Been A Justice League Movie
Warner Bros.’ ambitious plans for a shared LEGO universe fell apart due to a combination of commercial under-performance and general apathy, leading to The Billion Brick Race and a sequel to The LEGO Batman Movie ultimately getting canceled after the Ninjago spinoff and The LEGO Movie: The Second Part failed to pull in the desired box office numbers, with the rights now in the hands of Universal.
That means it’s pretty much over for any hopes of Will Arnett’s blocky Bruce Wayne getting a second solo outing, especially when Universal have plenty of big name properties of their own should they choose to mimic the formula that initially yielded so much success, with rumors already abounding that the next feature length LEGO outing will rope in characters from Fast & Furious and Jurassic Park.
In a new interview, director Chris McKay, who was initially slated to return for the follow up, revealed that his ambitious plans for The LEGO Batman Movie 2 would have been drawn influence from The Godfather Part II to jump back and forth between distinct timelines, and tell a Justice League-centric story in the process.
“Dan Harmon and Michael Waldron had done a first draft of the script that was really great. It was truly epic, both from an action standpoint and from a story standpoint. The structure was Godfather Part II, a story about Batman’s relationship to the Justice League and Superman now, as well as the formative moments of the Justice League and Batman’s relationship with Superman then.
The studio was leery of LEGO Batman being an actual Batman movie so I was constantly told to hold back. Audiences proved them wrong. I would have quadrupled down on making it as much of a real Justice League movie, with lots of jokes, cameos, intersecting storylines, references, etc. It would have been a very dense movie, as humanly possible.”
WB really don’t have much luck when it comes to adapting the DC Comics all-star team, with the live-action version taking two attempts split across a four-year period with over half a billion dollars funneled into production, marketing and distribution. So it’s not a shock that the animated Justice League found themselves subjected to behind the scenes turmoil, although Universal seizing control of the property hardly generated any headlines on a level close to the Joss Whedon and Zack Snyder debacle that was eventually resolved this past March via the Snyder Cut. The LEGO franchise will almost certainly be back, then, just without Batman and his buddies involved.
