Staffers from Democrat Joe Biden’s presidential campaign must remove TikTok from personal and work phones, a campaign official told The Verge. That’s because of security concerns around the popular app.

TikTok can access users’ clipboard content on iOS — potentially a problem for anyone using a password manager to log into secure accounts. Some politicians are particularly wary of TikTok because the video-sharing app is owned by Chinese internet company Bytedance.

The Biden campaign’s policy — first reported by Bloomberg — echoes that of other US government officials. The US departments of State and Homeland Security, the US Army, and the US Navy have already banned TikTok on government...

When he finally gets to play Black Adam in the next year or two, superhero movies will finally have an actor who resembles a superhero in real life. Rendering diminutive white guys in CGI suits is one thing, but casting a 6-foot-5 mountain of muscle is another. Henry Cavill has a job on keeping up with him if the mooted Black Adam/Superman showdown gets realized, that’s for sure. Perhaps that’s why Cavill stepped back into the gym a few weeks ago? Seems plausible to me.

Dwayne Johnson, on the other hand, has inherited a big screen bodybuilding throne previously held by Arnold Schwarzenegger. The movies that propelled him to superstardom include Jumanji, Fast & Furious… Baywatch? No, not Baywatch. Maybe San Andreas? Ouch.

Guess it’s just Jumanji and Fast & Furious then. As that little exercise goes to show, The Rock’s had nothing resembling the cultural impact Schwarzenegger had, nor does he share the latter’s gift for delivering one-liners. But hey, he’s not been an A-lister for very long. The Terminators and Predators of his career could well be in front of him.

The New Mutants Director Explains Why The Movie Can’t Go Straight To Digital

You may have heard this one before, but The New Mutants is tentatively penciled in to arrive in theaters next month. Of course, this sentence has been written many times since the X-Men spinoff was first scheduled for April 2018, with the tortured production being hit by constant setbacks that have seen it labeled as cursed.

Just when Fox’s last hurrah at the helm of the mutant franchise was set to finally be released, the Coronavirus pandemic came along and plunged the world into chaos, and it was almost fittingly one of the first movies removed from the calendar. Ever since it was accidentally listed for pre-order on Amazon, fans have been speculating that The New Mutants might end up skipping cinemas altogether and heading straight for digital, with Disney Plus rumored as the most likely destination. However, the movie is still approaching its fifth and possibly final release date, so fingers crossed that a project that first wrapped back in September 2017 will finally escape from cinematic purgatory.

In a recent interview, director Josh Boone explained why The New Mutants was always planned for a theatrical release, and it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the reason why is largely a contractual one.

“With most movies, you sign contracts that guarantee a theatrical release, so it needs to open to ever go digital in the first place. We just, too, would like to see people to see it in the theater. But it needs to obviously be at the right time when it’s safe to go back.”

Even though Disney are now handling distribution through the recently-renamed 20th Century Studios following their takeover of Fox, it sounds as though all of the previous contracts with the movie’s former owners still need to be honored. Specs for Samsung’s unannounced Tab S7 and Tab S7 Plus have leaked online, giving us an almost complete impression of what to expect from the company’s upcoming tablets.

WinFuture reports that the big difference between the Tab S7 and the Tab S7 Plus are the screens. The S7 Plus will reportedly have a 12.4-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2800 x 1752 and an in-display fingerprint sensor. The S7, meanwhile, is said to have a smaller 11-inch 2560 x 1600 LCD display and will have a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. Both screens will reportedly have a high refresh rate of 120Hz.

One of the stranger applications of deepfakes — AI technology used to manipulate audiovisual content — is the audio deepfake scam. Hackers use machine learning to clone someone’s voice and then combine that voice clone with social engineering techniques to convince people to move money where it shouldn’t be. Such scams have been successful in the past, but how good are the voice clones being used in these attacks? We’ve never actually heard the audio from a deepfake scam — until now.

Garmin services appear to be coming online after having been down since late Wednesday from an apparent ransomware attack. Garmin Connect, the service that lets runners, swimmers, and athletes of all sorts obsessively track their performance measured by Garmin wearables, is now syncing data again, The Verge can confirm. All of our training data collected since Wednesday is now visible in the Garmin app.

Dozens of relieved Garmin owners on Twitter are also reporting the first signs of life, seeing data collected from their wearables now appear in the Garmin Connect app on their phones.

A white Xbox Series X controller appears to have leaked online. An image of the white controller appeared on Reddit over the weekend, before the poster deleted their account and the image. Identified only as “Wolfy_Wizzardo,” the Reddit user claimed to have snapped the photo at a party in Washington state hosted by the child of a Microsoft employee. Before the account deletion, the Reddit account had been commenting and posting about topics in Seattle, Washington for months.

Apple has released a new high-end Thunderbolt 3 cable in its online store. The $129 Thunderbolt 3 Pro cable is 2 meters long, has a black braided design, and supports both DisplayPort output and USB 3.1 Gen 2 10Gbps data transfer — though of course data speeds can be up to Thunderbolt 3’s standard 40Gbps between compatible devices.

This is certainly not cheap for a cable, but there actually doesn’t seem to be a competing option that offers the same feature set for less.
