West Indies batsman Shai Hope is determined to improve his performance by providing his team good startsHorror icon and acupuncture enthusiast Pinhead is the most recognizable face in the Hellraiser movie franchise. Bringing up the series conjures images of the pale, terrifying visage in even the most casual fan. The problem is, he isn’t the most important character in the first two films. Pinhead shows up for a little while in the first movie before meeting his end in the second one. He dies at the hands of the pic’s true antagonist, newly minted Cenobite Dr. Chennard.
Still, it’s a testament to the writing in the Hellraiser series that Pinhead manages an arc between two short appearances. In the first film, his initial objective is Frank Cotton, a dead man trying to scheme his way back into the realm of the living. Pinhead initially stands alongside heroine Kirsty in capturing Cotton and returning him to the Cenobites’ “care.” He turns on her in the last act though, intending to drag her back, too. Her escape leads directly into Hellraiser 2, where Pinhead actually shows up in Kirsty’s defense against the aforementioned Chennard. He subsequently dies in the attempt.
That death manages to elevate a character that could have been a simplistic villain into someone with more dimension. It helps with the world-building inside Hellraiser’s lore, too. Pinhead illustrates what happens when and if Cenobites – created when humans give themselves over to Leviathan, the creatures’ deity and patron – regain their humanity. There’s even some of Pinhead’s origin story as WWI veteran Elliot Spencer woven into the beginning of Hellraiser 2. Pinhead’s death gets rid of an easy out, too: the humans are left on their own to fight the antagonist.
Of course, Hellraiser 3 brings the character back and more into the spotlight, giving us more of his origin story. But for those first two movies, Pinhead manages the trick of remaining mysterious and threatening while still showing an arc, and his death plays into that.
In an interview with ACE Universe, actor Ewan McGregor revealed that he’ll be voicing Jiminy Cricket in Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming adaptation of Pinocchio.
Based on a collection of Italian bedtime stories about a wooden marionette wanting to become a real child, the Pinocchio character was first made famous by Disney, who produced an animated feature on the subject in the 1940s. Apparently, del Toro has been wanting to tackle the intellectual property himself for quite some time.
At first glance, you may wonder why the director of thrillers like Pan’s Labyrinth and the Academy Award-winning adult drama The Shape of Water wants to adapt such childish source material. However, the story of Pinocchio is actually surprisingly dark. From escaping child slavery to battling a monstrous, carnivorous whale, the character has traversed more dangers than some of Disney’s most seasoned knights.
Then there’s McGregor himself who, as fans of films like Christopher Robin and Trainspotting know already, has quite a graveling and mature voice. Compared to Cliff Edwards, who lent his soothing vocal cords to the character of Jiminy in Disney’s initial adaptation, this casting decision seems to imply that Pinocchio’s consciousness is going to act a lot more mature this time around.

According to McGregor, Guillermo’s film – which will be made using stop-motion as opposed to traditional animation – is well underway. Telling ACE reporters he had already recorded some of his lines, it’s safe to say that production on the project is long past development. A script exists, actors have been cast and now, all we need is our first look at what will be – knowing the director – a visually captivating movie.
Do you think McGregor makes a good fit for Jiminy Cricket in this Pinocchio adaptation, though? Let us know in the comments below.
Facebook aims to improve the resources it providers American voters and will attempt to help more people register to vote ahead of the 2020 US election, according to a new op-ed by CEO Mark Zuckerberg published in USA Today on Tuesday evening.
Zuckerberg says the company set a goal of helping 4 million people register to vote, up from 2 million four years ago, through resources provided across Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger. Facebook will also introduce a new “Voting Information Center” similar in design to its COVID-19 hub, which features vetted public health information and news about the novel coronavirus and related topics.

Qualcomm is launching its next 5G chipset today, the Snapdragon 690, the first product in its 6-series chips to get support for the next-generation networking standard — although it’ll only support the slower sub-6GHz versions of 5G, not the faster mmWave standard.
The new Snapdragon 690 also promises a variety of other improvements over the previous 6-series chips. Qualcomm says it’ll offer 20 percent better CPU performance and 60 percent faster graphics rendering compared to the Snapdragon 675.
But the addition of 5G support — by way of a new Snapdragon X51 modem — is particularly important for the broader adoption of 5G, given that the company’s 6-series chips tend to show up in midrange and...

Virat Kohli has been exceptional in international cricket ever since he made his debut way back in 2008. But it is his ability to score consistently, that separates him from the world's best. Even in the T20 format, Gautam Gambhir rates his above the likes of Chris Gayle, AB De Villiers and Rohit Sharma, for his sheer consistency.

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively made a massive donation right at the start of the protests and have been recently joined by John Cena and many, many others. But Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista has gone one step further by not just donating money, but having Floyd’s now-iconic last words “I Can’t Breath” and “We the People” inked on his hands.
He shared a photo of the tattoo on Twitter and captioned it with:
“Be relentless in the pursuit of justice. Unintimidated in the fight against oppression. We’re together to remind each other what we’re fighting for. I want to forget.I won’t let myself. There’s too much at stake. Peace to everyone fighting for a dream. #OneNation #OneRace”
Bautista’s unambiguous support of BLM doesn’t come as a surprise, of course. A flick through his Twitter timeline over the last few weeks will see videos criticizing the police and retweets of progressive politicians like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Beyond that, there’s a litany of venom directed at President Donald Trump, with Bautista not mincing words when it comes to the Commander-in-Chief:
“Try picturing President Dumb-Dumb tweeting this naked (great big mushy butt and that big sloppy gut hanging over his tiny little mushroom)eating a ham&cheese sandwich(crumbs on his man boobs)trying to figure out how to spell Pocahontas Face with tears of joy. I.e. he’s pathetic,” tweeted the actor.
What a lovely image. Thanks for that.
Bautista is notoriously outspoken whenever he feels like an injustice is committed. In fact, he can get so passionate that many assumed his fierce criticism of Disney when they temporarily fired James Gunn (who clapped his new tattoo) from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would prevent him from ever working with the studio again. That obviously didn’t happen, though.
Dave Bautista will no doubt be preparing to return as Drax, but we don’t know when the next Guardians film is set to shoot. In the meantime, his latest effort, My Spy, is landing on Amazon Prime on June 26th.

After the sacking of former Cricket Australia chief executive, Kevin Roberts, there was yet another development that took place on Tuesday. Board's chairman Earl Eddingson told reporters that it would be ‘unrealistic’ to hold the T20I World Cup this year due to global pandemic.
Sushant Singh Rajput playing the character of M.S. Dhoni in his biopic is etched in every cricket lovers memory and with the actor dying by suicide at his Bandra home on Sunday, former Australia all-rounder took to Twitter to share how he was amazed by Rajputs acting in the movie.
Cricket Australia Chief Executive Kevin Roberts has resigned from his post with immediate effect and is replaced by interim CEO Nick Hockley, the governing body said on its website on Tuesday. Hockley is the Chief Executive of the ICC T20 World Cup also.Justice League has obviously been on the minds of most comic book and movie fans with the news that the Snyder Cut will be completed and released on HBO Max in 2021. Director Zack Snyder has been teasing fans with images from his vision of the film, including more of Darkseid, but he’s not the only person giving us some behind-the-scenes content.
Ray Fisher shared a photo from a scrapped scene of his character Cyborg last week and now another still from production has been released. The pic – seen below – shows Wonder Woman herself, Gal Gadot, dawning Batman’s cowl. It’s clearly a bit too large for her, but it was no doubt a funny moment that day on set.
Of course, comic book fans love it when superheroes use other superhero’s accessories. There was Spider-Man briefly holding Cap’s shield in Captain America: Civil War and who can forget Cap wielding Thor’s hammer at the end of Avengers: Endgame? Wonder Woman wearing the cowl is a bit more impractical, but seeing the iconic female superhero wearing that familiar mask is striking all the same.
The cast of Justice League is reportedly returning to record some additional dialogue for the Snyder Cut, but according to some, that will be pretty much the extent of their involvement in reshoots. Then again, we’ve heard conflicting reports on this, as other outlets have said a few of the principal actors could return to film new scenes.
Whatever ends up happening, it remains to be seen if Snyder will be able to salvage a mediocre superhero movie. It doesn’t really matter at this point because people will watch it regardless, but it’ll certainly be interesting to find out if Justice League can be vastly improved once Zack puts his finishing touches on it.
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice was originally intended as just the beginning of Zack Snyder’s major plans for the DCEU, but needless to say things didn’t go as predicted, meaning much of the set-up in BvS has left fans scratching their heads in the years since. One of the biggest mysteries doomed to be left unanswered is the case of Robin’s death, as visually revealed through the Boy Wonder’s Joker-desecrated suit being on display in the Batcave.
Back in the day, we thought this might be further explored in Ben Affleck’s The Batman, but that wasn’t meant to be. With the incoming arrival of the Snyder Cut of Justice League, though, our hopes at getting more on this mystery are renewed. Sure enough, the filmmaker has confirmed to fans on Vero that his JL will feature “a hint” at Robin’s demise. It doesn’t sound like we’ll get much on the topic, then, but at least it’ll be something.
Remember, the Robin killed by the Joker is not Jason Todd, as per the Death in the Family comic book storyline. It’s actually Dick Grayson. That’s not officially stated anywhere in the DCEU, but Snyder has confirmed that was his intention. Clearly, the dark event would have been examined at some point over Snyder’s ambitious five-film arc he had in the works. As that’s not going to happen, though, we’ll have to settle for whatever hint will be in the JL cut.
In any case, we’ll likely get a new (alive) Robin opposite Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight in Matt Reeves’ Batman movies. Maybe not in the first one, coming next year, but certainly in one of the sequels. This may lead to a Nightwing spinoff film, as was once coming from The LEGO Batman Movie’s Chris McKay.
While we wait for Robin to return to the big screen, Snyder’s Justice League hits HBO Max sometime in 2021.
Legendary Pictures has been building up to Godzilla vs. Kong for an extremely long time. This should be the Infinity War of the Monsterverse, showing the two cinematic heavyweights going to toe-to-toe, with Kong’s ferocity and agility pitted against Godzilla’s sheer power. It sounds great, so where is it? Well, if they’d stuck to the original plan, we’d have seen it in March, but then it was delayed until November for reshoots.
Then came a beast more destructive than anything in the Monsterverse and a tiny fraction of the size: COVID-19. It’s wreaked havoc on the entertainment world and is now responsible for Godzilla vs. Kong once again missing a release date. This is because Wonder Woman 1984 has been rescheduled for October, taking Godzilla vs. Kong‘s spot. That, plus The Matrix 4‘s delay means there’s a plum May 2021 release date going spare. That’s now been snaffled up by this movie, meaning another painful year of waiting for Monsterverse fans.
Director Adam Wingard is obviously aware of the frustration felt by fans, posting an apology on Instagram:
“To all Godzilla and Kong fans…I know you’re pumped to see how the battle of the century will turn out, but with all that is going on, we’re going to have to wait just a little bit longer to see who will emerge victorious. Find the BIGGEST screen possible to see Kong and Godzilla face off May 2021!”
He’s also posted a clapperboard on Twitter that shows the two titans squaring off (see below), with fans immediately poring over it for details.
While I’m a big Monsterverse fan and specifically of Adam Wingard (The Guest kicks so much ass), I am getting a bit tired of waiting for the bout of the century to begin. Let’s hope this is the absolute final time Godzilla vs. Kong gets delayed. Fingers crossed.
