Several New Villains Have Been Revealed For Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was officially announced to be on its way at SDCC over the summer. And in case the title didn’t already make it clear, Marvel revealed at the event that Tony Leung would be playing the Mandarin in the movie, with the supervillain – who’s been talked about in the MCU since the beginning but never seen – coming up against Simu Liu’s master martial artist. Some new intel, though, is pointing to several more foes appearing in the film as well.
MCU Cosmic reports that, according to casting information, Marvel is currently looking for actors to play the following villains: Steel Claw, Moving Shadow, Razor-Fist and Ghostmaker. The latter three are all characters found in the pages of Shang-Chi comics, though Ghostmaker is missing his comic counterpart’s hyphen in his name. Steel Claw, however, is not someone from the source material, though it’s possible they’re based on Gold Claw
Four secondary antagonists seems like a heck of a lot, but there’s a rumored plot leak that could explain this. Allegedly, the movie will feature Shang-Chi getting caught up in an underground fight tournament. If this is the case, then it doesn’t take much to deduce that these four will be his competitors. Does Shang-Chi enter the tournament because it’ll lead him to the Mandarin, though? If so, how does this fit with that other rumor that the leader of the Ten Rings is actually his dad?
We’ll have to wait and see, but Marvel apparently have big plans for the superhero in the MCU, with WGTC hearing he’ll be positioned as the franchise’s answer to James Bond. This presumably means we can look forward to the Agents of Atlas being introduced, the all-Asian super-spy team. So, expect major things to come for the character, and it all starts with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, hitting cinemas on February 12th, 2021.

Vision May Return In Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness
With the exception of Batman’s parents and Spider-Man’s Uncle Ben, nobody ever really stays dead in comic book movies. Paul Bettany’s Vision may have met his demise at the hands of Thanos during the climax of Avengers: Infinity War, and remained out of the picture during the events of Endgame, but the character is set to return on Disney Plus as the co-lead of WandaVision alongside Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch.
While Vision’s return is set to be explained by the entire narrative of WandaVision taking place as a result of Wanda Maximoff’s powers, the potential for multiple alternate realities could also set up the character’s return in upcoming sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
As if the title doesn’t give it away enough, the Sorcerer Supreme’s second solo adventure will feature a huge number of timelines across the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and with Scarlet Witch set to play a major role in the movie, it makes total sense for one of those multiverses to feature Vision in some form given his relationship with Wanda.
In fact, according to sources close to WGTC – the same ones who told us Wiccan will debut in WandaVision and that the Inhumans will be rebooted in Ms. Marvel, both of which have since been corroborated by several other outlets – Vision could indeed appear in the Doctor Strange sequel. Nothing is set in stone just yet, but the studio is apparently considering it and if it were to happen, it’d be in some kind of alternate reality in the mutltiverse. Which is to say he wouldn’t be coming back to life in the main timeline.
Of course, Bettany has already claimed that WandaVision is going to be completely bonkers, so there’s really no telling where the two title characters will end up by the time the limited series has wrapped up. However, they’ve become so closely linked during their tenure in the MCU that it would make total sense for Vision to appear in one of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness‘ many alternate realities, possibly even as a ploy by rumored villain Nightmare to drive Wanda insane.

Captain Marvel’s Brie Larson Shares Childhood Throwback Pic With Captain America
Brie Larson may have a lot of critics, but it now seems like she was destined to play Captain Marvel from a very early age. The Academy Award-winning actress recently shared a throwback picture on Instagram that shows her as a child hanging out with a man dressed as Captain America. Back in those days, the superhero wasn’t nearly as popular as he is now and the fact that Larson has a picture with him proves that she was always meant to take on the role of Carol Danvers and fight alongside Steve Rogers. Either that or it’s one heck of a coincidence.
It’s a shame that Chris Evans isn’t on the social media app or else he’d likely have something funny to say about the interesting piece of foreshadowing. The pic becomes even more eerie when realizing that the thirty-year-old’s character is now set to take on Captain America’s role in the MCU, as Danvers’ presence in the cinematic universe continues to grow despite the visceral reaction from many fans online.
Larson has frequently been the target of petitions to replace her in the franchise, along with being subject to disparaging fan edits and nasty YouTube comments. She claims to be unfazed by all of the criticism, but it seems like Disney might not be.

Recent reports have said that the company’s lost confidence in the actress. These rumors are bolstered by the fact that they’ve recently removed her from the marketing campaign for their upcoming streaming service, too. For now, however, Larson still has the part and will presumably be the face the MCU for the foreseeable future.
After all, she’s currently under contract to appear in at least five more Marvel movies. Captain Marvel is clearly a role that she loves to play, too, and, judging from her latest Instagram post, may’ve always been preordained to take on.

Disney Reportedly Placing Classic Fox Movies Into Its Vault
Following the Disney conglomerate’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox earlier this year, those in the film industry knew things were going to change. They most likely didn’t realize though that such a transaction would affect those who run theaters throughout the country, too. Unfortunately, however, that appears to be precisely what’s happening right now.
Ever since the purchase, cinemas throughout the United States are said to be having unexpected difficulties when it comes to screening classic Fox films. Vulture recently reported that one of their programmers attempted to acquire rights to screen Fox movies for their annual spring 24-Hour Science Fiction and Horror Marathons at the Drexel Theater. Joe Neff, director of the yearly event, wanted to screen two classic Fox pics: the original version of The Omen and the 1986 remake of The Fly.
Following Disney’s latest deal, though, his requests to screen those movies were denied. The director was offered “a very brief apology” because those in charge could no longer book “repertory titles with the theater.” Neff says he’s heard rumors about Disney making older Fox titles unavailable to for-profit theaters and these rumblings are backed up by stories of other programmers and theater managers whose existing bookings to screen Fox films have been “revoked.”
Disney has remained strategically quiet on this matter while they try to discreetly place the classic Fox flicks into their vault. It seems likely that the company is doing this because of their upcoming streaming service. Disney Plus, which is set to launch in a month from now, could potentially have all of these movies available for subscribers to watch. The goal could therefore be to limit the exposure to these films as much as possible so that audiences will be forced to pay for the platform if they want to enjoy the features.
There’s no proof that this is the case, of course, but it makes a lot of sense. For now, though, all we can do is keep asking questions and try to get to the bottom of why Disney‘s depriving theaters of these beloved classics.

John Carpenter’s Halloween Turns 41 Today
Many American holidays have their definitive films marking the occasion. For instance, John Hughes gave Thanksgiving and Christmas Planes, Trains, and Automobiles and Christmas Vacation, respectively. But best of all, at least in my opinion, is when John Carpenter gave us Halloween way back in 1978, when I was 14 years old. Specifically, Carpenter’s classic debuted on silver screens 41 years ago this very day: October 25th.
Halloween immediately left an indelible impact on popular culture. Critics lauded it with praise, as they very well should have, and audiences reacted viscerally to it; just check out this reaction track. It didn’t invent the slasher genre, but it certainly solidified it, which led to the deluge of copycats and ripoffs all throughout the 1980s. And ya know what? The franchise is still going today, even stronger than ever, some would say.
John Carpenter was originally hired when the film was still called The Babysitter Murders. Producer Irwin Yablans and financier Moustapha Akkad gave Carpenter very little to work with, outside of the fact that the film needed to take place on Halloween. What he and producer/co-writer Debra Hill, herself a wild success in Hollywood, came up with from essentially nothing but the word Halloween is simply incredible.
Michael Myers, originally called just The Shape, is the most enduring of the 80s villains and while I think Jason and/or Freddy may have been more popular in the late 80s and early 90s, neither of those two creeps can hold a candle to the original mouthbreather. Even at 61 years old (canonically), he’s a spry little mother who has no problem murdering actual mothers.
If I had to pick just one, I would have to say that Halloween is probably my favorite horror film of all time. It’s simple, efficient, and effective, and what more can you ask for from a movie?
