The ScreenPad, a smartphone-like screen that replaced the traditional trackpad, turned out to be less of a gimmick than one might have expected, and so Asus is going all in on the idea for its 2019 lineup of mainstream laptops.
Basically, the ScreenPad 2.0 works a lot more like a smartphone. Asus has revamped the interface with Android-style menu buttons and icons, and it’s easier to switch in and out of regular trackpad mode than before.
I spent a while using the ScreenPad 2.0 and found it to be mostly pretty cool. I doubt I’d use it most of the time, but there are certain use cases where I’d be glad it was there,...

Asus always likes to use its hometown trade show of Computex, which also happens to be the world’s biggest computer hardware event, to show off a wide and occasionally wild lineup of new products. And it’s really outdone itself this time — the headline announcement is one of the most decadent laptops ever created.
The ZenBook Pro Duo has not one, but two 4K screens. (At least if you’re counting horizontal pixels.) There’s a 15-inch 16:9 OLED panel where you’d normally find the display on a laptop, then a 32:9 IPS “ScreenPad Plus” screen directly above the keyboard that’s the same width and half the height. For better or worse, wireless audio is slowly becoming the norm for mobile phones and tablets. This has caused a lot of annoyance, but there are benefits, too. Some Samsung phones can already do this, and according to a rumor from Japanese blog Mac Otakara (spotted via Mac Rumors), Apple might be bringing the feature to future iPhones as well.
Being able to connect to more than one Bluetooth device can be helpful in a range of scenarios. Black Widow Star May’ve Teased A Fantastic Four Cameo In The Film
Next year, it’s expected that the long-awaited Black Widow solo movie will serve as the first entry in the MCU’s Phase 4, and while Marvel Studios is mostly keeping quiet on the project, various reports have already given us a pretty good idea of the cast we can expect.
Last month, for instance, we learned that David Harbour of Stranger Things and Hellboy fame will be making his franchise debut in Cate Shortland’s upcoming flick. So far, the actor has generally remained tight-lipped on his involvement, but in a recent panel at the MCM London Comic Con, Harbour just might have teased the identity of his character.
Though the star didn’t offer a direct confirmation, he did refer to his role as a “thing,” and offered the following, potentially loaded comment:
“I’m glad this thing is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe”.
According to Advanced Television, Harbour may have been hinting that his role will be none other than The Thing of Fantastic Four fame. And to the theory’s credit, it’s hard to imagine many fans objecting to this casting choice.
That being said, you may want to hold out for further evidence before getting your hopes up. After all, the script for Black Widow was in the works long before the Disney/Fox merger came into effect. Then again, it was reported back in February that the movie was undergoing rewrites that would delay production to June. And while the story broke over a month before Disney acquired the rights to The Thing, feel free to speculate that Marvel Studios was thinking ahead.
In any case, it’s surely only a matter of when rather than if the Fantastic Four are brought into the MCU, be it in Black Widow or their own standalone film. In the meantime, Marvel’s Phase 3 comes to a close with the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home on July 2nd.

Matt Reeves’ The Batman Is No Longer A DCEU Prequel
Ever since Ben Affleck walked away from the project, it’s been considered a fact that Matt Reeves’ The Batman would serve as a prequel to Batfleck, as the grizzled version seen in Zack Snyder’s films had a long history of protecting Gotham before he was introduced in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. This seemed to be even more assured when the much younger Robert Pattinson was plugged as the top choice to play the Dark Knight in the movie.
According to our sources, though, Warner Bros. has altered its plans somewhat and The Batman might be going in a more standalone direction than initially intended. From what we understand, the film is no longer being thought of as a prequel. Pattinson’s casting confirms it’ll still explore a younger Bruce Wayne, but any ties to the Snyder Batman will be gone.
This apparently includes his supporting cast. The likes of Alfred and Jim Gordon are set to be recast, with Jeremy Irons and J.K. Simmons not returning to their roles. This fits with a previous report as well, which claimed Reeves was thinking of Richard E. Grant for Batman’s faithful butler.
All of that said, we’ve been warned that the movie may still sow some seeds so that it could feasibly be retroactively connected to the DCEU at a later date. It’s difficult to say how that might be achieved from what little we know, but one way of doing this would be to drop a few easter eggs hinting that the likes of Wonder Woman and Aquaman are out there. But that’s just speculation on our part.
In any case, we should know more soon, as The Batman is due to go before cameras this November, in order to hit its release date of June 25th, 2021.

Alien: Covenant Sequel Reportedly In The Works With Ridley Scott Directing
It’s now been over two years since the release of Alien: Covenant, and so far, we’ve yet to receive any confirmation that another movie is particularly close to going into production. That being said, it at least sounds like a third Alien prequel is currently bubbling in development with the involvement of director Ridley Scott.
To mark the 40th anniversary of the franchise’s first installment, Variety published an article reflecting on the sci-fi classic and its genesis. After referencing Covenant and 2012’s Prometheus, the piece mentions that another prequel, which Scott will helm, is “in the script phase.”
After the mixed response received by Prometheus and Covenant – not to mention the underwhelming box office performance of the latter – there’s been a lot of uncertainty around the future of the franchise. Nonetheless, it sounds like filmgoers in the pro-prequel camp still have reason to be optimistic that Covenant’s cliffhanger ending may some day be resolved.

Indeed, in the wake of the Disney/Fox merger, the Mouse House implied at this year’s CinemaCon that Alien is one of the Fox franchises they plan to continue. Meanwhile, Scott has repeatedly made it clear that he’s put some thought into where the series can go from here. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, for instance, the director acknowledged that it’s tough to keep the saga fresh after all these years, before adding that they’re looking to “see where it can evolve.”
From the sound of things, Alien: Covenant 2 may still be a long way off from reaching theaters, assuming it ever does. All the same, it’s looking very likely that the franchise has some life in it yet, and if Scott can find a way to keep things interesting, then all the better.
