Netflix Reveals First Look At New Vampire Thriller Bone Teeth

Netflix subscribers are clearly enamored with the idea of high concept vampiric content, as evidenced by recent smash hit Blood Red Sky becoming the streamer’s most-watched German original project ever after racking up 50 million streams in four weeks, dominating the most-watched list and going down a storm with genre fans.

On the more comedic side of things, Vampires vs. the Bronx drew strong reviews when it premiered last October, although the unexpected resurgence of The Twilight Saga had a lot to do with the latent feelings of nostalgia being stirred among longtime fans of the franchise. On October 20th, the platform brings subscribers even more bloodsucking undead action when Night Teeth arrives, and you can check out the first images from the movie below.

As far as high concepts go, director Adam Randall’s upcoming effort has a doozy. Jorge Lendeborg Jr. plays a chauffeur who picks up two mysterious women, driving them all around Los Angeles as they party the night away. As you may have guessed, it turns out that the pair are vampires on the hunt for blood, and our young protagonist fights to stay alive as he’s drawn deeper into the dangerous vampire underworld hidden just behind the shadows.

It’s a neat premise, and the Night Teeth ensemble offers a solid blend of rising stars and established faces. Lendeborg Jr. will be supported by former Disney Channel star Debby Ryan, Bright‘s Lucy Fry, Game of Thrones veteran Alfie Allen, Army of the Dead‘s Raúl Castillo, Vikings‘ Alexander Ludwig, Mad Men‘s Bryan Batt, Altered Carbon‘s Marlene Forte and Megan Fox, a surprise guest who wasn’t originally announced as part of the cast.

Rachel Leigh Cook Admits Turning Down X-Men Was A Huge Mistake

The comic book genre is virtually ubiquitous at this point, making it easy to forget that Bryan Singer’s X-Men was a huge gamble when it was gearing up for release in the summer of 2000. The director was known for his low budget thrillers, the comic book adaptation had spent years trapped in development hell, and the stench of Joel Schumacher’s infamous Batman & Robin was still lurking in the background.

That’s without even mentioning the relative lack of star power and big names among the cast that could sell tickets to more skeptical audiences. Patrick Stewart was arguably the most recognizable to the general public thanks to his stint as Star Trek: The Next Generation‘s Jean-Luc Picard, but nobody had the faintest idea of who this Hugh Jackman dude was, and he was playing the movie’s most iconic character.

Rachel Leigh Cook was in the ascendancy at the turn of the millennium having broken out in She’s All That, but the actress revealed in a new interview that she’d turned down the role of Rogue before Anna Paquin was cast, and it’s something she admitted was a massive mistake.

”It was a huge misstep. As soon as I saw the posters for it, I knew that I’d made a mistake. I really thought what everyone told me was correct when they said, ‘What we need to do now is make sure you’re taken seriously’. I definitely did things for the wrong reasons.”

Rogue is effectively the film’s audience surrogate who leads those unfamiliar with the source material into the mythology, and Paquin would go on to play a substantial part in the original trilogy. Once X-Men hit big at the box office and went on to become one of the biggest and most popular brands in cinema, it must have stung Cook to see a part she was offered go on to bring so much success to somebody else.

Timotheé Chalamet Searched The Spider-Man: No Way Home Trailer For Clues

Timotheé Chalamet and Tom Holland have much more in common outside of being two 25 year-old actors widely regarded as a pair of the industry’s most talented and popular young stars, although their connections are largely rooted in circumstance above all else.

They were both on the final shortlist of six names to play the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man when Homecoming was whittling down the contenders, but it was Holland who won out in the end. However, Chalamet then got some measure of revenge when he scored the title role in Warner Bros.’ Charlie and the Chocolate Factory origin story Wonka, with Holland the studio’s other preferred candidate.

This year they’ll each be seen co-starring with Zendaya in a big budget blockbuster, but Denis Villenueve’s Dune will be out of the gate first, almost two months ahead of Spider-Man: No Way Home. In a new interview, Chalamet commented on working with the Emmy winning actress, and even admitted that he was just like the rest of us when it came to combing through the first trailer for the web-slinging epic to try and deduce any information at all.

“And as I said before, this was before I’d seen Euphoria and Malcolm & Marie. She’s doing such incredible work and is just trailblazing her own path, and she’s so, so cool. She also happens to be in the most-watched trailer of the moment, too, for Spider-Man: No Way Home. I cannot wait for that movie, and I was there, by the way, with everybody else, clicking through the trailer frame by frame looking for clues.”

He may have lost out to Tom Holland all those years ago, but it clearly hasn’t dampened Chalamet’s enthusiasm for either Spider-Man as a character, or the trio of MCU movies he came so close to becoming a part of. Of course, it’s not like the Academy Award nominated actor is struggling for work, with Dune being followed by Netflix’s star-studded comedy Don’t Look Up, while he’s currently shooting cannibalistic love story Bones & All with Call Me by Your Name director Luca Guadagnino.

Sucker Punch Stars Reunite, Jena Malone Teases A Prequel

Zack Snyder recently opined that Sucker Punch was his most misunderstood movie, with the filmmaker lamenting that his attempt to skewer the objectification of women in Hollywood blockbusters ended up with the fantasy actioner being widely criticized for doing just that, via a series of set pieces featuring young women in skimpy clothes battling all sorts of enemies in stylized and borderline fetishized fashion.

Matters weren’t helped by the fact Sucker Punch isn’t very good, holding a weak Rotten Tomatoes score of just 22%, while it flopped at the box office after failing to crack $90 million globally on an $82 million budget. The R-rated Extended Edition was better, though, but still not enough to polish this particular cinematic turd.

Depending on how you feel about the movie, it’s either been terrifying or exciting to hear Snyder and several of his Sucker Punch cast members talk up the potential of revisiting the property. As you can see below, the entire core ensemble recently reunited, and it’ll no doubt lead to the rumors gathering momentum once again.

Jena Malone, arguably the biggest proponent of bestowing the world with more Sucker Punch, took things one step further by reposting the image on her own social media accounts, accompanied by the hashtag #letsmakeaprequel. Is there a chance it could happen? Well, Warner Bros. own the rights to the property, but they’d probably be more than happy to hand it over seeing as they’re firmly out of the Zack Snyder business, so it shouldn’t be completely discounted just yet.

Netflix Just Added 35 New Movies/TV Shows

It’s the first of the month, which of course means that the Netflix content library has been bolstered by a packed slate of new additions. While originals are thin on the ground, that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty to add to your watch-list over the coming days and weeks.

The only fresh in-house exclusives are documentary Turning Point: 9/11 and the War on Terror and reality series How to Be a Cowboy, but the rest of the debutants offer a solid mix of cult favorites, established classics and the odd dud or two, including one of the most infamous box office bombs of all-time.

Harrison Ford is well represented by his second outing as Jack Ryan in Clear and Present Danger, along with Blade Runner: The Final Cut, but if you’re in the mood for comedy then the options are bountiful. The House Party trilogy, Mystery Men, The Interview and School of Rock are just a handful of the titles geared towards laughs above all else, and you can check out the full roster of incoming titles below.

If you want sweeping drama, then Once Upon a Time in America scratches that itch. Tim Burton’s Mars Attacks! has the sci-fi angle covered, Marshall is a rousing biopic featuring a fantastic Chadwick Boseman performance, Labyrinth delivers timeless fantasy, and you can even revisit Ryan Reynolds’ Green Lantern if you’re feeling brave enough. All told, it’s an excellent way to kick off September on Netflix.

2 Classic Harrison Ford Movies Just Hit Netflix

If you were asked to name a sci-fi movie and an action-packed franchise that starred Harrison Ford, then your mind would understandably wander to Star Wars and Indiana Jones first and foremost. It’s not often that an actor gets the chance to play two of cinema’s most iconic characters, but his filmography is so stacked with classics that the roguish smuggler and intrepid archeologist barely scratch the surface of a back catalogue overflowing in excellence.

Not content with appearing in three of the greatest sci-fi epics ever made via Episodes IV, V and VI, Ford also headlined a fourth all-timer in Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner. It may have disappointed at the box office, but it didn’t take long for the futuristic thriller to find itself reappraised, even if the debate rages on over which cut can be definitively deemed superior.

The Final Cut has been added to Netflix today, so you’re out of luck if you prefer the original theatrical version, the internationally-released edit, the 114-minute broadcast edition or the Director’s Cut, but at least Blade Runner could be set to find a brand new audience now that it’s available on the world’s most popular platform.

Meanwhile, the Jack Ryan franchise is still going strong, with John Krasinski the fourth actor to play the CIA operative in Amazon’s popular series, but Ford remains arguably the definitive interpretation of the Tom Clancy creation. His second outing in Clear and Present Danger has also been added to Netflix, and the 1994 political thriller retains the franchise’s record box office haul, despite two reboots starring Ben Affleck and Chris Pine arriving in the interim.

A Forgotten Hugh Jackman Movie Just Hit Netflix

Hugh Jackman has etched his name into the cinematic history books as a result of his epic seventeen-year tenure as Wolverine, but the actor’s track record of box office success is far from stellar when he’s not kitted out in Wolverine’s standard ensemble of claws, mutton chops and a white vest.

Every big-name talent stars in their fair share of flops, but the Aussie A-lister has lent his talents to more than a few. Stephen Sommers’ Van Helsing, Darren Aronofsky’s The Fountain, Aardman Animation’s Flushed Away and Joe Wright’s Pan all ended up losing a lot of money, while his most recent effort Reminiscence found a place in the history books after scoring the worst opening weekend ever for a title opening in over 3000 theaters.

One of Jackman’s most polarizing disappointments in Neill Blomkamp’s Chappie, which saw the filmmaker return to the sociopolitical thematic well for a third consecutive time, only to suffer greatly from the law of diminishing returns. A robot police officer being reprogrammed and gaining sentience is an intriguing premise in practice, but the execution was more than a little lacking.

Blomkamp even has the sneaking suspicion that Chappie‘s poor performance may have cost him his Aliens sequel with Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn, but at least the high concept sci-fi still has people talking. Whether it’s your first or fifth time watching, you can decide for yourself whether or not the film is worthy of a reappraisal now that it’s streaming on Netflix.

A Great Sylvester Stallone Movie Just Arrived On Netflix

Despite boasting a long and illustrious career that’s seen him star in a number one box office hit in every decade since the 1970s, Sylvester Stallone will be the first person to tell you that he’s been written off more than once. Like one of his most famous creations says, “It ain’t over till it’s over”, something that’s applied to Sly on numerous occasions.

His career has been full of ups and downs, which is to be expected when he first broke out in a major way with Best Picture winner Rocky 45 years ago, but as the 1980s gave way to the 90s, he was finding himself labeled a relic of a bygone age.

His fifth and supposed final outing as the Italian Stallion sent the franchise out on a bum note, while ill-judged comedies Oscar and Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot were widely panned, as hilarious as it may be that Arnold Schwarzenegger effectively tricked him into starring in the latter.

However, when Cliffhanger came along in the summer of 1993 to earn $255 million at the box office, Stallone’s detractors were forced to eat their words yet again. It’s basically Die Hard on a mountain, and even brought the John McClane sequel’s director Renny Harlin on board, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a hugely entertaining blockbuster in his own right.

Sly’s stoic mountain rescuer Gabe Walker finds himself up against John Lithgow’s deliciously hammy villain after a group of criminals lose a $100 million stash following a plane crash, and the sparks fly once a double-cross sets the plot in motion. It’s comfortably one of the leading man’s best actioners, with Cliffhanger is now streaming on Netflix to satiate those craving a slice of old school cheese with their pyrotechnics.

A Terrible Ryan Reynolds Movie Was Just Added To Netflix

What’s left to say about Green Lantern that hasn’t already been said by leading man Ryan Reynolds? Most recently, the actor described the box office dud as a crease in the anus of the universe, but it did at least lead to him meeting future wife Blake Lively, so it’s not all doom and gloom.

During the entire press circuit for Free Guy, Reynolds and Taika Waititi deliberately and hilariously went out of their way to refer to Shawn Levy’s video game-inspired blockbuster as the first time they’d ever worked together, such is Green Lantern‘s unwanted level of infamy. In fact, director Martin Campbell even answered with a resounding “over my dead body” when asked if he’d ever tackle another comic book adaptation.

Some terrible films eventually gain a new appreciation and lease of life in the eyes of fans who thought that maybe they’d been too harsh the first time around, a trend that’s recently seen Thor: The Dark World trending on social media despite a reputation as one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s weakest efforts.

However, that fate hasn’t befallen Green Lantern as of yet, because everyone seems to remain in complete agreement that it sucks. Of course, terrible reviews and an even worse reputation have never stopped movies from rebounding on Netflix to almost instantly secure a place on the Top 10 most-watched list, and now that the intergalactic wet fart of a superhero spectacular is streaming on the platform, it may yet experience a resurgence.

A Controversial Seth Rogen Movie Has Returned To Netflix

Not many movies come close to starting a full-blown international incident, never mind a studio comedy starring Seth Rogen and James Franco, but at least it’s given the otherwise forgettable The Interview a place in the history books.

Rogen and longtime creative collaborator Evan Goldberg’s second directorial effort even managed to find itself ahead of the curve by years after Sony released the film digitally when a huge number of major theater chains refused to screen it thanks to the controversy that risked the wrath of North Korea, and at one point looked like it could set international relations back decades.

The Interview had already been hit with several delays after the North Korean government threatened action were the project ever to see the light of day, leading to some substantial re-edits to try and make the finished product more palatable to the nation. Of course, that was pretty much impossible when the entire plot revolved around Franco’s Dave Skylark palling around with Randall Park’s Kim Jong-un, but at least they tried.

In the end, it was a storm in a teacup more than anything else, with The Interview ultimately yielding no sort of notable outward aggression from North Korea. It was certainly a curious moment in cinematic history, though, and as strange as it sounds to say it out loud almost seven years after the movie’s release, for a while it looked like Seth Rogen would be directly responsible for World War III.

One Of Chadwick Boseman’s Best Movies Is Now On Netflix

Chadwick Boseman may have shot to international fame and cemented his place in cinematic history by headlining the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Black Panther, a cultural and commercial milestone for representation and diversity in the blockbuster space, but before that the actor was best known for playing real-life figures.

He may have only starred in fifteen movies before his tragic passing last summer at the age of just 42, and four of them saw him suiting up in the MCU, but Boseman still left behind an incredible body of work. It was viewed as a travesty that he didn’t win the Best Actor Academy Award for an incendiary turn in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, but his friends and peers have made it clear he doesn’t need awards to bolster his legacy.

After first breaking out as Jackie Robinson in 42, Boseman gained more mainstream attention for embodying James Brown in Get on Up, with 2017’s Marshall firmly establishing him as the go-to guy for delivering showstopping work in acclaimed biopics. The story follows the early career of groundbreaking Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, and it was steeped in social and political anxieties that are just as prescient today as they were back then.

Both the biopic and the courtroom drama can be dry and exposition-heavy genres if the execution is off, but what Reginald Hudlin’s film lacks in style it more than makes up for in substance. Marshall is now streaming on Netflix, and it should play well over the coming days as fans revisit the back catalogue of a talent taken far too soon.
