Jackie Chan Trends After New Shang-Chi Clip Goes Viral

Director Destin Daniel Cretton has hardly been shy when it comes to naming the movies, stars and genres that inspired his upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Most of them are fairly obvious given that we’re talking about a fantastical marital arts actioner on an epic scale, but others come straight out of left field.

Good Will Hunting was most certainly a surprising title for the filmmaker to namedrop, whereas most folks would have expected him to list Kung Fu Hustle, Ip Man, Tai-Chi Master, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and in Cretton’s words, “every Jackie Chan move ever made”.

The latest clip from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings features Simu Liu’s title hero fighting some bad guys on a moving bus, where he manages to use his jacket as a weapon to slow down his attackers, overpower them and then throw his coat back on without a care in the world. As you can see from the reactions below, it’s little wonder that Chan found himself trending, when it’s very reminiscent of his signature blend of martial arts and physical comedy.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings may be tracking for a franchise-low opening at the box office, but the early reactions have been overwhelmingly positive, so hopefully the focus is more on quality than commercial performance when it comes to determining whether or not it deserves a sequel, because it would be fair to say that almost every project should get a pass during the pandemic era if it’s a great film in its own right.

Dune Director Already Teasing Plans For An Entire Trilogy

For a somewhat risky project that isn’t guaranteed a sequel by any means, Denis Villenueve’s Dune has been generating plenty of sequel chatter. The director may have blasted Warner Bros. for killing the franchise before it had even started when the studio announced the sci-fi epic for a day-and-date HBO Max debut, but as we draw closer to release the filmmaker has sounded increasingly optimistic about a second installment.

Admittedly, the Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 architect concedes that Dune has to make decent money at the box office before the money men will even consider handing him another budget in the region of the first installment’s $165 million, even if he already knows that Zendaya’s Chani will be taking center stage next time out.

Villenueve also compared the idea of watching Dune at home to riding a speedboat in the bathtub, so what we really need is for the reviews to match the promise of the trailers and ensure that one way or another, the sprawling cosmic saga finds the biggest possible audience.

Not to be deterred, in a new interview Villenueve revealed that he’s already toying with the idea of adapting Frank Herbert’s sequel novel into a standalone blockbuster, turning Dune into a trilogy of epic proportions.

“There is Dune’s second book, The Messiah of Dune, which could make an extraordinary film. I always saw that there could be a trilogy; after that, we’ll see. It’s years of work; I can’t think of going further than that.”

One crew member described the project as having the potential to be this generation’s The Lord of the Rings, and while those are lofty aspirations, if Dune even comes anywhere close to finding the same levels of success as Peter Jackson’s The Fellowship of the Ring did 20 years ago, then we might just get another two movies out of the deal.

Watch: Black Panther 2 Set Video Reveals Nighttime Vehicle Chase

Any major production that decides to shoot on location is always going to find itself swarmed by eager crowds with their cellphones in the air, regardless of what security measures are put in place to stop grainy images and blurry videos being uploaded onto the internet for all to see.

As one of the most hotly-anticipated sequels in recent memory, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is going to find itself under intense scrutiny and even more pressure to deliver a second chapter that honors the legacy left behind by Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa, while still telling a standalone story that acts as a worthy successor to the Best Picture-nominated original in its own right.

It’s a tough balancing act for director Ryan Coogler to pull off, and the recent reveal that Dominique Thorne’s Riri Williams would debut in Wakanda Forever ahead of her solo series on Disney Plus is the biggest info dump we’ve heard from the project since it first started filming at the end of June.

However, we’ve seen more than a few snaps make their way online, and a new set video has captured what looks to be a nighttime vehicle chase featuring a flashy car and a motorcycle, which you can check out below.

Black Panther‘s fast-paced sprint through the streets of Seoul was one of the first film’s standout set pieces, so you can bet Coogler and his team are upping the ante significantly if they’re returning to a similar well to give audiences more vehicular mayhem in Wakanda Forever.

Kevin Feige Teases How Fantastic Four Reboot Will Choose Its Cast

Any time Kevin Feige hits the press circuit for whatever the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe project may be, he’s inevitably going to be asked a ton of questions about what comes next. After all, he’s the architect of the most successful franchise in history, so he’s always several steps ahead of his audience at every turn.

Very rarely does the company’s Chief Creative Officer come right out and deny anything or offer vague answers, because he always wants the fans to be invested from the ground floor. It was right before the release of Black Widow that he teased Fantastic Four casting news might not be as far away as we think, and he’s now hinted that the ensemble could be comprised of established stars and relative unknowns.

“I think the MCU is a beautiful combination of both. I think you look no further than Simu in Shang-Chi, like Chris Hemsworth, like Tom Hiddleston, like Tom Holland, an actor that hadn’t been seen by a tremendous amount of people before, or you have a Benedict stepping into Doctor Strange or Christian Bale stepping into Gorr in our Thor film. It is always a beautiful combination of both, and it really is about the search for the best actor for the job whether that actor is known to the world yet or not.”

The MCU is known to recruit big names for major roles, but it’s also famed as a star-making factory that sent the careers of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Pratt, Tom Hiddleston and many more to a whole new level. Balancing the two could be key for Fantastic Four, especially when a lot of casual viewers might only know the characters from Tim Story’s middling 2000s duo and Josh Trank’s disastrous 2015 effort.

Fantastic Four is a big deal solely for the fact Marvel Studios are behind the wheel this time, and in 99% of cases the MCU has been impeccable when it comes to casting. No matter who it is, Feige’s track record for handpicking headliners is already enough reason to believe that whoever winds up as Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm are going to knock it out of the park.
