Avengers: Endgame Fans Spot New Back To The Future Easter Egg

The Back to the Future films come up more than once in the dialogue of Avengers: Endgame, mostly as an example of the kind of time travel logic that Anthony and Joe Russo’s movie seeks to avoid.

The first references come in the scene where Scott Lang approaches Tony Stark with his initial idea for a “Time Heist.” The two “rules of time travel” listed by Ant-Man – no talking to your past self, and no betting on sporting events – seem directly inspired by 1989’s Back to the Future Part II, before Iron Man mentions the franchise by name when he asks:

“Are you seriously telling me that your plan to save the universe is based on Back to the Future?”

The reference comes back a little later when Scott hears how time travel actually works in the MCU, and realizes that the Robert Zemeckis sci-fi movies are “a bunch of bullshit.” But if a new video shared by Reddit user Malechite (check it out via the link below) is anything to go by, then Endgame also features a subtler nod to the second Back to the Future much later in the film.

The opening third of Back to the Future Part II sees Marty McFly journey to the then-futuristic year of 2015, where he sees a cinema advertising a screening of Jaws 19 on “HOLOMAX.” Towering above the movie theater is a cartoonish hologram of the infamous shark himself, who bends down to take a bite out of Marty before disintegrating into nothing.

Now, jumping ahead to the climax of Endgame, there’s a moment after Tony Stark snaps his fingers where we see a rather shark-like Chitauri Leviathan swooping down towards Rocket. But just when it looks like the creature has Rocket in its mouth, it suddenly turns to dust.

Given the film’s more obvious references to Back to the Future, it’s easy to believe that the callback was intentional, suggesting that while Avengers: Endgame may reject the time travel logic of the movies, it still takes some inspiration from Doc and McFly’s adventures.

Zac Efron Hospitalized With Deadly Infection, Said To Be Stable Now

It’s being reported today that Zac Efron received quite a scare recently as the actor was rushed to a hospital with a deadly, life-threatening infection earlier this week.

From what we understand, the Baywatch star contacted “a form of typhoid or similar bacterial infection” while in Papua New Guinea, where he’s currently shooting his new series Killing Zac Efron, which sees him venturing “deep into the jungles of a remote, dangerous island to carve his own name in expedition history.” During filming, he became quite sick and had to be airlifted to Brisbane then rushed to St. Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital in Spring Hill, a suburb close by.

If not treated properly, typhoid can indeed be life-threatening and is certainly something that needs to be addressed immediately. Thankfully for Efron, doctors were able to give him the proper medical attention and he’s apparently now back home in Los Angeles and continuing to recover.

As for production on Killing Zac Efron, there’s been no official statement issued on it just yet, but speaking about the series a while back, the actor expressed his excitement for it, saying:

“I tend to thrive under extreme circumstances and seek out opportunities that challenge me on every level. I am excited to explore any uncharted territory and discover what unexpected adventure awaits.”

Zac Efron has yet to comment on his hospitalization but again, reports say he’s now in stable condition and on the mend, with the star expected to make a full recovery. And while we wait to hear more or receive some kind of official update from his team, we wish him all the best and look forward to seeing him back on his feet again.

Marvel Fans Calling For Captain Marvel/War Machine Romance In MCU

A recent Twitter exchange between War Machine actor Don Cheadle and Captain Marvel herself, Brie Larson, has got fans calling for a romance to materialize between the two heroes in the MCU.

It all began when Cheadle tweeted a photo of himself and Larson a few days ago, with the two of them seen in almost identical poses. In the caption, he questioned his Avengers: Endgame co-star, asking her:

“@brielarson why you be copying …?”

Shortly after that, Larson came back with her reply, saying:

“That’s easy – I wanna be more like you!”

It was a brief and seemingly innocent exchange, but it’s now really lit a fire under the fandom, with tons of people taking to Twitter demanding to see Carol Danvers and James Rhodes as a couple in the movies. In fact, below you can find just a small sample of what folks are saying on social media:

Brie-Larson-as-Carol-Danvers-in-Captain-Marvel

So, could this ever happen? We think not. After all, it’s long been suspected that Carol will eventually come out as gay, with sources close to WGTC telling us on several occasions that this seems to be the plan and where the character is headed. It’ll likely be revealed in Captain Marvel 2, as well. Unless the studio decides to drastically change course, then, it seems these fans will be left disappointed.

But tell us, what do you think of a potential romance between Carol Danvers and James Rhodes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Is it something you’d be into seeing? Or are you happy that Marvel is planning to have Brie Larson’s heroine become one of the franchise’s LGBT characters? As always, you can sound off down below with your thoughts.
