Keanu Reeves’ Crazy Schedule May End Up Delaying John Wick: Chapter Four

As one of the most popular stars in the movie business, one that’s enjoying a huge career renaissance after a recent string of critical and commercial hits, Keanu Reeves is arguably more in demand now than at any other point in his decades-long Hollywood career.

In 2019 alone, the 55 year-old has starred in the hugely successful third installment in the John Wick franchise, voiced a character in Pixar’s billion-dollar smash Toy Story 4, sent himself up twice thanks to cameo appearances in Netflix comedies Always Be My Maybe and Between Two Ferns: The Movie, and even popped up in the trailer for the next Spongebob Squarepants movie.

Next up on the slate for the actor is long-awaited sequel Bill & Ted Face the Music, which sees him returning as Theodore ‘Ted’ Logan for the first time since 1991’s Bogus Journey. After that, Reeves will move on to another belated sequel as the fourth entry in The Matrix franchise gears up for pre-production.

If you’re wondering where that leaves John Wick, which has Chapter Four set for May 2021, then Lance Reddick, who co-stars in the action franchise as the Continental’s concierge Charon, may have some bad news. The actor admits that there isn’t even a script for the movie yet despite being just eighteen months away from release, which may end up with Keanu Reeves opting to shoot The Matrix 4 first depending on which project comes together quickest.

“Last I heard, there wasn’t a script yet but that was a month ago. I know they’re working on it but part of the problem in terms of scheduling now is that Keanu signed on to do The Matrix 4 and he has the new Bill & Ted coming up. He has three franchises he’s juggling, so I’m just not sure if he’s going to do The Matrix or John Wick next.”

Bill & Ted Face the Music is set for next August, just nine months before John Wick: Chapter Four hits theaters. If Reeves is set to hit the promotional trail for the former, then it seems more likely that he’d be able to fit the latter into his schedule a lot easier than the complex and effects-heavy Matrix 4. More Keanu Reeves is never a bad thing, though, and seeing the veteran action star hit a new lease of life on the big screen will no doubt keep the fans churning out memes for years to come.

Insiders Say Original Sonic The Hedgehog Design Made The Movie Look Like A Horror Show

We recently spoke to a few people who were lucky enough to see early test screenings of Sonic the Hedgehog and let’s just say that it’s a good thing Paramount took five months to redesign the titular character. Apparently, the original design made the film “look like a horror show” and every moment the supposedly lovable hedgehog was on screen it “made people in the theater feel uneasy.”

It’s safe to say that that’s probably not the reaction the studio was hoping for and thankfully, they revamped the design once they heard how much everyone hated Sonic’s new look. It took almost half a year, but it definitely appears to have been worth it, as the new trailer featuring the updated protagonist is getting much better reviews and it now seems that Paramount’s saved the potential blockbuster from bombing at the box office by spending a little money to fix the glaring issue.

From what we’ve heard, executives at the studio had a feeling that diehard fans would react poorly to the character’s new look, but figured that they could ride out the initial backlash and still make a lot of money from the more general audiences. Clearly, they had no idea that there would be such a strong pushback from literally everyone.

Thankfully, they responded swiftly to all of the criticism and gave the speedster a much-needed makeover. While some of us may always have nightmares of the hideous version of Sonic we saw online that day, we’ll hopefully never have to sit through an entire film with that monster in our face.

Maybe one day Paramount can release the original version in October to give us all a good Halloween scare. Until then, though, we’re happy to pretend that first trailer never happened and move on with our sanity still in tact.

Sonic the Hedgehog is expected to race into theaters on February 14th, 2020.

Star Wars Prototype Stormtrooper Helmet May Sell At Auction For $70K

Rare film memorabilia and props have long been prized at auction by collectors, with Star Wars the franchise that reliably fetches the highest prices. With the release of The Rise of Skywalker just around the corner, Sothebys are holding a Star Wars online auction today, selling a selection of interesting art and objects from the Original Trilogy.

There are many lots up for sale, including concept art for A New Hope posters, signed concert posters, posters from The Empire Strikes Back charity premiere and a rare complete Millennium Falcon toy. But the two lots that are really turning heads are two… well, heads.

The first is a promotional C-3PO head created by ILM around the time of Return of the Jedi. While it wasn’t used in the making of the film, it appears to be of the same quality as the on-screen costume, and is expected to fetch between $20,000 and $32,000.

Even rarer than that is the one-of-a-kind Stormtrooper prototype helmet. This was created as part of the pre-production process for A New Hope in January 1976. The product, which looks very similar to the final version, is based on Ralph McQuarrie’s art and was created with input from George Lucas. That’s expected to fetch somewhere between $35,000 – $70,000.

But those prices are a drop in the ocean for what the very rarest Star Wars stuff can go for. For example, the blaster prop used by Harrison Ford in Return of the Jedi sold for $550,000 in 2018. A complete R2-D2 from A New Hope, meanwhile, went for $2.76 million in 2017. And just this year, there was a lot of buzz about a full Darth Vader costume from The Empire Strikes Back, which was expected to be a record-breaking sale for the franchise before it was mysteriously withdrawn from auction.

In short, if you want to own a piece of Star Wars history, you’d better have deep pockets!

Doctor Sleep Director Pitched A Halloween Movie With Female Loomis

Horror’s having a bit of a heyday these days. I mean, that spooky IT flick made big bucks at the box office and the recent Halloween sequel/continuity eraser also cleaned up on the silver screen. While David Gordon Green wound up making the version we got, we could’ve almost had Mike Flanagan, of the recent Doctor Sleep, behind the camera, and he had one very interesting idea for the film.

During a recent sit down with Bloody Disgusting, the director revealed that he was approached by Blumhouse after they acquired the rights to the spooky series. Per Flanagan himself, the process didn’t go too great, though, with the director saying the following about it:

“I’m … so glad it did not come to me because the only note that I had scribbled over three days of brainstorming was ‘Dr. Loomis a woman?’ That’s as far as I got on Halloween. They made the right call in not trusting the franchise to me.”

While he knocked it out of the park with Hush and The Haunting of Hill House, maybe his version of Halloween wouldn’t have been better than what we got. Who knows? I mean, I actually really don’t care much for the David Gordon Green flick, as I’ve said before. However, if Flanagan couldn’t come up with anything good, then maybe it was for the best that he didn’t direct, right?

I am curious, though. Would this have been a female Loomis, like, a female version of Dr. Loomis himself? Or some sort of relative? That remains unclear. But hey, Flanagan didn’t know, either. So don’t feel too bad if you have no idea, because I don’t. Ah, well. Hopefully Halloween Kills will be better than Halloween.
