Kevin Feige Doesn’t Think There’s Any Star Wars Fatigue

Kevin Feige, the mastermind behind Marvel Studios and the man who turned the MCU into a multibillion-dollar powerhouse, has expressed his opinion about the so-called Star Wars fatigue in a new interview.

Ever since Disney acquired the rights to a galaxy far far away in 2012, the juggernaut has been under constant fire from the dedicated and sometimes toxic fanbase. And while The Force Awakens, Rogue One, and The Last Jedi have been hugely successful in their own right, there are some who believe the space opera isn’t graced with the same capacity as the MCU movies. Even Bob Iger is of the opinion that with Star Wars, less is always more.

But Kevin Feige apparently doesn’t share that sentiment. The man who is responsible for building the 23-film Infinity Saga was recently asked about the so-called Star Wars fatigue and he responded by bringing the box office performance of the Sequel Trilogy and the spinoffs to attention.

“Well they’ve made about five movies in about five years and it’s made over five billion dollars, so I think they’re doing just fine with Star Wars. And Rise of Skywalker looks incredible to me. I love that world and I love the notion of exploring new people and new places in that universe. But that’s sort of all that can be said for now.”

As Darth Vader would put it, Feige is right from a certain point of view. With only four movies, Disney has managed to gross over $5 billion in box office alone, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the final film in the saga set for release on December 20th, is expected to perform well in theaters.

Regardless, the man has a solid track record for success when it comes to matters like this, so we can take his word when he says there’s hope yet for a galaxy far far away. I guess we’ll find out for sure though in just over a month, when J.J. Abrams’ aforementioned trilogy-closer touches down in cinemas around the world and brings the Skywalker saga to a close.

Stephen King Responds To Doctor Sleep Bombing At Box Office

“I’ll huff, and I’ll puff, and I’ll blow the box office down,” yells the ghost of Jack Torrence in Doctor Sleep, the sequel to everyone’s favorite haunted hotel romp, The Shining. I’m actually guessing on that, as I didn’t see it. And ya know what? Not many people did overall.

Mike Flanagan’s adaptation of Stephen King’s not-awaited sequel didn’t exactly blow the lid off the box office, only earning a paltry $14 million and falling behind Midway for the top spot. Now, King has spoken out in light of the dull reception.

On Twitter, there was a chain started after a Variety article claimed that the recent run of good Stephen King adaptations stopped with Doctor Sleep. Many jumped to the film’s defense, including the author himself:

I mostly write books and hope for the best. Box office numbers aside, Mike Flanagan’s film is excellent. If people choose not to go, that is their choice, but when something is good, I cheer for it. https://t.co/i3dCnF8dhA

The reviews for Doctor Sleep are mixed, with the film sitting at a 60 on Metacritic. Our own Matt Donato didn’t enjoy it that much, either. The general consensus seems to be that it’s too much of a shallow Kubrick imitation to really stand on its own, along with being an utterly unnecessary sequel of a property that many folks wish would have been left alone. I mean, there’s already two adaptations of the original out there anyway.

Also, I kinda think It: Chapter 2 may or may not have ended the “good” King adaptation streak this summer. For what it’s worth, turning one of his novels into a movie is a hit-or-miss venture, almost (almost) regardless of the cast and crew at hand. Good people have made bad movies, and bad people have made good movies. Flanagan is obviously a more-than-competent filmmaker, but his over reliance on the past may be his downfall, almost like a King protagonist proper.

In any case, Doctor Sleep, much like the boiler in the original The Shining novel and King’s preferred miniseries, bombed, destroying the future of the Overlook Hotel. Maybe it’s for the best, though. King himself even once wrote, in a different book: “Sometimes, dead is better.”

Friday The 13th’s Kane Hodder To Appear As Uber Jason At Monster-Mania 2020

While the legal battles over the Friday the 13th franchise don’t look to be resolved anytime soon, fans of the horror series can still get their Jason fixes in other ways. We’ve recently seen news about a Friday the 13th beer made from the actual Camp Crystal Lake, while the appetite for the original movies has seen multiple marathons on AMC. Fans have also had the chance to catch up with Jason actor Kane Hodder at different convention photo ops, and next year they’ll be able to meet Uber Jason from Jason X at Monster-Mania 2020 in New Jersey.

Hodder will wear the metallic costume for meet and greets with fans at the 2020 event, meaning that folks can have their photo taken, get autographs and meet with the actor. This opportunity comes after Hodder appeared in his regular Jason X costume at this year’s Monster-Mania convention alongside Robert Englund’s Freddy Krueger.

Other guests at next year’s Monster-Mania, meanwhile, include Danny Trejo, Jackie Earle Haley, Brad and Fiona Dourif, Alex Vincent, Sean S. Cunningham and many more.

For those not in the know, Uber Jason is the result of a futuristic space station’s medical facility accidentally rebuilding Jason Voorhees as a cyborg. More powerful than ever before, this version of the killer proves to be almost unstoppable, but is seemingly destroyed by being blasted into a planet’s atmosphere. Although not strictly canon, various tie-in novels and comics have also used the cybernetic Jason as the chief villain, including a battle against the original knife-wielding character.

From the line-up so far, Monster-Mania looks to have brought together a great collection of horror talent for fans of Friday the 13th, Child’s Play, A Nightmare on Elm Street and other movie series. And anyone wanting a photo with Hodder’s Uber Jason can do so at the March 14th, 2020 event in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

First Look At Avengers: Endgame Deleted Scene Of Tony In The Afterlife

At 181 minutes long, you wouldn’t think that Avengers: Endgame, Marvel’s epic conclusion to Phase Three of the MCU, had any deleted scenes. But pretty much every film does and now, another one from Endgame has been revealed, and it only makes the pic’s most tragic death even harder to swallow.

If you’ll recall, 13 Reasons Why star Katherine Langford was cast in a mysterious role in Endgame last year, though she was nowhere to be seen in the final cut of the movie. A lot of people thought she could’ve been playing Kate Bishop, but the Russo Brothers have since put paid to that idea, explaining earlier this year that she was actually cast as an older version of Morgan, Tony’s daughter, in a deleted scene that saw Stark visit the afterlife.

Here’s what the directors had to share about it:

“There was an idea that we had that Tony was going to go into the metaphysical way station that Thanos goes in when he snapped his fingers. And that there was going to be a future version of his daughter in that way station,” stated Joe Russo. “The intention was that his future daughter–because these films are dealing with magic–forgave him and sort of gave him peace to go. And the idea felt resonant. But it was just too many ideas in an overly complicated movie.”

Fair enough, and while this scene hasn’t surfaced online yet and was absent from the Blu-ray release, a few screenshots of it have now made their way onto the web, and you can see them for yourself down in the gallery below.

These come from Disney Plus of all places, which apparently features the scene in full. And given that the streaming service launches tomorrow, it’s only a matter of hours now before we get to watch it for ourselves.

Whether it’ll add much to the overall narrative will likely depend on personal preference, but regardless, it’ll be nice to see some new Avengers: Endgame footage. Especially if it gives us more of Robert Downey Jr. in his career-defining role. And who knows? There may even be some additional deleted scenes from the film hidden on Disney Plus that folks have yet to discover.

Captain Marvel 2 May Feature The Super-Skrulls

Captain Marvel introduced the Skrulls into the MCU for the first time and even seasoned fans were shocked when the movie’s major twist revealed the shapeshifting aliens were not the warmongering villains they are in the comics. Instead, the race were depicted as sympathetic refugees persecuted by the Kree. The Skrulls, particularly Ben Mendelsohn’s Talon, quickly became popular with fans, so it’s not surprising that we’re now hearing Captain Marvel 2 will further explore the species.

According to our sources – the same ones who told us the Inhumans are being rebooted and that General Ross will return in She-Hulk, both of which we now know to be true – the upcoming sequel may feature the Super-Skrulls. Apparently, Marvel’s thinking of using the breed of enhanced Skrulls for the movie and while we don’t know anything more in regards to their plans as of yet, this does potentially help us deduce which direction Brie Larson’s second solo outing as Carol Danvers could go in.

Who or what are the Super-Skrulls, though? Well, traditionally, there’s only been one. Selected as the sort of Captain America of the Skrulls, Kl’rt was augmented with an energy beam that gave him an amalgamation of the Fantastic Four’s powers. Over the years, more Super-Skrulls have been introduced who have copies of other heroes’ powers. These include Criti Noll (Ant-Man’s powers), X’iv (Daredevil, Cloak and Dagger’s powers) and Khn’nr (Captain Marvel’s powers).

There are two ways of tackling the Super-Skrulls in the MCU. Either make them heroic, with them perhaps having been given their powers by Nick Fury, as part of his Skrull operation teased in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Or, they could be rogue evil Skrulls that Carol has to battle. One rumor has pointed to the Skrull queen Veranke (also a Super-Skrull) from serving as CM2‘s main villain,

At this stage, though, we can only speculate, and seeing as Captain Marvel 2 has yet to be given a release date – even Larson herself has no idea when it’s happening – it may be a while before we learn anything concrete about this.
