First Look At Emperor Palpatine In Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Leaks Online

“Long have I waited…”

Like it or not, the upcoming release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will bring with it the long-rumored and highly anticipated return of Emperor Palpatine, the undisputed supervillain of Lucasfilm’s prized sci-fi saga.

He’s the master puppeteer who bent Anakin Skywalker (read: Darth Vader) to his will, until his plans backfired and Palpatine was sent spiraling into the depths of Death Star 2.0. But somehow, Ian McDiarmid’s fan favorite villain survived and is now getting ready to stage his second coming.

The details surrounding his return are still unclear, but make no mistake about it, he’ll be back in full force and today, we have our first proper look at him in The Rise of Skywalker. While the recent trailer gave us a brief glimpse of him from the side/behind, a leaked photo has surfaced this week which reveals the Emperor from the front, using his Force Lightning and looking pretty formidable.

Of course, a lot of people will say this is fake – and that’s perfectly understandable – but the reliable Jason Ward of Making Star Wars has already confirmed its authenticity over on Twitter. And that, coupled with the fact that Disney has already removed numerous posts across various social media sites containing the photos, leaves little doubt in our minds that this is indeed our first genuine look at Emperor Palpatine in the film, and it’s sure to get people talking.

Unfortunately, we’ll probably have to wait until Episode IX arrives in theaters to see more of the iconic villain, but thankfully, there’s not long to go now, as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker blasts into cinemas on December 20th. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we’re going to rewatch Monday night’s trailer one more time…if only just to hear that incredible score by John Williams.

Chromebooks are able to run Android apps, but mostly just ones from the Google Play Store — if you wanted to install something that’s not officially sanctioned, you’d generally need to flip your device into a far less secure Developer Mode and/or beam it over from a tethered phone. That won’t be the case with Chrome OS 80, though — that release will add a native sideloading option for Android app APKs, according to Google.

Microsoft said the Surface Laptop 3 would be easy to open — and it actually is

Earlier this month, Surface boss Panos Panay showed how you’d be able to get into the Surface Laptop 3 just by lifting off the top plate — and it turns out, it’s pretty much as easy as Panay made it seem, according to iFixit’s Surface Laptop 3 teardown.

Previous Surface Laptops weren’t easy to open up at all. You had to forcibly pry off the keyboard and top cover assembly to get to the internals — iFixit used a knife on the Surface Laptop — and when you finally got to those internals, it turned out that none of them were user-replaceable. They were so hard to work with that iFixit gave both the Surface Laptop and Surface Laptop 2 repairability scores of zero out of 10.

Rian Johnson Confirms That His Star Wars Trilogy’s Still Going Ahead

Fans of The Last Jedi rejoice, for Rian Johnson has today confirmed that his planned Star Wars trilogy is very much going to happen. The project was originally announced in the run-up to TLJ‘s release, when Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm were so convinced that Johnson had struck gold that they gave him the keys to the kingdom.

Then, the film came out and was met by a fan reception that was…uh, let’s go with mixed. Many (myself among them) thought it was brilliant and a necessary course correction after the shallow nostalgia-fest of The Force Awakens. Others, though, argued that there were too many women in space, that they ruined Luke, that the space physics didn’t stand up etc. etc. etc.

So two weeks ago, when Johnson hinted that his trilogy might be cancelled, many fans breathed a sigh of relief. He’d said in an interview:

“Well, we’ll see. I’m still talking to Lucasfilm, they’re figuring out what they’re doing and we’ll see what happens. But I’d be thrilled if it happens, and I’m working on my own stuff too.”

That “if” sounded like a big downgrade for the project, with many assuming Johnson’s trilogy had been cancelled to make way for Game of Thrones’ David Benioff and D.B. Weiss’ own trilogy. On top of that, there are the persistent rumors that Disney wants to get a Knights of the Old Republic trilogy into production. That would be three trilogies, so surely something has to give, right?

But it’s looking like it won’t be Johnson. Entertainment Tonight asked him about the statement and he confirmed he misspoke, saying:

“Did I say ‘if’? Oh god. I have no update at all. But I’m still working with Lucasfilm on it, and they’re figuring out when they do what and everything.”

That said, while it may still be happening, it certainly doesn’t sound like it’s full steam ahead. I guess we’re going to have to wait and see.

One thing we don’t have wait much longer for though is the finale of the Skywalker saga: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which hits theaters on December 20th.
