New Detective Pikachu Poster Secretly Reveals First Look At Mewtwo

Detective Pikachu is slowly building up hype as its release gets ever closer. Once a bit of an eyebrow-raiser due to casting Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu and having a faintly surreal sounding plot, the film has tested so well that Legendary’s already developing spinoffs in this new cinematic universe. Hardcore fans have also been kept happy through a very smart marketing campaign that has gradually revealed the movie’s takes on their favorite Pokémon.

Now, tucked away in a corner of a new poster, the film has quietly and subtly revealed one of the most notorious Pokémon of all: Mewtwo. Perhaps the only truly ‘evil’ Pokémon in the original 151, Mewtwo’s a cloned Pokémon with powerful psychic abilities that many had already theorized would be the villain of the movie. Trying to find him can be a bit of a Where’s Waldo? exercise, but if you train your eyes to the left of the photo he’s standing on top of a skyscraper underneath a large crane.

He’s so small it’s difficult to tell exactly what the film’s version of him will look like, but the basic shape indicates that there’s not going to be a huge departure from the character we’ve seen in the Pokémon games, movies and guest starring in Smash Bros. Also tucked away in the poster for keen-eyed fans are looks at Detective Pikachu‘s take on Snorlax, Loudred, Aipom and Treecko (and we also see Jigglypuff, Bulbasaur and Psyduck hanging out in the apartment below). Can you spot any others that we missed?

It’s shaping up to be the biggest year for the franchise yet, and tomorrow it’s looking like we might see Nintendo officially announce the Gen. 8 fully fledged Pokémon RPG for Switch. First Look At Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Costumes Coming Tonight

Everything we’re hearing about Disney’s upcoming Star Wars theme park sounds awesome. Galaxy’s Edge was announced with the intention of immersing guests in a galaxy far, far away, and since then, we’ve learned that you’ll have the opportunity to pilot the Millennium Falcon, drink blue milk at a Cantina Bar, infiltrate a First Order base and interact with all manner of Star Wars characters.

Now, it seems that later today we’ll get the opportunity to see what some of these characters look like, with the official Twitter account teasing a reveal tonight at 10pm PT:

This reveal should certainly help to clear up some confusions about what cast members will be like in the park. Since Disney’s acquisition of the franchise, guests have been able to meet Darth Maul, Darth Vader, Chewbacca, Captain Phasma, Kylo Ren, Rey and various Stormtroopers in the park. Exciting as that sounds (who wouldn’t want a selfie with Vader?), it seems likely that most of the iconic characters from the Original Trilogy and prequels might not appear in Galaxy’s Edge.

That’s a result of the park being designed with immersion in mind. Taking the form of the planet Batuu, it’ll be chronologically set during the Sequel Trilogy. This would mean that by the time the story in the park takes place, Darth Vader will be dead and other heroes like Luke and Leia might be their older Sequel Trilogy versions. Now, there’s a decent chance that the clamor to see the iconic characters will be so great that Disney will fudge the timeline or claim that these are in-universe impersonators, but we should get a better idea of how it’ll all work later tonight.

We’ll also see the costumes for the typical Batuu residents (those working in bars and gift shops), which will clue us in to a little more knowledge about the planet itself, which is said to be a lawless town right on the edge of the Outer Rim territories.

Slack has decided to somehow make its icon even duller and less notable

When massively popular workplace messaging app Slack first revealed that it would be trading in its wonderfully unique hashtag logo for a squirting pinwheel, I found a silver lining anyhow. “At least it’s got that nice purple background,” I thought to myself, the first time I saw the new icon pop up on my Android phone.

The US Federal Trade Commission has successfully brought the first ever case against using fraudulent, paid Amazon reviews to falsely advertise an online product, the agency announced Tuesday evening. The company in question, named Cure Encapsulations, Inc. and owned by Naftula Jacobowitz, paid a third-party website to write five-star Amazon reviews for a weight-loss supplement called garcinia cambogia. The plant, native to Indonesia, is widely mischaracterized as contributing to weight loss, but is in fact known to cause acute liver failure.

Faraday Future says hundreds of furloughed employees won’t return to work next week

EV startup Faraday Future has told employees on “furlough,” or unpaid leave, that it can no longer bring them back to work on March 1st as planned, according to an internal email sent Tuesday and obtained by The Verge. Facebook began expanding access to its Patreon competitor last night, giving more page owners the ability to start offering content to their subscribers for a monthly fee. The film-rating aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes has announced it will no longer allow users to comment on or register early anticipation for movies, following a series of coordinated attempts to sabotage the ratings on a few select upcoming films.

The most recent attack was on Captain Marvel, which received a wave of negative early ratings from people complaining about the “social-justice warrior politics” of star Brie Larson. The backlash largely stems from an interview where Larson said she was tired of being interviewed by “overwhelmingly white male” journalists and that she wanted to see more opportunities for diverse voices in the field.

Swatch just sued Samsung over these cloned watchfaces

Days after Samsung revealed its new Galaxy Watch Active, the company’s third-party developers now appear to have copied their downloadable smartwatch faces from Swiss watchmaker Swatch.
