Every Movie That Could Have A Trailer Aired During The Super Bowl

From Marvel to Star Wars, there are currently quite a few fanbases across the internet that have been speculating recently on when the next trailer from their franchise of choice is most likely to drop, and a lot of hopes are being pinned right now on Super Bowl LIII, which airs on February 3rd. The big game has long served as an appropriately high profile event to share footage from some of the year’s most anticipated films, and in a new piece from ComicBook.com, a breakdown is offered of the movies that could be getting some promotion in a couple of Sundays from now.

First off, there’s already been a fair amount of speculation that a trailer or TV spot for Avengers: Endgame might drop on the 3rd, though an alternative prediction is that the Oscars on February 24th could be the time for a preview. And speaking of upcoming superhero movies, there’s also a chance that Captain Marvel, Shazam! or Spider-Man: Far From Home might get some ad space, though the latter two don’t look quite so likely as Carol Danvers’ MCU debut.

Meanwhile, there’ve also been some rumors that a short Star Wars: Episode IX teaser could be ready for the event, though the first full trailer isn’t expected to drop for a few months. Moreover, there’s been talk lately that a Toy Story 4 trailer might be imminent, while fellow Disney releases Dumbo, Aladdin and The Lion King could also show up somewhere during the broadcast.

Beyond that, Paramount’s What Men Want has a solid chance of dropping a trailer, while we perhaps can’t rule out Alita: Battle Angel, Happy Death Day 2U, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, Pet Sematary, Hellboy, Detective Pikachu, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Rocketman, Men in Black: International, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, Hobbs and Shaw or It: Chapter 2 getting some exposure. There’s maybe even a slight chance we’ll see something from Joker, Zombieland 2 or Frozen 2, though we wouldn’t get our hopes up about any of those.

Evidently, there are lot of possibilities for what the Super Bowl could bring us on February 3rd, but regardless of what ends up landing some ad space, the internet will surely be left with plenty to discuss.

Blumhouse’s Halloween Sequel Gets The Honest Trailers Treatment

Proving that no feature film is immune to the Honest Trailers treatment, the good folks over at Screen Junkies have turned their attention to Halloween, the 2018 sequel from Blumhouse and director David Gordon Green.

By and large, Michael Myers’ long-anticipated return was a resounding success, given Halloween earned rave reviews and a healthy $253 million at the global box office. It’s not enough to set the world on fire, but for an R-rated trip down memory lane, Green’s sequel ticked all the right boxes – that is, until Screen Junkies claimed their next victim as part of the ongoing (and frankly hilarious) Honest Trailers video series.

Here’s a snippet:

After nine sequels and reboots that ranged from ‘meh’ to ‘please kill meh’, only one creative team can restore the Halloween franchise to its former glory: Kenny Powers and the director of Your Highness.

There are one or two hilarious observations peppered throughout the video essay, including the similarities between Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and the iconic Sarah Connor of the Terminator franchise. Also, it seems the townsfolk of Haddonfield spend way too much time pulling pranks and trying to scare one another – especially after that fateful night in 1978. The result? A whole lot of faux scares that precede the inevitable jump scares, which is a trick that David Gordon Green pulls one too many times.

Nevertheless, Halloween is able to stand on its own two feet as a wonderful expansion of the Michael Myers-fronted franchise, and one that will hopefully inspire a sequel of its own. Neither Blumhouse nor David Gordon Green have announced anything official, but we’ll be keeping you posted.

Alternate Once Upon A Deadpool Scene Suggests X-Force Is Cancelled

Following in the footsteps of The Avengers and DC’s ill-fated Justice League movie, 20th Century Fox and director Drew Goddard are plotting a superhero ensemble movie of their own in X-Force.

Starring Ryan Reynolds and most, if not all of his Deadpool alumni – namely Josh Brolin and Zazie Beetz – the mash-up was supposed to go before the cameras late last year, before rumors of its cancellation began to emerge. Suffice it to say, the project is no longer a sure thing, and as part of the home video release for Once Upon a Deadpool (h/t ComicBook.com), Reynolds includes a tongue-in-cheek joke claiming that the X-Force movie was nothing more than a ruse to keep Josh Brolin at Fox.

Here’s the exchange:

Wade: PETER!

Peter: WOO HOO – X-Force!

Wade: Peter! Walk…away! Just walk away.

And continued:

Peter: But, we’re X-Force.

Wade: Nope. We’re not. X-Force is just a marketing tool designed by Fox executives to keep Josh Brolin employed. It doesn’t exist.

Peter: Well, this has been pretty scary. And I need to feed my cats.

Wade: Go home, sugar bear. Go home.

Peter: Okay, will you give Domino my email?

Given this is a direct quote from the Merc With a Mouth, there’s a very good chance that Reynolds is simply being flippant when he says that the X-Force movie is (was?) nothing more than a marketing ploy. Besides, we’ve caught wind that Brolin signed a multi-picture deal when he agreed to play the time-traveling Nathan Summers, so even if X-Force winds up trapped in the bowels of development hell, there may still be hope for Cable and Co. after all.

Once Upon a Deadpool, meanwhile, is now available across all the usual platforms, so get it while it’s hot.

Tony Todd Explains Why He Turned Down The Candyman Vs. Leprechaun Movie

The Leprechaun franchise has gone in some strange and perplexing directions over the years, but if you feel like the horror comedy series couldn’t get much sillier than Leprechaun 4: In Space or Leprechaun in the Hood, there was a brief moment when the studio was seriously considering a crossover with the Candyman films until actor Tony Todd shot down the idea.

The unrealized crossover came up in a recent interview with Dread Central, prompting Todd to share his side of the story, and why he didn’t want to see the Candyman face off against Warwick Davis’ Irish killer:

“This was right around the time of Freddy vs Jason and [Candyman vs Leprechaun] did come across my desk. I saw it and I said, ‘I will never be involved in something like that.’ I respect the character. Once a horror character becomes something of an icon [like Candyman], reluctantly or not, you have to treat that with respect that. I remember watching Abbott and Costello vs Frankenstein continuously as a kid and being amazed that my horror legends were making a comedy. So, I guess there are some ways to make something like that work, but I wasn’t interested in doing that with Candyman.”

Given the huge gulf in tone between Candyman and Leprechaun, this was probably the right call. Granted, the Leprechaun movies has always indulged in zany ideas, but it’s hard to imagine the sinister world of Candyman blending well with the goofy carnage of its fellow horror property.

In any case, the Leprechaun franchise persists with the release of Leprechaun Returns last month, while Jordan Peele is set to produce a “spiritual sequel” to the original 1992 Candyman. And while Todd has his doubts that he’ll be a part of the reboot, he’s at least proud to see that the series continues to draw the interest of filmmakers as renowned as Peele:

“It’s a fantastic occurrence for me that I never could have imagined. Most films have a shelf life of maybe one or two years. But I think that with horror films in particular, once they click with fans, they never let them go. So, I’m honored that, A: Someone would want to bring Candyman back and, B: That someone of Jordan Peele’s caliber wants to produce it. That’s extraordinary and I think it’s going to be a great boon for horror fans and for Candyman fans worldwide.”

As it stands, we have only a few details on the Nia DaCosta-helmed reboot, though Deadline reported last year that the film will be set in the “now-gentrified section of Chicago where the Cabrini-Green housing projects once stood.” Regardless, there’ll be plenty of time to learn more before the new Candyman hits theaters on June 12th, 2020.
