Here’s What Robert Downey Jr. Would Look Like As Batman

Following 10 years of Marvel blockbusters and instantly quotable one-liners (“we have a Hulk”), Robert Downey Jr. has truly cemented his place as the beating heart of the MCU.

For many, he is Tony Stark, and it’s often difficult to distinguish where Iron Man ends and Robert Downey Jr. begins. It’s a credit to Marvel’s casting department, then, that film fans soon fell in love with RDJ’s portrayal of Stark, a character who has since graduated to become the franchise’s brooding father figure (see: Spider-Man: Homecoming), as opposed to its reckless wildcard.

But what if things panned out differently? What if Robert Downey Jr. was elected to become the poster child for Hollywood’s other major comic book franchise – Worlds of DC? That alternate reality is projected onto the following canvas, thanks to some deft work by the inimitable Boss Logic.

From an artistic standpoint, it’s another incredible piece from Boss Logic, but given how well suited Robert Downey Jr. is to the role of Tony Stark, it’s hard to imagine him donning the cape and cowl as Gotham’s Dark Knight. For one, he’d have to tone down that sarcastic charm that Iron Man is known for, all the while adopting a gruff, hardened exterior so as to properly capture the spirit of Bruce Wayne’s alter-ego. And, frankly, that doesn’t sound very appealing.

Back in the realm of reality, though, and RDJ is gearing up for what will undoubtedly be the most-talked-about comic book movie event of 2019 – Avengers 4. Word is the first teaser trailer will be with us next week (November 28th, perhaps?), so keep your peepers peeled.

Canceled Darth Vader Comic Has Fans Worrying About Star Wars: Episode IX

In these past few weeks, there’s been a Star Wars: Episode IX theory making the rounds that next year’s trilogy-closer will see the return of Darth Vader – not necessarily in body, but at least in spirit – and the basis for this idea stems largely from the material we’ve seen so far in the comics. With that in mind, some fans are taking it as a bad omen that the previously planned Star Wars: Shadow of Vader miniseries has been canceled.

This development comes about after writer Chuck Wendig was fired from the project for what he describes as “too much politics, too much vulgarity, too much negativity” in his Twitter activity. Since some fans were anticipating that Shadow of Vader could provide further set-up for the title character’s return in Episode IX, speculation has emerged that Disney could be planning to take the villain out of the film as well.

Regardless of whether Vader is or isn’t appearing in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming movie, this particular line of reasoning seems full of holes. For one thing, the previous speculation about the character coming back was based on thin evidence to begin with, stemming primarily from a previous Darth Vader comic in which a late Sith is seen inhabiting the life of the helmet.

What’s more, with the Star Wars movies taking clear priority over the comics in Lucasfilm’s plans, it’s hard to imagine the cancelation of this series leading to any significant rewrites in next year’s release. It would be one thing if the comic was canceled because of changes to the film, but it seems we have a very clear reason for why this comic won’t be made, and it has nothing to do with the actual content of any Star Wars release.

With Lucasfilm holding back on the details of Star Wars: Episode IX, it’s understandable that fans might be anxious to jump on any development as a clue of what’s to come. But when the evidence is this thin, perhaps it’s best to just sit back and remind yourself that all will be revealed when the film hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.

Farewell to the Steam Link, the best wireless HDMI gadget ever made

Why am I sad that a tiny black puck which streamed games over a Wi-Fi network will soon disappear from shelves around the world? Because too few people experienced the magic that the Steam Link affords.

Over the past couple years, it seemed like PC gaming juggernaut Valve couldn’t give away the gadget fast enough, charging as little as $2.50 for the $50 gadget on sale. That’s probably why the company is quietly discontinuing the device today, though the company will continue support. (Valve says the Steam Link is already selling out around the world, and when it’s gone, it’s gone.)

My pet theory? The Steam Link was just too tough an idea to get every PC gamer’s head around. The little black box beams PC games to your TV through the power...
