AMC Hoping To Produce “Multiple Movies” Based On The Walking Dead

Who wants to live forever?

It’s the oft-cited quote from Freddie Mercury and Queen about chasing immortality and the hidden dangers it may bring. It can also be applied to the entertainment industry, what with so many franchises and TV series – like, say, The Walking Dead – on the hunt for evergreen status.

So whereas Game of Thrones is about to bow out after eight installments – much to the dismay of George R.R. Martin – AMC’s The Walking Dead is very much here to stay, and may well outlive us all if the network’s master plan is anything to go by.

Per Bloomberg, not only is AMC aiming for another “decade plus” of TWD, but they’ve seemingly drawn up tentative plans for “multiple movies” and new TV shows based on the original graphic novels, presumably on the belief that The Walking Dead is a franchise big enough to rival the likes of Star Wars.

The company, which owns the popular zombie-apocalypse series, plans to produce multiple movies and new TV shows based on the graphic novels that spawned the series, according to people familiar with the plans. AMC has talked to several large media companies about partnering on the projects, which collectively could cost several hundred million dollars.

Doing so may force AMC to buddy up with potential partners, as launching new series and full-blown movies can be an expensive venture. Through time, though, the network also wants to bring The Walking Dead overseas in the hope that the hit zombie drama can resonate with international viewers just as it did with those in North America.

The company would also take the franchise overseas, setting at least one series in another country. The Walking Dead is one of the most popular shows in dozens of countries. Scott Gimple, who produced several seasons of The Walking Dead, is overseeing development of different narrative possibilities. He was named chief content officer for both The Walking Dead and its prequel Fear the Walking Dead in January.

The Walking Dead‘s ninth season has been scheduled for a premiere on October 9th, and will signal Andrew Lincoln’s last appearance as Rick Grimes. We’re not crying, you’re crying!

MCU Fans Are Shocked At Seeing Captain Marvel Punch An Old Lady

With great power comes great responsibility, and the titular lead of the upcoming Captain Marvel is about as powerful as MCU superheroes get. On the responsibility front, however, Carol Danvers could maybe use a little more work, unless you think that the height of nobility is punching sweet old ladies in the face.

To be fair, if there’s anyone who would have good reason for assaulting the elderly, it’s Carol, who’s known to be wrapped up in a conflict against the Skrulls – shape-shifting beings who are capable of taking the most innocent and human of forms. This deceptive ability has already prompted many a fan theory about who in the Marvel universe could actually be one of these green-skinned creatures in disguise. But if you’re unaware of Captain Marvel’s history with this invasive race, then the moment in the new trailer where she socks a woman right in the mug probably came as quite a shock.

Sure enough, Twitter was flooded with reactions from users who were stunned by this seemingly thuggish display from Brie Larson’s character, with people reacting as follows:

At the same time, there were still quite a few fans who caught on quick about the true nature of this incident:

While it seems likely that the old woman is not how she appears, there’s certainly potential for some cruel comedy in next year’s release as Carol tries to determine the real humans from the fakes, perhaps making the occasional, very painful error in her judgement. Still, she’ll probably be saving some of her hardest wallops for Ben Mendelsohn’s character, who may work as Nick Fury’s boss in S.H.I.E.L.D., but is actually the villainous Skrull leader Talos in disguise.

Here’s hoping Carol doesn’t doesn’t get too paranoid in her hunt for the enemy when Captain Marvel comes out on March 8th, 2019.

Aubrey Plaza And Brian Tyree Henry In Talks To Star In Child’s Play Reboot

The upcoming Child’s Play reboot remains a topic of controversy among the fans. MGM’s decision to push ahead with the horror film without the involvement or permission of series creator Don Mancini has been met with considerable backlash, due in part to the man himself already having plans for his own Child’s Play: The TV Series. It surely doesn’t help that the upcoming movie will propose a considerably different origin story for the psychotic Chucky either, doing away with the doll’s possession-based roots to suggest a robot toy who’s been programmed for evil.

Nonetheless, it’s hard to find much fault in these two casting choices for the next Child’s Play. Collider reports that actors Aubrey Plaza and Brian Tyree Henry are both in talks to feature in the flick, and regardless of what you think of the project as a whole, MGM could certainly do much worse than landing this pair.

Aubrey Plaza of Parks and Recreation and Ingrid Goes West fame is said to be in negotiations to play a mother in the movie – most likely Karen, the mom of main character Andy. ComicBook.com previously relayed a statement which told us that Karen will be “a bit of a mess but loves her son very much. She lives in a small apartment and has a job at a superstore that sells Buddy dolls. By chance, she takes home the dysfunctional Buddy doll before it is returned to the factory, as she can’t afford a birthday gift for her son.”

Plaza’s comedy roots seem a strong indication that the Child’s Play franchise won’t lose its sense of humor in the reboot. As for Henry, the star of Atlanta and the upcoming If Beale Street Could Talk is in talks to play a detective, which probably makes his chances of living to see the end of the movie a little slimmer than Plaza’s.

While MGM’s handling of the property has been met with much condemnation – including from a former cast member of the franchise – we can at least hold out hope that the next Child’s Play will be a worthwhile horror film in its own right, and casting these two talents looks to be a step in the right direction.

The Downton Abbey Movie Has Been Given A Release Date

The cameras, they are a-rolling on the set of Brian Percival’s Downton Abbey film. And to prove it, Lady Mary herself, Michelle Dockery, shared a really rather stylish set photo just the other day. She’s set to be a prominent player in the long overdue movie, of course, given her ties to the Crawley Family, so we’ll be keeping a close eye on the actresses’ personal Instagram feed as production continues.

It shouldn’t be long before we see more from the film, either, as we’re learning today that it’s set to make its way into theaters next fall. That’s right, Focus Features has announced that Downton Abbey will arrive on the big screen on September 20th, 2019, with those across the pond getting it a bit earlier, on September 13th.

“Since the series ended, fans of Downton have long been waiting for the Crawley family’s next chapter,” commented Focus chairman Peter Kujawski. “We’re thrilled to join this incredible group of filmmakers, actors and craftspeople, led by Julian Fellowes and Gareth Neame, in bringing back the world of Downton to the big screen next September.”

Plot details are practically non-existent at this early, early stage, and understandably so, but fans of the beloved TV show can at least rest assured that, yes, one of television’s greatest ever dramas is about to receive the send-off it deserves, and it’ll be here sooner than we thought.

Lining the cast list for the project are a number of familiar faces, with Dame Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville and even Dan Stevens all expected to reprise their respective roles come 2019. They’ll be getting some help from a number of newcomers, too, as Imelda Staunton, Geraldine James, Simon Jones, David Haig, Tuppence Middleton, Kate Phillips, and Stephen Campbell Moore all signed on late last month in undisclosed parts.

It’s official: the Crawley family has cordially invited one and all back to Downton Abbey for this special event movie. And with production now well underway and a release date set, it shouldn’t be too much longer before we have a trailer to feast on.
