‘Quantumania’ deleted scene reveals Marvel cut a sword-slashing Kang action sequence, because of course it did

Perhaps the biggest tragedy concerning Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is that evidence suggests Marvel might have once had a much better movie on its hands than the one we ended up seeing. First, fan detectives realized that the film’s underwhelming happy ending was likely the result of some last-minute reshoots that took place just weeks before its release. Now, a fresh behind-the-scenes video appears to unveil a removed Kang action scene that looks like it would’ve been epic.

This eye-popping stunt video, as shared by @MCU_Covered in the tweet below, showcases Xavier Lake — Jonathan Majors’ double as Kang the Conqueror — wielding a sword and a mace while practising for what looks to be a brutal fight scene between the villain and Ant-Man and the Wasp. Evangeline Lilly’s stunt double Lauriane Rouault originally shared the clip on Instagram, before later removing it (probably at the studio’s request).

Brie Larson may have MODOK’s butt hole to blame if ‘The Marvels’ ends up tanking as bad as ‘Quantumania’

Unfortunately, Brie Larson has had to deal with a lot of a**holes over her time in the MCU so far, thanks to the endless yammerings of misogynistic morons online, but the most problematic to date may have just shimmied its way into view. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is proving to be far from the grand Phase Five opener we were all hoping for, turning out to be less of a dramatic debut for Jonathan Majors’ Kang and more of a showcase for Marvel’s worst impulses, like the need to show us M.O.D.O.K.’s bare backside.

Quantumania has so thoroughly dropped the ball, what with its franchise-low critical scores and box office descent so steep it’s reaching Morbius levels, that fans are wondering if it’ll end up taking the rest of Marvel’s 2023 slate with it. As begun by Redditor u/myusernamestaken on the r/MarvelStudios sub, it’s being discussed if The Marvels now has no hope of matching 2019’s Captain Marvel due to lingering feelings over the Paul Rudd threequel.

MCU fans growing cautiously optimistic after ‘Blade’ reportedly sets a shooting date

The MCU’s Blade reboot has a reputation for being cursed. Marvel Studios reacquired the rights to the Daywalker way back in 2011, and in 2019 announced that Mahershala Ali would be taking up the silver stakes and katana, but we’re now well over three years on with nothing to show for it.

Over the past year, the movie has lost its original director Bassam Tariq, had its production start date repeatedly pushed back, endured total script rewrites, and supporting characters being recast late in the day. Finally, there’s some light on the horizon. According to Production List, the shoot will begin in Atlanta on May 1, with the film closing out Phase Five in late 2024.

MCU fans float their inspired suggestions for spinoffs that have nothing to do with the Multiverse Saga

Fans are getting a little tired of the Multiverse Saga, especially after the underwhelming performance of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. While many are calling for the MCU to slow down and focus more on individual stories, some have gone a step further and pitched their own ideas.

On Reddit, fans were asked what movies or TV shows they would want to see if they didn’t have to tie into the multiverse or the wider MCU. They started the ball rolling with their own dream spinoff; a show centered around WandaVision’s Jimmy Woo and Darcy Lewis as they investigate more superhuman anomalies.

‘Quantumania’ star addresses fan reactions to the MCU’s latest divisive offering

It’s safe to say Marvel Studios didn’t want to start Phase 5 like this. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has opened to some of the worst reviews the MCU has ever gotten, ending up at just 48 percent on the Tomatometer. Less than two weeks on from release and it’s sitting at $363 million at the box office, which is great for an Ant-Man movie, but disappointing for the franchise in general.

Complaints have ranged from a confusing story that sidelines its hero, shoddy CGI (M.O.D.O.K. instantly became a meme), and Jonathan Majors’ new big bad Kang not being a patch on Thanos, but at least the widespread criticism doesn’t seem to have brought star Kathryn Newton down.

The latest expensively underwhelming original from Netflix offsets apathy to secure the #1 spot in 54 countries

You know the drill by now; Netflix comes along with a brand new genre film that cost a pretty penny to produce, loads it up with recognizable stars and an intriguing high concept premise, and debuts it on the platform to immediate success while critics do little more than shrug their shoulders. Right on cue, We Have a Ghost has arrived to keep the streak alive, ironic given that it’s about someone who died a long time ago.

Per FlixPatrol, Freaky and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon’s most ambitious and accessible feature yet has lived up to its end of the bargain by instantly securing the number one spot in 54 countries around the world, finally ending the reign of terror that’s seen Ashton Kutcher and Reese Witherspoon’s forgettably frothy Your Place or Mine hold the global charts in a stranglehold for almost two weeks straight.

James Gunn rubs salt in the wounds of the SnyderVerse by selling a DC adaptation to Netflix

Having made it abundantly clear to the last burning embers of the #RestoreTheSnyderVerse movement that they won’t be getting their wish under any circumstances, James Gunn has only gone ahead and rubbed a mountainous pile of salt into an already cavernous wound.

The many criticisms being leveled at Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania may have been offset by the fact the latest chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe secured several notable box office milestones on its way to an opening weekend of over $100 million, but the honeymoon period is over.

‘Star Wars’ fans air their grievances with a line just as bad as ‘somehow Palpatine has returned’

“Somehow Palpatine returned” is rightly considered one of the worst lines ever uttered in Star Wars. Fans were already scratching their heads at how a villain we saw tossed into a reactor core on a space station that then exploded could make a comeback, so there was a minor revolt when it became apparent that The Rise of Skywalker was just going to skate past the explanation (and no, Merry Brandybuck muttering about “secrets only the Sith knew” doesn’t count).

Oscar Isaac looks embarrassed to have to say it, with the common comparison that this is as ludicrous as being told in real life “somehow Hitler returned”. But is there another sequel trilogy line that’s low-key just as bad?

MCU theory compares Doctor Strange to one of horror’s most iconic figures

It’s no Werewolf by Night, but Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness did a pretty handy job of associating the MCU‘s premier sorcerer with its spookier corners, courtesy of Sam Raimi and Elizabeth Olsen’s ability to sell a mother possessed.

And with Multiverse of Madness sending Doctor Strange off to the Dark Dimension in its mid-credits scene, it’s not hard to imagine his next appearance involving more than a few creep factors; we’re hoping that one of them takes the form of Ghost Rider, but then, we hope for just about everything with every passing Marvel release.

‘Back to the Future’ theory paints the whimsical trilogy in an altogether darker light

Let us be the first to say that we endorse the act of indulging in the art of the fan theory; imagination makes the world go round, and especially when it comes to some of history’s most beloved blockbuster sagas – itself a cultural apex of imagination – we would go as far as to say it’s a natural response.

But the imagination can go anywhere, and that includes some particularly dark corners, ones that can be accessed even when faced with Robert Zemeckis’ flagship sci-fi franchise Back to the Future, which, even with some of its rocky subject matter, is chiefly known as a barrel of fun across many generations.

‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ having anime-style action is splitting the MCU fandom right down the middle

With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, James Gunn is saying goodbye to Marvel Studios. Since 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Gunn’s fingerprints have been all over the MCU, with his work almost single-handedly fleshing out the interstellar side of the universe. Warner Bros. is hoping he’ll bring that magic to the DCU, though everything we’ve seen of Vol. 3 indicates it’s going to be one hell of a swansong.

There are also some indications that Gunn may switch up the action style for this final movie, with some leaked merchandise having many fans noting a distinct anime influence. Notable additions are Groot having angelic wooden wings (which, incidentally, may be lifted from his Fortnite skin) and Nebula being compared to Battle Angel‘s Alita:

Tessa Thompson wants Valkyrie to get her chance to ‘take Kang out’ in the MCU

While we wait to see more of Kang and Valkyrie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following the characters’ recent outings in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania and Thor: Love and Thunder, respectively, Jonathan Majors and Tessa Thompson are battling it out in another major franchise. With Creed III hitting theaters soon, we will be seeing Majors and Thompson share the screen, which instantly begs the question: will Kang and Valkyrie ever meet in the future? The Thor actress thinks that, if they do, the Asgardian King could successfully take on the time-traveling overlord.

Thompson made the bold claim in a recent interview for Big Screen Little Screen, saying “if there’ll be a crossover at some point, and I actually have my chance to take him out, I believe [Valkyrie] could.” As skilled a fighter as Valkyrie is, the way Kang is being set up as the MCU’s biggest threat yet, she might have to call on the help of a few Avengers.

The best dads in the MCU, from Scott Lang to Tony Stark

Daddy issues are possibly the best conflict driver there is in storytelling, but a good, loving fatherly relationship can also go a long way in centering the characters and upping the stakes when they’re out fighting the villain of the day. The Marvel Cinematic Universe knows this well, which is why there are so many heroes in the franchise with daughters and sons who become, essentially, the most important thing in their worlds.
