DC dissenters don’t exactly share Gal Gadot’s enthusiasm for ‘Wonder Woman 3’
Gal Gadot has started hyping DC fans for Diana Prince’s return in the sequel to Wonder Woman 1984. The film is yet to begin production, and is expected to start shooting sometime in 2023 before finally hitting the theaters in 2024. Though according to the actress, Wonder Woman 3 will be “worth the wait,” DCU loyalists aren’t convinced in the slightest.
The last we saw the title hero, she had managed to avert a major crisis by defeating Maxwell Lord and Barbara Minerva. But she was left heartbroken after she lost the love of her life, Steve Trevor, all over again. While the first film had fans wanting to know more about the latest DCU superhero, 1984 left a sour taste. Everything from the thin storyline and nonsensical plot points to the problematic way Steve returns in a random, innocent man’s body who is not aware of what is happening attracted criticism.

New DC Studios boss James Gunn reportedly has to win the affections of Dwayne Johnson and Matt Reeves
James Gunn officially begins his tenure as co-CEO of DC Studios tomorrow, with the filmmaker and producer Peter Safran given the unenviable task of steadying a ship that’s been navigating through choppy waters for a long time.
Whether it’s the alarming volume of projects to have been announced over the years that never even came close to getting made, the myriad of pocket universes being overseen by a number of talents, a greater sense of continuity the former WB regime was actively trying to abandon in the wake of the Justice League fiasco, or any of the other noted issues to have plagued the former DCEU over the years – it’s not going to be an easy job.

Defenders of an acclaimed apocalyptic thriller will not stand for slanderous claims that a bad time was had
Relentlessly dark and bleak movies aren’t for everyone, but if a hefty heaping of cinematic nihilism is right up your street, then John Hillcoat’s The Road comes highly recommended.
Viggo Mortensen and Kodi Smit-McPhee traverse through an apocalyptic wasteland following an extinction-level event that decimated the human population and left society in tatters. It may have flopped at the box office after barely recouping its $25 million budget from theaters, but it isn’t held up as one of the finest near-future tales of the last decade or so for no reason.

Marvel Studios producer offers a huge update on the future of the Eternals
We may have gotten a flash of text reading “Eternals will return” after that tense post-credits scene with Kit Harington, a magic sword, and Mahershala Ali’s voice, but that was before the film managed to nab the unsavory distinction of being the worst-reviewed film to ever come out of Marvel Studios, with the moldy cherry on top being that it’s the only film to be certified “Rotten” by critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
Having hit such a low with Eternals, some were skeptical as to whether this would be the end of the line for Sersi and company, especially Druig actor Barry Keoghan, who has on multiple occasions been quite vocal over the lack of news surrounding the MCU’s most obscure team.

‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ director confronts speculation he’s tackling ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’
The fifth and sixth assemblies of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are in development and on the way, but Avengers: The Kang Dynasty already has a significant advantage over Secret Wars, the latter of which was recently delayed by six months.
The former has Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton poised to wield the megaphone, with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania scribe Jeff Loveness on screenwriting duties. The latter has Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness veteran Michael Waldron furiously hammering the script into shape as we speak, but the top job remains vacant.

MCU fans already growing impatient for the return of a key Phase Four player
We’re effectively a third of the way through the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s Multiverse Saga, and if there’s only one thing we know for sure, it’s that we certainly haven’t seen the last of any Phase Four’s exciting new additions to the canon; from Shang-Chi and Ms. Marvel to America Chavez and Moon Knight, the roster of Earth-616’s champions is looking as evergreen as usual.
But for the most dedicated, it’s not about the “if,” but the “when.” For Shang-Chi in particular, who we haven’t heard a whisper from since his debut in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (one of Phase Four’s first films), fans everywhere are hoping to see him sooner rather than later, as he and his eponymous weapon are set to play an enormous role in the fight against Kang. In search of community and soothing theories, such fans have flocked to r/marvelstudios to discuss.

Henry Cavill’s jam-packed schedule could keep pushing ‘Man of Steel 2’ that little bit further away
It’s already been nine years since Man of Steel arrived to reboot Superman, launch the DCEU, and leave fans demanding a sequel, so the vociferous supporters of Zack Snyder’s origin story are well accustomed to the wait for any concrete news on a second installment.
Just when it was beginning to look as if all hope was lost, though, a combination of Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam and a regime change at Warner Bros. Discovery opened the door for the franchise’s canonical Kal-El to make his triumphant return, with Cavill now happy to shout from the rooftops that he’s back in a big way.

HBO Max is set to lose one of the most iconic horror franchises ever made in November
As the spooktacular month of October draws near its end, corporations and companies alike are preparing for the ever-popular holiday season, which includes rolling out the red carpet for an abundance of Christmas movies and television shows. But before Mariah Carey and her Christmas anthem defrost for the winter, streaming services like HBO Max are eager for fans to enjoy an iconic horror franchise for a few more weeks, before the notable genre franchise is removed from the service in November.
The franchise in question is Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street, which features its entire catalog of films on HBO Max. However, horror fanatics and Freddy Krueger stans only have a select number of weeks left to binge through the series, as it prepares to wave its final goodbye — which is pure blasphemy, if you ask us. As per ComicBook.com, all Nightmare movies, including the Freddy vs. Jason (2003) spinoff, are set to be removed from the platform on Nov. 30.

One of the ‘Star Wars’ sequel trilogy’s most opinion-splitting twists continues to divide the fandom
We’re now five years on from Star Wars: The Last Jedi but it’s still reliably generating controversy. Many fans are still furious about the way it deconstructed traditional Star Wars elements, the perceived “disrespectful” treatment of Luke Skywalker, the mere presence of Laura Dern’s Admiral Holdo, and the way it efficiently resolved the unnecessary puzzle boxes established in The Force Awakens.
One of the biggest mysteries concerned the sinister Supreme Leader Snoke. In the period between The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, fans theorized that he could secretly be any number of unlikely characters. A resurrected Grand Moff Tarkin? A corrupted Mace Windu out for revenge? Could he even be… Mon Mothma?!

Horror fans rue great movies ruined by one insufferable character
It doesn’t just happen to horror fans; everyone has that one movie that springs to mind whenever someone mentions an insufferable character. If it weren’t for the irritating antics of one singular personality, a lot of movies — specifically in the realm of horror — would be much easier on the eyes and a lot less aggravating.
Over on the r/horror subreddit, fans gathered all their suggestions for the most intolerable characters in any horror movie, starting out with the OP (Original Poster)’s Dashcam (2021), directed by Host‘s Rob Savage. The entire movie is shot from the perspective of either a hand-held iPhone or a dashcam fitted in a car. Let’s just say that the reception wasn’t great, especially since Dashcam failed to break even at the box office. It follows Annie Hardy, who plays a semi-fictionalized version of herself and has been deemed “the most annoying and terrible person” by u/Faint13.

DC fans don’t have an easy life, having faced years of frustration as films are canceled, boneheaded executives overrule directors, and the general sense of chaos and drama that has surrounded the whole enterprise.

‘Star Wars’ stans ponder whether Darth Sidious was really a true-believer Sith
The Star Wars universe is fortunate that most Sith Lords burn out fairly quickly. The physical strain of devoting yourself to the Dark Side warps your body into something monstrous, and trying to dominate the galaxy in a black cloak with a red lightsaber (scary mask optional) paints a big target on your back for any budding Luke Skywalkers out there. On top of that, the Sith “Rule of Two” means there’s always an ambitious apprentice waiting for you to slip up so they can seize the throne for themselves.
All of which makes it interesting that Darth Sidious dodged those bullets for a very long time (and even after being thrown into a reactor shaft, still managed to mount a comeback).

An MCU fan favorite is still holding out hope for a Disney Plus series
At this current point in time, the Marvel Cinematic Universe infamously features a wide range of scintillating characters who have either already received their own Marvel-fronted spinoff series and/or movie or are on the verge of receiving it. And while the latest chatter in the MCU has been centered around the ever-popular She-Hulk, the actor behind another Marvel fan-favorite is apparently holding out hope that a future series will focus on their character of Jim Woo.
Upon his initial arrival in the MCU back in 2018 with Ant-Man and the Wasp, fans immediately found themselves enamored with Randall Park’s Jim Woo, prompting a strong campaign for him to finally receive the spotlight that he so rightfully deserves. The beloved character, portrayed by Park, has subsequently made appearances in other forms of Marvel media, including WandaVision (2021) and Aquaman (2018).

A brilliantly chilling horror considered one of the best of the year returns to terrify on streaming
Horror is undoubtedly an ever-popular genre that keeps viewers coming back for more, and with a year as groundbreaking for horror as 2022, it’s certainly no major shock that genre fanatics have been eager for a particular spooky feature to make its long-awaited debut on streaming — and that would be in reference to Barbarian.
Released back in September, the Zach Cregger vehicle sought to convey a twisted Detroit experience to viewers, who definitely found much to be enthralled with. With that being said, Barbarian easily overshadowed several other horror films throughout the summer months, including Jordan Peele’s Nope and Alex Garland’s Men — both one-word titles that failed to match the allure of Cregger’s directorial debut.

‘Big Trouble in Little China’ star wants Dwayne Johnson to leave the cult classic well alone
If you can believe it, t’s been seven years since the ominous news first emerged that Dwayne Johnson was planning to produce and star in either a remake, reboot, or sequel to John Carpenter’s beloved cult classic Big Trouble in Little China.
As you’d expect given the genre-bending original’s reputation and standing in the eyes of its fans, the response was hardly that of widespread enthusiasm. Even though the project appears to have made absolutely no forward momentum since first being announced, Seven Bucks figurehead Hiram Garcia hinted as recently as last summer that it remained on the docket.

An ass-kicking icon’s worst-ever action movie takes the law into its own hands on streaming
Dwayne Johnson’s Hollywood career didn’t get off to the most stellar of starts, and there was barely a soul in the industry who could have predicted that he’d end up becoming one of the biggest and most popular movie stars of the 21st Century, especially when he was regularly churning out dreck like 2004’s Walking Tall remake.
The Rock’s tentative first steps towards superstardom were tenuous to say the least, with The Rundown, Doom, and Southland Tales all bombing at the box office and taking a critical pounding. That was almost exactly the fate to befall his remake of the 1973 vigilante thriller, too, which only managed to bring in $57 million at the box office on a $46 million budget.

Deadpool creator offers a reminder that Zack Snyder’s fingerprints are still all over the DCEU
Even though the DCEU fandom was sent into a rapturous state of celebration by Henry Cavill confirming he was on his way back to the franchise in a major capacity to resume his residency as the franchise’s full-time Superman, you can guarantee that the more vocal subset of supporters still won’t give up on their continued calls to have Zack Snyder follow in his footsteps.
After all, it’s been half a decade since the theatrical cut of Justice League was released to almost zero fanfare from the fandom, and 19 months since the filmmaker’s four-hour version of the all-star ensemble epic dropped on HBO Max, but Snyder still trends at least a couple of times a week anytime the DCEU makes the headlines for whatever reason.

A barely competent slasher packed full of genre icons terrorizes the streaming streets
One of the single most surprising things about the current complexion of modern horror is that nobody has opted to reboot, remake, or breathe new life into the Urban Legend franchise. Virtually every other noteworthy IP has been dusted off at least once, but the street-level slasher saga has been sitting on the shelf gathering dust since 2005’s threequel Bloody Mary.
In fairness, that might have something to do with the fact all three installments were hardly greeted with glowing praise, even by the less discerning gorehounds who just want to witness bloody murder onscreen. Urban Legend could only rustle up a 24 percent Rotten Tomatoes score and 37 percent user rating, even if it did manage to haul in $72 million at the box office on a $14 million budget.

The needless remake of a remake of an all-time great tries to justify its existence
Remaking a classic has often proven to be a fool’s errand, so it’s easy to understand why questions were being asked as to why a remake of a classic that was itself already a remake of a classic needed to exist. Truth be told, Antoine Fuqua’s The Magnificent Seven isn’t bad at all, but it was never going to come close to matching either of its illustrious predecessors.
John Sturges’ 1960 Western is rightfully held up as one of the finest entries in the history of the genre, while Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 landmark Seven Samurai has an even more impressive standing in the cinema – with the sprawling epic serving as both one of the greatest and most influential films the medium has ever seen.

‘Star Wars’ stans wonder if a shift in focus would have saved the sequel trilogy
Disney’s Star Wars sequel trilogy is the poster child for cinematic missed opportunities. With Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher on board, they had a stacked cast of some of the best actors in new roles, and what sounded like a smart philosophy of using practical effects as much as possible.
Sadly, it didn’t work out as it should have, with the plan to have each installment helmed by a different director and failing to decide the overarching plot ahead of time resulting in a disjointed story culminating in the catastrophic The Rise of Skywalker. Ever since, fans have been theorizing how Lucasfilm might have done better, with one theory that it could have been a brilliant trilogy if John Boyega’s Finn had been the main character instead of Rey.

Review: ‘The Good Nurse’ avoids serial killer sensationalism in favor of the bigger picture
Modern audiences have become increasingly insatiable when it comes to their desire for content revolving around notorious serial killers, unsolved cases, and long-running mysteries, whether that’s through feature films, episodic shows, documentaries or podcasts. Sensationalism can often be used as a crutch to fall back on, but Netflix’s upcoming true-life thriller The Good Nurse (premiering on October 26) wisely focuses on the bigger picture rather than the horrific crimes themselves, which is to the film’s immense benefit.
Director Tobias Lindholm’s slow-burning mix of character-driven drama, investigative procedural, and unsettling look at the damage done by turning a blind eye could have taken the easy way out and placed most of its focus on the shocking atrocities committed by Charles Cullen, a nurse who was convicted of killing 29 patients during a 16 year-career working in hospitals across the United States.
