He might currently be out of action having suffered the recurrence of an old shoulder injury during stunt rehearsals for his upcoming return as the titular intrepid archeologist in Indiana Jones 5, but for the most part Harrison Ford remains in fine fettle for a man of his age.
The screen legend turned 79 years old yesterday, and he’ll be an octogenarian by the time James Mangold’s fifth and purportedly final installment in the Indy series hits theaters next year. Not many actors are lucky enough to land one iconic role during their lifetime never mind two, with Henry Jones Jr. and Han Solo two of the most popular characters in the history of cinema, cementing Ford’s legacy 40 years ago.
On top of that, he’s also headlined a string of critical and commercial hits including his two outings as Jack Ryan in Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger, appeared in a minor capacity as part of Francis Ford Coppola’s classic The Conversation, headlined all-time sci-fi great Blade Runner, steered The Fugitive and Air Force One to major success and even showed up to wink at the camera in The Expendables 3. To mark the occasion, fans have been heading online to pay tribute, as you can see below.
It’s an incredible filmography he’s amassed, and while his output over the last decade hasn’t come close to matching the glory days, it’s still been comforting to see him return as both Indy and Han in largely nostalgia-driven sequels. He should definitely consider stepping away from the cockpit after being involved in several aviation-related incidents, but fans arguably love Harrison Ford more than ever these days since he’s embraced his status as Hollywood’s foremost curmudgeon, with his no f*cks given attitude and clear apathy towards being asked Star Wars questions seeing him go viral on a semi-regular basis.
