Mark Hamill Teases Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker With Touching Tweet

It seems that Luke Skywalker won’t let a pesky thing like death slow him down, as Mark Hamill is set to reprise the character in the upcoming Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

It’s all but confirmed that his appearance in the film will be as some kind of Force Ghost, having died in The Last Jedi at peace with the world and becoming one with the Force. Exactly how big of a role he’s going to play remains to be seen, but given that this is billed as the finale of the nine-movie Skywalker saga, he should at minimum get an emotional goodbye moment.

We may have gotten a small hint as to what that’ll consist of as well in his answer to a question on Twitter. Hamill was asked to give fans a hint on what’s in store of us in The Rise of Skywalker, but by limiting himself to just three words.

Here’s what he said:

Well, that’s not a huge surprise. I mean, Luke Skywalker is already pretty dead and it’s going to be difficult making periodic reappearances as a Force Ghost in future films as they’re not supposed to age. Also, it feels like there’s a real sense of finality to this movie, that we’re finally (no kidding this time) putting away some of the toys that George Lucas began playing with over forty years ago.

Seeing the (we assume) final appearances of genuine icons like Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Ian McDiarmid and Hamill himself in the upcoming film is bound to be an emotional moment. Let’s just hope that J.J. Abrams gives these actors and the characters they’ve brought to life the send-off they deserve.

Naturally, the franchise won’t end there, though. As of yet, we don’t have confirmation that the Sequel Trilogy characters like Rey, Kylo and Finn are returning (if indeed they survive this movie), but I somehow doubt their stories will finish in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
