Movie theater employees across the country must be tired of getting tossed around by Avengers: Endgame. Given that the latest superhero film now holds the record for the biggest global opening of all time, and shows no sign of stopping anytime soon, you can only imagine how much popcorn there is to sweep.
But one fact that threw both ushers and audiences across the nation for a loop was the absence of a post-credits scene. These little clips and tidbits have been synonymous with the MCU for the past 11 years, but the Russo Brothers opted out of the tradition to offer one last goodbye to the late, great Iron Man.
Well, now that’s changing. Sort of. Theaters around the country have reportedly been asked to insert the new Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer after the main feature.
As we all know by now, the newest look at the MCU’s next film contains major spoilers from Endgame. Literally starting with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker saying, “everywhere I go, I see his face. I just really miss him,” it talks plenty about the sacrifice made by Tony Stark, and the consequences of battling Thanos.
This puts theaters in a tough spot. Spider-Man: Far From Home is a top-billing advertisement, one they’d want to put out there. But there would be an uproar if the ending of the movie they’re playing is ruined before it even begins. So, putting it after Endgame seems to be the only logical answer, right?
Well, fortunately for all of the businesses involved, 97% of people who go to watch these movies stick around for a post-credits scene. Sony even provided a quick clip of Tom Holland telling fans to stick around for the trailer afterwards.
It’s a strange marketing idea, for sure. But one that plays just right to the Marvel audience, proving once again that Kevin Feige and his team know exactly what they’re doing.
