Spider-Man: Far From Home Director Says Vulture Isn’t In The Movie

Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s post-credits scene seemed to suggest that we’d see more of Michael Keaton’s Adrian Toomes in the sequel, as it teased the formation of something like the Sinister Six. As he went down so well in that movie, it’d make sense for Marvel to bring him back to battle Tom Holland’s Spidey again, right? Well, wrong, apparently, as we’ve now been told that Vulture won’t take to the skies again in Spider-Man: Far From Home

Following the release of the second FFH trailer yesterday, director Jon Watts chatted with Fandango about the movie and the topic of a possible return for Keaton came up. The filmmaker was quick to squash any hopes that he might be back, however. At the same time, he clarified that Laura Harrier wouldn’t be seen as Liz Toomes, Vulture’s daughter, either.

“Keaton is not in the movie. And Laura is not in the movie.”

Apart from Homecoming‘s tag scene, this is pretty surprising, as rumors previously pointed to both stars returning for Far From Home. Obviously, as a Marvel director, Watts is trained in the art of telling white lies to withhold spoilers about his movie – the Russo brothers are masters at this – so maybe we should still keep an open mind.

At the same time, though, it’s very possible that Keaton and Harrier won’t be involved, as Far From Home has so much going on as it is. Nick Fury’s (forcibly) taking on the role of Peter Parker’s mentor following Iron Man’s death in Avengers: Endgame. Jake Gyllenhaal is his new friend-turned-foe Mysterio and apparently, the movie’s introducing the concept of the Multiverse into the MCU. Though take that with a pinch of salt.

In any case, we’ll take Watt’s words at face value for now and, who knows, maybe we’ll be pleasantly surprised when Spider-Man: Far From Home swings into cinemas on July 2nd?
