The Avengers Have To Live Up To Their Name In New Endgame TV Spot

For once, the heroes failed to save the day in Avengers: Infinity War, as Thanos succeeded in wiping out 50% of the universe’s population. Though they lost so many of their friends, you can be damn sure they’ll avenge them when they go up against the Mad Titan again in Avengers: Endgame

That’s certainly the aim, anyways, as exemplified in this new TV spot. To mark just five days to go until it arrives in theaters, the promo above gives us another sliver of fresh footage. The 15-second trail features a voiceover from Rocket Raccoon, who has some typically abrasive words of encouragement for his newfound allies. “Alright, Avengers,” says the last Guardian of the Galaxy. “Time to live up to your name.”

The TV shot then splices together shots of the heroes during a meeting at the Avengers complex – Thor, Hawkeye and Rocket, to be precise – with snippets of them in action – most notably, Iron Man showing off his new gadgets on Titan and Captain Marvel going into binary mode in space. It then ends on a bit of a comedic note, as War Machine scares a resting Scott Lang, quipping: “What’s up, Regular-Sized Man?”

It’s funny there should be a line about living up to the Avengers’ name in Endgame, as we just discovered the origins of it in Captain Marvel, which explained that Nick Fury got the idea for his Avengers Initiative from Carol Danvers’ nickname in the Air Force. Rocket’s words also feel like a callback to Tony’s desire to avenge Phil Coulson’s death in 2012’s The Avengers

Of course, this is bound to be just one of many ways in which Avengers: Endgame refers to past MCU movies, as the film is set to wrap up what we’re now calling the Infinity Saga – every outing in the franchise from 2008’s Iron Man to the present day. And all the signs are pointing to it doing that with aplomb when it hits theaters next week, on April 26th.
