Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Will Have A Secret Shop For Building Lightsabers

The opening of the first Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge expansion in Disneyland, California is quickly approaching and if you’re still looking for a few more reasons to start getting excited about the new region, the Mouse House recently dropped a ton of new details on the park and its many features.

At the Droid Depot, for instance, you’ll be able to build your own astromech droids with various parts and colors that will interact with elements of the land. Alternatively, guests will also be able to construct their own custom weapons at Savi’s Workshop – Handbuilt Lightsabers in what Disney calls a “mystical experience.”

In fact, from what we understand, this is set to be one of the most exciting parts of Galaxy’s Edge. You see, given that the park is supposed to be the alien planet of Batuu, where the Resistance has a stronghold and the First Order have taken up residence, Savi’s Workshop is designed to be a secret. After all, we’re not sure the First Order would be alright with someone selling lightsabers.

In any case, if you find yourself making your way there, you’ll be able to build the real deal, with a finished hilt costing around $109 and a blade carrying a $50 price tag. It’s expensive, sure, but where else can you go to build a real – or at least, as real as it gets – lightsaber? You’ll need to sign up for a build session ahead of time, too, as it’ll take a while to construct the device.

“Everything was created through the lens of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge,” said Brad Schoeneberg, director, merchandise strategy and new park experience development at Walt Disney World Resort. “The product that you leave with is the one that you’ve designed based on the choices that you’ve made, and reflects the one that really is inherent to your Star Wars adventure.”

All in all, it sounds like Disney isn’t taking half-measures with the experience, with Savi’s Workshop being just one part of what the company’s calling the “largest single-land expansion ever.” In fact, among the many other features that Galaxy’s Edge has to offer is a ride titled Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run, which will give visitors the chance to pilot Han Solo’s ship for an experience that’s said to be a bit different every time.

If this sounds like somewhere you’d like to visit – and really, you’d be a fool for not checking it out at some point – then be sure to start looking into tickets for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge when it opens in Disneyland in Anaheim, California this June, before arriving in Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida in the fall.
