As much as the stars of Avengers: Endgame love to tease and troll their fans with hints of what’s to come, it’s becoming increasingly clear that the cast is often pretty in the dark themselves about the content and promotion of the Avengers: Infinity War sequel.
At a recent Black Panther press event, for example, Scarlett Johansson admitted to being caught off guard by last Friday’s Endgame trailer drop and title reveal, with Erik Davis from Fandango recalling his exchange with the actress in the following tweet:
“At an event for #BlackPanther hosted by Scarlett Johansson. I told Scarlett that the #AvengersEndgame trailer was the most watched ever in its first 24 hours, and she was floored. She had no idea it was dropping, says even she didn’t know the title of the film”
Indeed, Johansson isn’t the first Endgame cast member to admit that she didn’t know the name of the very film she acted in, with Don Cheadle and Karen Gillan claiming much the same in recent months.
Gillan has even gone as far as to say that she hasn’t seen a full script for the film, and that directors Anthony and Joe Russo only gave the actors as much information as they needed to perform their particular scenes. Sebastian Stan arguably topped even that claim, however, with his assertion last month that he doesn’t even know if he’s in the movie, and with Endgame thought to be undergoing some heavy trimming before it reaches cinemas, the Bucky Barnes actor might actually be telling the truth.
But while the film’s first teaser was careful to avoid showing any character who passed away in the events of Infinity War, we did get to see Black Widow share the screen with her old friend Steve Rogers, and it looks like a collaboration with Ant-Man could also be on the cards. Either way, we’ll see how the surviving team cleans up the mess that Thanos left when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th, 2019.
