Remember when Mark Ruffalo went on Jimmy Fallon and claimed to ‘reveal’ the title of Avengers: Endgame in October? It turns out that might have been a joke, as apparently what he said on the show wasn’t (as previously reported) Avengers: Annihilation or Avengers: The Last Avenger, but instead Avengers: Register to Vote. So, rather than him being a rebellious star who didn’t mind breaking the strict spoiler laws Marvel Studios have on their actors, he was simply urging the audience to register to vote in the November 6th midterm elections.
Now that the cat’s out of the bag, Ruffalo took to Twitter to share his reaction to the film’s first trailer and jokingly proclaim his annoyance that they didn’t use his title, saying:
“I see that @marvel didn’t take my “Avengers: Register to Vote” title suggestion, but we’re cool. Can’t wait for you too see this one.”
I guess if this is the case, then his energetic and largely bleeped out description of a scene where the Hulk bursts out of some kind of pod and kicks ass is probably made up, too. While I imagine the Hulk probably will be kicking ass at some point in the film (he’s got unfinished business with Thanos, after all), it won’t be as Ruffalo told it.
But circling back to the title, and after all that theorizing about what it might be, it turns out Endgame had been staring us in the face all along. Not only was it referred to in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Infinity War, but it was even decoded by fans from that cryptic image the Russo brothers posted online back in September. I think it’s a pretty neat title, both intimidating and serious sounding, but also indicating that we’ve properly come to the end of an era in the MCU. Who knows what’ll come next, but hopefully we’ll find out when Avengers: Endgame hits cinemas on April 26th.
