It’s a small miracle that Loki still has a confirmed future in the Marvel franchise given how many times the character has “died” in his various screen outings. In fact, with a new post on Reddit, the case is made that Thor’s mischievous brother “has only a 40% chance of making it out of an MCU film alive.”
As the accompanying image recently shared by user TheChlorideThief demonstrates, Tom Hiddleston’s character has ostensibly died in three out of his five movies so far. Of course, in the cases of Thor and Thor: The Dark World, Loki only appeared to meet his demise, with Hiddleston popping up once more at the end of each film. It’s only right, therefore, that the Reddit post has inspired debate among fans about what exactly qualifies as ‘a Loki death,’ and what the actual figure should be for the character’s chances of surviving.
One point of discussion that directors Anthony and Joe Russo helped lay to rest just a few weeks ago, however, is Loki’s fate in Avengers: Infinity War, with the pair confirming at a Q&A last month that the former Avengers villain is definitely dead. But while the trickster’s demise at the hands of Thanos apparently wasn’t another of his famous fake-outs, Loki is still set to return to our screens by way of his own Disney Plus TV show.
This, of course, raises the question of whether the character’s death could somehow be reversed in next year’s Avengers: Endgame, along with the fates suffered by the many victims of the Decimation, though we surely can’t rule out Loki’s series being set earlier in the timeline. You can expect some clarification on the matter when the sequel to Infinity War hits theaters on April 26th, 2019.
