Amidst the current holiday festivities, many a Marvel fan will likely have one eye on the New Year and the various MCU developments heading our way in the coming months. As a matter of fact, even while wishing his followers a Merry Christmas, Robert Downey Jr. himself found a way of linking the day to a certain metal-clad hero.
The Avengers: Endgame star took to Twitter earlier today with a quick message sending season’s greetings to his many fans:
“Merry Christmas from the man in the big red suit!”
The “man in the big red suit” that Downey is referring to here is, of course, Iron Man, with the tweet’s accompanying image showing Tony Stark looking dressed for the holiday and ready to deliver some presents.
If the first trailer for Endgame is anything to go by, then Tony could probably do with the real Santa Claus pulling up in his sleigh and offering a ride, with the recently shared footage showing Iron Man stuck drifting through space in a ship that’s going nowhere fast.
Since we can probably assume that Marvel Studios doesn’t intend for one of their most popular heroes to spend his last film slowly withering away in a gloomy little ship, it’s a safe bet that Tony will find some way or another out of his situation. Naturally, the fans have their theories, with suggestions of Iron Man’s potential savior ranging from Pepper Potts to Captain Marvel to Rocket, but regardless of how Stark manages to cheat this lonely death, we’ve still no guarantee that the Phase 1 Avenger will live to see the movie’s end credits. We’ll just have to wait and see when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th, 2019.
