With Avengers 4 scheduled to bring Marvel’s Phase 3 to a close, we’ve been hearing a lot of reports lately about the passing of certain torches to the next generation of heroes, from rumors of a new Captain America to a new Hawkeye.
So, when it was announced a few days ago that 22-year-old Katherine Langford would be featuring in the Avengers: Infinity War sequel, it wasn’t long before a wave of speculation came our way over the actress’s potential role, with many of these theories placing her as the daughter or young successor to a pre-established character.
Popular suggestions have included Scott Lang’s daughter Cassie and Clint Barton’s daughter Lila – both of whom are said to have grown up after the film’s widely predicted time jump. The latest rumor from MCU Cosmic, however, posits that the parents in question could be none other than Tony Stark and Pepper Potts.
Since the couple were still childless at the end of Infinity War, this would imply a leap forward in the timeline by a couple of decades or so, prompting the follow-up suggestion that this character may be part of a future that a time-traveling Stark will have to sacrifice in order to undo the Snap.
While the report rightly stresses repeatedly that it’s offering little more than a rumor, there are certainly worse guesses for who Langford could be playing. After all, Tony and Pepper’s conversations about having a child will have to go somewhere, and a family connection like this sounds like it could add something new to the drama without diverting too much time and attention in a film that already looks to be packed full of familiar characters.
Either way, we’ll see what Langford brings to the MCU when Avengers 4 hits theaters on May 3rd, 2019.
