Seeing how the new Halloween just passed the $100 million mark at the box office, it’s no longer a question whether David Gordon Green’s new slasher sequel will be getting a follow-up of its own. One detail we’re less sure about, however, is whether actress Jamie Lee Curtis will be making yet another appearance in this long-running horror series, and her recent comments on the matter still leave a fair amount of uncertainty.
Speaking to Empire Magazine Australia, the star of the 1978 Halloween and the latest release of the same name suggested that she’d be keen to come back for another clash with Michael Myers, but on one condition.
“If David Gordon Green called me up and said let’s do another Halloween, I would do another Halloween,” Curtis emphatically stated. “Because he did such a beautiful job creating this movie.”
While Curtis has made her thoughts very clear, what remains to be seen is whether Green would be as interested in returning for a sequel. On the one hand, a report from a few weeks ago claimed that both Green and his co-writer Danny McBride will not be involved in this next flick, and that a new scribe is currently working on a script. Then again, with the director already teasing ideas for territory that the follow-up could cover, perhaps we shouldn’t be too quick to rule him out.
Either way, Green can walk away from this franchise knowing that a lot of people are very happy with the job he did. Along with its phenomenal commercial success, the new Halloween has earned easily the strongest critical reception of any sequel in the series. So if this latest film does prove to be Curtis’ last, at least we can all agree that Laurie got a better sendoff than the one Halloween: Resurrection was once supposed to give her.
