‘Doctor Strange 2’ fans are hoping for some major cameos

Now that Spider-Man: No Way Home has set the bar for surprise cameos, Marvel Cinematic Universe fans are fully expecting Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness to sail over it with the greatest of ease.

Ever since Benedict Cumberbatch’s solo sequel was given an official title, the rumor mill has remained in a perpetual state of overdrive, with virtually every star to have played a decent-sized role in any Marvel Comics adaptation dating back 20 years finding themselves linked with a return.

Kevin Feige explains why the MCU didn’t reboot Green Goblin or Doc Ock

The first two installments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man franchise made a conscious decision to use villains that had never been seen in live-action before, a wise move to differentiate itself from the Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield eras.

It was a decision that paid huge dividends after Michael Keaton’s Adrian Toomes and Jake Gyllenhaal’s Quentin Beck turned out to be inspired pieces of casting, providing formidable foes for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker to contend with, while bringing some fresh antagonism to the table.

An undisputed festive favorite charts on multiple streaming platforms

The annual debate over whether or not Die Hard is a Christmas movie has become a rather moot point, because the vast majority of people are fully aware that the action classic qualifies as a festive favorite, even though some folks still love to try and stir up a social media debate by acting like they’re the first person to come up with the wild and crazy theory.

Director John McTiernan even went to great lengths explaining why John McClane’s adventure in, on and around the Nakatomi Plaza is a Christmastime romp, which kind of draws a line under the whole thing. It also helps that Die Hard is arguably the single greatest action extravaganza to come out of Hollywood, so it’s re-watchable at any time of year.

Sneaky ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Easter Egg drops ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ hint

Even though we’re only a few months away from the release of Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder, and we’ve got a pretty good idea of how all the major players are going to fit into the story, plot details remain virtually non-existent.

Chris Hemsworth’s Odinson was partnered up with the Guardians of the Galaxy the last time we saw him, while Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie is dealing with the pressures of ruling New Asgard. Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster makes her Marvel Cinematic Universe return after almost a decade, and she’s getting superpowers for good measure, without even mentioning Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher looking to live up to his name by slaying some deities.

Gal Gadot marks ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ anniversary with BTS images

As the sequel to both the best-reviewed installment in DCEU history and a box office behemoth that earned $822 million in the summer of 2017, Wonder Woman 1984 came burdened with huge pressure.

From both a critical and commercial perspective, though, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that Patty Jenkins’ second installment failed to deliver. While the pandemic can be blamed for the dismal $166 million theatrical haul, and the HBO Max viewership numbers were admittedly strong, fans were left divided by the movie’s narrative merits.

‘No Time to Die’ star wants to return for the next iteration of James Bond

Based on the ending of No Time to Die, it seems highly unlikely that any of the current supporting players will be invited to return for the next iteration of cinema’s most famous secret agent.

After all, the Daniel Craig era ended by doing the unthinkable and sending 007 out on his sword, or more accurately a fiery blaze of glory. James Bond had never been killed onscreen before, and when you remember that the actor’s tenure boasted the deepest sense of continuity we’d ever seen from the franchise before, it looks to be game over for the rest of the ensemble, too.

‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ passes major box office milestone

Most of the plaudits have been following Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s box office performance, which is fair when the web-slinging epic has soared past a billion dollars at the box office faster than any movie ever not named Avengers: Endgame, but let’s not forget about Sony’s other Marvel Comics adaptation in all of this.

Given the circumstances created by the pandemic, there was absolutely no chance that Venom: Let There Be Carnage would come close to matching the $856 million haul of its predecessor. That’s especially true when you consider the symbiotic sequel hasn’t yet been approved for release of China, where the opening chapter hauled in a massive $269 million.

Guillermo del Toro’s stop-motion ‘Pinocchio’ is set in fascist Italy

The concept of ‘twin films’ is hardly a new phenomenon, and while the two projects in question can often be largely indecipherable from each other in the broadest strokes, nobody’s going to get next year’s competing Pinocchio movies mixed up.

On one hand, we have Disney’s big budget hybrid of live-action and CGI, which has Robert Zemeckis directing and reuniting with his Forrest Gump and Cast Away star Tom Hanks, who plays Gepetto in the streaming exclusive. On the other, Netflix have a dark, stop-motion musical fantasy on the way, with Guillermo del Toro behind the camera.

‘No Time to Die’ star says the pandemic didn’t change the plot

Even though No Time to Die had long since finished shooting by the time the pandemic came along and ground the planet to a standstill, the added post-production time could have conceivably given the creative team the impetus to make some changes to the narrative.

One of the driving forces behind the plot is the looming threat of a bioweapon, and it would be fair to suggest that many audiences had grown weary of dealing with a real-life biological threat, never mind a fictional one. Of course, that didn’t stop the 25th installment in the James Bond franchise from earning close to $775 million at the box office, because at the end of the day it’s still escapism on a massive scale.

Guillermo del Toro names which of his movies you should watch first

Guillermo del Toro has directed eleven movies since making his feature-length debut on 1993’s Cronos, and he’s got a twelfth coming to Netflix next year when his dark, fantastical stop-motion spin on Pinocchio arrives, but you can generally take an educated guess as to what his output will entail.

There’s going to be sumptuous production design, detailed world-building, plenty of Gothic trappings, accomplished performances, and more than likely a role for either Ron Perlman or Doug Jones. With two Academy Awards under his belt for writing and directing The Shape of Water, del Toro may be a prestige filmmaker these days, but he’s also the guy that helmed Blade II and pitted giant robots against giant monsters in Pacific Rim.
