‘Argylle’ director says Apple’s star-studded blockbuster could play in theaters

Having paid upwards of $150 million to secure the distribution rights to the first installment in what’s being planned as a trilogy, Apple clearly have huge faith in Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle.

Which is fair, when the filmmaker’s stints at the helm of X-Men: First Class and the Kingsman franchise have proven that he’s no slouch when it comes to helming efficient big budget blockbusters, wrangling a star-studded cast and delivering a winning blend of heart, humor and spectacle.

Marvel Studios reveals official holiday poster

Even though Disney Plus evidently doesn’t agree based on the movie’s omission from the various holiday-themed collections available on the platform, Iron Man 3 was trending all day yesterday as fans revisited the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s premiere festive favorite.

For a long time, Shane Black’s threequel was the closest we’d come to a full-blown Yuletide installment in the world’s biggest and most popular film and television franchise, but Hawkeye has changed all of that. There was holiday cheer dripping out of the screen throughout Clint Barton and Kate Bishop’s New York City adventure, so it’s no surprise that the series serves as the basis for the official Marvel Studios holiday card.

‘The Amazing Spider-Man 3’ may have been certifiably insane

As you may have noticed, there’s been a groundswell of support surrounding The Amazing Spider-Man 3, which would have been unthinkable this time last year, never mind back in 2014 when Andrew Garfield’s sequel turned out to be the worst-reviewed and lowest-grossing outing the web-slinger has ever endured in live-action.

Third and fourth installments already had release dates locked in, before Sony scrapped its second Spidey franchise in favor of getting in bed with Kevin Feige’s Marvel Studios, which has definitely worked out very well for all parties so far. Based on what we know about The Amazing Spider-Man 3, though, it would have been bonkers, and not in a good way.

‘Shang-Chi’ star addresses a potential romance in the future

One recurring flaw of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been the franchise’s habit of shoehorning in a love interest, which in the grand scheme of things brings absolutely nothing of note to the table.

There are exceptions to the rule, including Tony Stark and Pepper Potts, Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter, Peter Parker and MJ, and Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes, but the misses are close in number to the hits. Thor and Jane Foster have zero romantic chemistry, fans rebelled against Steve kissing Sharon Carter, Christine Palmer wouldn’t have been missed were she not in Doctor Strange at all, and the list goes on.

Given that it’s literally a database containing information about virtually every movie and television series to have existed in the past, present and future of the industry, managing to secure a place on the famous IMDb Top 250 is a feat that a minuscule percentage of films have ever managed to accomplish.

‘The Matrix Resurrections’ director addresses potential new trilogy

After eighteen years away from our screens, Neo is back at long last now that The Matrix Resurrections is playing in theaters and HBO Max from today. Reviews and reactions have been fairly polarizing to put it lightly, but the franchise still tops the most-anticipated list for many longtime fans of the series.

Believe it or not, not every legacy sequel has to be designed specifically as a relaunch, and there’s no reason why the key creatives can’t deliver a blockbuster one-and-done effort based on a recognizable IP. Of course, that’s not the way the industry works, so speculation has already run rampant that Resurrections could signal the beginning of a second Matrix trilogy.
