Henry Cavill Trends After James Bond Producer Offers Casting Update

No Time to Die hasn’t even been released yet, but the rumor mill has already shifted into gear about what comes next for James Bond. Longtime franchise producer Barbara Broccoli definitively ruled out the notion of a woman stepping in to inherit the mantle of 007, before confirming that the casting search will begin next year.

Almost instantly, Henry Cavill’s name began trending on social media, as the internet once again threw its collective weight behind The Witcher star. The actor made it down to the final two before Craig was hired to reboot Bond in Casino Royale, and he’s almost exactly the same age now that the current incumbent of the tux was back then.

Tom Hardy Addresses Negative Critical Response To Venom

If it wasn’t for Tom Hardy, then Venom wouldn’t have been anywhere near as enjoyable as it turned out. As always, the reliably dedicated and committed star gave his all to the role, avoiding any standard tropes of what the leading man of a superhero blockbuster is supposed to be by presenting Eddie Brock as a sweaty, neurotic and nervous mess.

It worked a treat, with critics raving over his performance, even if they weren’t quite so kind to the movie itself. Venom holds a Rotten Tomatoes score of just 30% from over 350 reviews, so acclaim was hard thing to come by. Audiences clearly disagreed, though, with Ruben Fleischer’s opening installment rocketing to over $850 million at the box office and garnering an 81% audience rating on the aggregation site.

Harley Quinn Artist Directing Animated Project For Marvel Studios

Having conquered live-action twice over, with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings still dominating the box office to push the franchise’s combined haul well past $25 billion as the Disney Plus shows draw in massive viewership figures, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has now set its sights on animation as the next frontier.

Tomorrow brings the penultimate episode of What If…?, but a second season of the multiversal series has already been confirmed. On top of that, recently-promoted studio executive Victoria Alonso revealed the current plan is for Marvel to establish a mini-studio specifically to deal with animated content after outsourcing What If…? to external companies, and a mysterious new MCU project has now landed a director.

James Gunn Avoids Mentioning Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 Death

James Gunn has already confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is going to feature the death of a major character, but he’s got no intention of even hinting who it might be until the movie comes to theaters in May 2023. Of course, fans love to debate the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming projects years in advance, so the speculation has already started.

On paper, Dave Bautista’s Drax would be the most obvious candidate, if only for the fact he’s the one member of the principal cast so far to have confirmed that he’s done with the franchise after Vol. 3. A lot of the chatter has focused on Rocket, though, after several rumors claimed his backstory could be a significant factor in the plot.

Kevin Smith Reveals How He’d Want To Join The MCU

No offense to Kevin Smith, but he’s never going to get the nod to direct a Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster, not that he’d even want to. The filmmaker has been incredibly vocal about how little he enjoyed his sole director-for-hire experience on dire buddy comedy Cop Out a decade ago, describing the process of working with Bruce Willis as true darkness.

He does have plenty of previous in the genre from both an on and off-camera perspective, though, having made cameos in Ben Affleck’s Daredevil, animated movies Superman: Doomsday and Teen Titans: The Judas Contract, while he’s also directed episodes of the Arrowverse’s Supergirl and The Flash, lent his vocal talents to the Audible adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman and wrote several comic books for Marvel and DC.

James Gunn Reveals Bizarre Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 Fan Request

James Gunn has a reputation for being one of the most open, honest and accessible Hollywood filmmakers on social media, regularly responding to fan questions or offering updates on whatever projects he’s currently working on, while he even takes the time to debunk an unfounded rumor every now and again.

Twitter is a strange place at the best of times, especially if you’re a celebrity with millions of followers, so you can imagine that not everything fired towards his timeline is asking when we can expect to see the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, or whether HBO Max’s Peacemaker is in line for a second season.

New Eternals Image Reveals A Great Look At Kingo’s Costume

As is the case with any Marvel Cinematic Universe project, the cast for Chloé Zhao’s Eternals is positively stacked, and the ensemble strikes a similar balance to many of the franchise’s feature film and television lineups.

Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek provide the A-list star power, Game of Thrones veterans Richard Madden and Kit Harington are recognizable names, Gemma Chan and Brian Tyree Henry are steadily rising up the Hollywood ranks, with Lia McHugh providing the unknown element. Perhaps the most interesting addition is Kumail Nanjiani, the everyman comedian who got insanely ripped to play Kingo.

A Forgotten Liam Neeson Bomb Is Blowing Up On Streaming

As a general rule of thumb, ever since Liam Neeson reinvented himself as one of the industry’s most popular action stars with Taken, his signature brand of mid budget thrillers have been much more enjoyable than his forays into effects-driven blockbuster territory.

The actor’s legacy will forever see his career split into the pre and post-Taken phases, where he threw off the shackles of his reputation as a dignified character actor capable of bringing gravitas to even the most mundane of projects, morphing into a genuine box office draw and beloved ass-kicker.

A Controversial Smash Hit Is Dominating Netflix Again

There’s no golden rule that says popular movies have to be any good, and that’s certainly true of steamy Polish thriller 365 Days. The film was resoundingly panned by critics, and bears the unwanted distinction of a 0% Rotten Tomatoes score, but it ended up as one of the platform’s most-watched titles of 2020.

The continued controversy surrounding the storyline had plenty to do with that, though, after 100,000 signatures backed a petition for the streamer to remove 365 Days from the library. In the end, that only convinced more people to check it out and see what the fuss was all about, and we’re even getting two sequels out of the deal, which is worse than the opposite effect of a petition.

Watch: Tom Hardy Argues With Himself In Venom: Let There Be Carnage Promo

Director Andy Serkis and star Tom Hardy have variously described Venom: Let There Be Carnage as a love story, a buddy movie and an odd couple comedy, albeit with the notable caveat that one of them is a mild-mannered reporter and the other is an intergalactic parasite with a rampant desire to eat people’s heads.

Suffice to say, the sequel to Ruben Fleischer’s opening installment is poised to double down on the weirdness and insanity, especially with Woody Harrelson and his wig looking to chow down on as much scenery as possible as villain Cletus Kasady, who boasts a symbiotic alter ego of his own.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife Images Reveal Mischievous New Ghost

The most recent trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife received a mixed response from fans, who were wondering why there wasn’t a single joke to be found in the promo for what’s been hyped up as the supernatural comedy sequel we’ve all been waiting for since 1989.

It was an interesting choice to edit the footage in such a reverential fashion, but it’s not as if director Jason Reitman is taking the franchise originated by his father Ivan and leading it down the hard-hitting dramatic route that’s landed him four Academy Award nominations for writing, directing and producing Juno and Up in the Air.

Dwayne Johnson And Gal Gadot React To Red Notice Fight Scene

Netflix opted to kick off the weekend’s TUDUM event in explosive style, roping in the world’s biggest movie star to unveil a brand new clip from the platform’s most expensive project yet, showcasing a fight scene between a trio of massively popular A-listers. If you weren’t aware already; Red Notice is a huge deal.

Written and directed by Dodgeball and Skyscraper‘s Rawson Marshall Thurber, the high concept actioner follows Johnson’s FBI profiler John Hartley, who finds himself caught up in a globetrotting adventure full of twists and turns that pits him alongside and opposite Ryan Reynolds’ conman Nolan Booth and Gal Gadot’s art thief Sarah Black.

The TUDUM teaser offered the winning blend of action, comedy and quips audiences will be expecting from Red Notice, and as you can see below, two of the three leads shared their thoughts on the footage with their millions of social media followers.

Reynolds also uploaded the clip to YouTube with the title “We Tried to Fight Gal Gadot”, so the central trio are clearly going all-in when it comes to raising Red Notice awareness. The film comes to Netflix on November 12th, where it stands a great chance of becoming the streamer’s most-watched original feature ever.

James McAvoy Addresses A Potential Return As Professor X

The rumor mill swirling around Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has seen the name Charles Xavier crop up on a regular basis, whether it’s a brief cameo appearance or a full-blown supporting part introducing the Illuminati into the mix. One thing the speculation can’t seem to agree on, though, is who’ll end up reprising their X-Men role.

A recently leaked image that purportedly revealed a previz of Patrick Stewart generated no shortage of buzz on the internet, but we’ve also heard on more than one occasion that it’ll be James McAvoy dropping by Sam Raimi’s superhero sequel. Of course, it could always end up being neither of them, but in a new interview with Collider, the younger iteration of the comic book icon revealed his thoughts on returning as the X-Men founder.

“I feel like I got to explore, not everything I wanted to explore, because there’s always more, surely, but I got to explore a ton of Professor X, and I feel quite satisfied with what I got out of him as a performer. It’s not to say that you don’t ever want to, you never want to come back, and you never want to do it again, and all that kind of stuff. You never say never, as I believe James Bond once said. But I’m not chomping at the bit. I’m not going to be gutted and desperately sad if it never happens again.”

That’s the standard ‘never say never’ response we hear from almost any actor to have shown up in a multi-billion blockbuster series, so it’s hard to glean much information from McAvoy’s answer. He was exactly as solid as you’d expect across the most recent X-Men movies, even if Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix marked a relatively disappointing end to what remains one of cinema’s highest-grossing franchises.

As always, then, we’ll just have to wait until Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness comes to theaters next March before we find out the identity of the movie’s surprise guests, of which dozens upon dozens of potential candidates have been touted.

Black Panther Star Reveals His Hopes For The Future Of The Franchise

He may have been killed off in the first installment, but that doesn’t mean Andy Serkis won’t be keeping a close eye on the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as it moves through production, and ultimately hits theaters in July of next year.

The actor’s Ulysses Klaue allowed him to deliver a broad, over-the-top performance as the movie’s resident nefarious arms dealer, a role that he recently reprised with relish in Marvel’s What If…?. Even if Klaue had survived the events of Black Panther, there’s no guarantee Serkis would have even been available for the sequel given his jam-packed schedule.

The 57 year-old has his third directorial effort Venom: Let There Be Carnage coming to theaters on Friday, while Matt Reeves’ The Batman lands in March 2022. On top of that, he’s got Taika Waititi’s sports comedy Next Goal Wins, literary adaptation No One Gets Out Alive and Netflix’s Luther movie on the horizon, so free time is at a premium.

In a new interview with i09, Serkis revealed his hopes for the future of the Black Panther franchise, from Wakanda Forever and beyond.

“Wakanda as a world, as a place, as a philosophy is such an extraordinary thing. So I’m really excited to see how it evolves, how it unfolds. Obviously, it’s very, very sad in the wake of Chadwick Boseman’s departure, but I’m sure that the story will go some way to memorialize such an extraordinary performance and such an incredible actor and person in that movie.”

Danai Gurira’s Okoye is already signed to headline the spinoff series in development for Disney Plus, so the Black Panther mythology continues to expand on multiple fronts. Wakanda Forever is going to be as emotional as it is bittersweet, but Ryan Coogler and his crew will be looking to exceed the sky-high expectations.
