Andy Serkis Wants Venom To Meet More Villains Before He Gets To Spider-Man

Throughout the buildup to Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Spider-Man’s name has cropped up almost as often as that of Tom Hardy’s symbiote, with everyone hedging their bets on the sequel’s credits scene teasing the most overt connection yet between Sony’s Spider-Man Universe and Kevin Feige’s MCU.
It’s happening eventually, and we’ve known that for a while, but the real question is how long we’ll have to wait. Director Andy Serkis has been batting away questions about Peter Parker everywhere he goes, constantly reiterating that there’s much more he wants to do with Venom before the epic crossover fans have been waiting for.
In a new interview with ScreenRant, Serkis once again dodged inquiries pertaining to Tom Holland’s web-slinger, revealing that he’d rather see Venom do battle against some of the other supervillains at Sony’s disposal before he goes toe-to-toe with another iconic comic book favorite.
“But I think there’s real mileage in some of the other supervillains that reside in Ravencroft. I think there’s so much… There’s such fertile ground to be uncovered there. That would be the sandbox I’d be really interested in playing. Who’s lurking in there that could break out?”
It must be a source of consternation for Serkis that he’s trying to promote Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which looks set to do bumper business at the box office by the standards of the pandemic era, but all anybody seems to want to ask him about is Spider-Man. We’ll get there eventually, but for now the focus should be on the project that lies directly ahead, not one that could potentially be years away.

Eternals Star And James Gunn Tweet Plan For Guardians Of The Galaxy Crossover

The Marvel Cinematic Universe never stops moving, with two dozen projects currently in various stages of production and development, all of which are expected to arrive before the end of 2024. Eternals is next out of the gate on November 5th, with Hawkeye premiering on Disney Plus less than three weeks later.
On top of that; Spider-Man: No Way Home is in the can, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk have wrapped, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, The Marvels, Secret Invasion and Moon Knight are all in front of cameras, while James Gunn calls action on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 before the end of the year, and he’s shooting a Holiday Special as part of the production schedule.
That means there’s going to be crossovers aplenty, and in an irreverent Twitter thread, Eternals star Kumail Nanjiani and Gunn threw some ideas back and forth about a potential cosmic cameo by Kingo in Vol. 3 that you can see below.
What happens in the big one?

You misspelled “get their asses kicked by”
— Kumail Nanjiani (@kumailn) September 24, 2021
Could you please add Donatello & Dilton Doiley into the scene? I'm sure they'd help me.
— Kumail Nanjiani (@kumailn) September 24, 2021
No notes. Have at it.
— Kumail Nanjiani (@kumailn) September 24, 2021
While both of them have their tongues planted firmly in cheek, who’s to say we couldn’t have the Eternals meet the Guardians in a future project given their intergalactic origins? Of course, Vol. 3 marks the end of the line for Gunn and Dave Bautista, but that doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of Star-Lord, Gamora, Nebula, Mantis, Rocket and/or Groot.

WandaVision Star Confirmed For Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom

Production on Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has been underway since the end of June, but it’s only just been confirmed that the mid-credits scene from the first installment is definitely getting paid off following the news WandaVision fan favorite Randall Park has officially signed on the dotted line to return as Dr. Stephen Shin, as per The Hollywood Reporter.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was announced for Lost Kingdom right out of the gate, but at least we know for sure that we’ll be finding out what happened in the aftermath of a broken and beaten Black Manta being plucked out of the ocean by Park’s marine scientist, conspiracy theorist and all-round Atlantis obsessive. That’s not all, though, because a trio of new additions have also been added to the ensemble.

Jani Zhao has been cast as Stingray, a brand new character created by James Wan for the underwater blockbuster, while Indya Moore is Karshon, a psychokinetic and telepathic villain best known from the Green Lantern mythos as The Shark. Additionally, 300‘s Vincent Regan will become the third actor to play Atlan in the DCEU, following in the footsteps of Aquaman‘s Graham McTavish and Zack Snyder’s Justice League‘s Julian Lewis Jones.
Too many villains is never a good idea in superhero cinema, but it looks like Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry will have his hands full in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom now that Dr. Shin, Stingray and Shark are in the mix alongside Patrick Wilson’s jacked Vorm and Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta.

Warner Bros. Reportedly Wanted A Christian Bale Cameo In The Flash

When Michael Keaton briefly cast doubt on his involvement in The Flash before being officially confirmed for a second time, chatter instantly sprung up that Warner Bros. were seeking to line up Christian Bale as the movie’s multiversal Batman should the deal to secure Tim Burton’s Dark Knight fall through.
During that brief whirlwind of scuttlebutt we heard multiple rumors that Bale was in talks for the Scarlet Speedster’s solo debut, the studio were prepared to throw money at him to make it happen even if he would only do so should Christopher Nolan approve, but from an official standpoint nothing concrete was ever confirmed.
Of course, Batman is the only role the Academy Award winner has ever played more than once and he’s never even made a cameo appearance in anything during a career that dates back over 30 years, but insider KC Walsh recently intimated on social media that WB reportedly had a plan in place in the off-chance he could be convinced, as you can see below.
They were trying to get Bale for a scene like in X-Men first class with Wolverine but I have no idea if it actually filmed
— KC Walsh (@TheComixKid) September 19, 2021
Last I heard it wasn’t but I’ve been wrong before
— KC Walsh (@TheComixKid) September 19, 2021
Bale already turned down the opportunity for a fourth solo outing under the cape and cowl, so the chances of him showing up for a fan-baiting cameo always seemed slim. Two versions of Batman in The Flash is definitely more than enough to keep people happy, even without the star of the Dark Knight Trilogy.

Watch: Dwayne Johnson Confirms His New Superhero Movie Has Wrapped

It took a long time for Dwayne Johnson to dip his toes into the water of superhero cinema, but the world’s highest-paid actor looks to be making up for lost time.
While his long-awaited DCEU debut in Black Adam was still in production, the 49 year-old was announced to be producing and heading up the voice cast of DC League of Super-Pets, and last year he signed on to Netflix’s graphic novel adaptation Ball & Chain alongside Jungle Cruise co-star Emily Blunt.
Those three projects couldn’t be more different from each other, but it’s DC League of Super-Pets that boasts the starriest ensemble. Johnson is playing Krypto the Superdog, with support coming from Kevin Hart as Ace the Bat-Hound, and Marc Maron is on board as Lex Luthor. Their roles haven’t been disclosed as of yet, but there’s further parts for John Krasinski, Kate McKinnon, Vanessa Bayer, Natasha Lyonne, Diego Luna, Jameela Jamil and Keanu Reeves.
DC League of Super-Pets is coming to theaters on May 20th, 2022, just two months before Black Adam, with the leading man taking to Instagram and announcing that production on the former has wrapped.

Superman and Batman’s canine companions, Wonder Woman’s potbellied pig, Green Lantern’s squirrel and Flash’s turtle teaming up in a family-friendly animated blockbuster with an A-list roster in place sounds bizarre, but it also means that DC League of Super-Pets has the potential to be an absolute blast.

Steve Ditko Estate Seeking To Regain Doctor Strange And Spider-Man Copyright

It’s taken a long time for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to get where it is today, with Kevin Feige’s initial idea for a shared mythology stemming from the fact the comic book company had sold off the rights to many of its biggest characters to various studios all over Hollywood, and he wanted to follow the template set on the printed page by having a series of movies under the same roof that were tied together as one grand, sprawling saga.
Over the last decade the likes of Ghost Rider, Blade, the Defenders, the X-Men and Fantastic Four have all come home, but a spanner could potentially be thrown in the works after the estate of legendary artist Steve Ditko filed two notices of copyright termination with Disney and Marvel; specifically pertaining to Doctor Strange and Spider-Man, as per ComicBook.
Under law, creators and their heirs have the legal right to regain ownership after a certain amount of time has passed, which allows them to “share in the later economic success of their works” and “regain the previously granted copyright or copyright rights”, which in the case of the Sorcerer Supreme and Peter Parker could eventually total billions.
Marvel will no doubt cite Ditko’s work as being produced under their roof on a contractual basis, which would give them the permanent copyright and shut the family out completely. The claim cites the origin stories of both superheroes as subjects of the termination, but that would additionally extend to names such as the Ancient One, Wong, Aunt May and Uncle Ben, all famed parts of the Doctor Strange and Spider-Man lore.
As we’ve seen with Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street, Clive Barker’s The Hellbound Heart that inspired Hellraiser, Friday the 13th writer Victor Miller and Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel’s clan, the claimants can often emerge victorious. Marvel previously dismissed similar action from Jack Kirby’s family that was settled out of court, so we’ll just have to wait and see how it pans out in regards to Ditko’s Spider-Man and Doctor Strange.

2 Dwayne Johnson Movies Are Dominating Netflix Right Now

As the world’s biggest movie star, and one of a select few names capable of opening a new project strong at the box office based on nothing but the strength of their personal brand, there isn’t really much incentive for Dwayne Johnson to take his talents to the world of streaming.
After all, he’s also the highest-paid talent in the business, and a lot of that stems from profit participation deals and milestone bonuses, because very rarely do any of his action-packed blockbusters flop. However, the 49 year-old has been testing the waters of subscription-based platforms, with a quartet of recent and future projects designed to be watched at home.
Jungle Cruise did big numbers on Disney Plus Premier Access, Red Notice stands every chance of smashing Netflix’s all-time viewership records when it arrives in November, Amazon paid top dollar to acquire holiday-themed action comedy Red One and he signed on to comic book adaptation Ball & Chain opposite Emily Blunt last year.
As the current viewership charts on the planet’s most popular platform will attest, Netflix subscribers can’t get enough of Johnson’s back catalogue, so any new additions to the library are guaranteed to find success. As per FlixPatrol, Jumanji: The Next Level and Hobbs & Shaw have been residing in the Top 20 all week, and Skyscraper is only a few places behind, so audiences clearly aren’t growing tired of his onscreen exploits.

Netflix Reportedly Developing An Original Werewolf Movie

Vampires are everywhere you look on film and television these days, with a handful of projects focusing on the bloodsucking hordes of the undead always in development at any given time, but werewolves don’t tend to be subjected to the live-action treatment on a basis anywhere near as prolific.
Going back to vampires; Netflix has Night Teeth on the way just a few months after Blood Red Sky premiered, while Universal currently has Karyn Kusama, Chloe Zhao and Chris McKay all working on movies that feature Dracula in some capacity, and Showtime ordered Let the Right One In to series just a couple of days ago.
On the lycanthropic side of the equation, Leigh Whannell and Ryan Gosling are working on a new version of The Wolfman, and comedic video game adaptation Werewolves Within quietly hit theaters and VOD earlier this summer, but those are the only noteworthy projects to have arrived or entered development over the last year or so.

However, we’re hearing from our sources – the same ones who told us the platform was working on an Enola Holmes sequel long before it was confirmed – that Netflix is looking to cast a wider net when it comes to in-house horror, with an original werewolf project reportedly very near the top of the list.
Unfortunately, further information remains scarce for now, but Netflix have significantly upped their game when it comes to exclusive scary content, so the right creative team could deliver something special dependent on the premise and a commitment to going all-out on blood, guts, teeth and fur.
