Tom Hardy Asked Andy Serkis To Direct Venom: Let There Be Carnage
When it was confirmed that original director Ruben Fleischer wouldn’t be returning for the sequel that eventually became Venom: Let There Be Carnage, the search was whittled down to a shortlist of four candidates, each of whom would bring something distinctly different to the Marvel adaptation.
Sony reportedly had their eye on Snow White and the Huntsman‘s Rupert Sanders, but he didn’t make it down the final three. Bumblebee‘s Travis Knight had experience on effects-driven blockbusters, as did Rise of the Planet of the Apes‘ Rupert Wyatt, but he also had a penchant for dropping out of multiple projects shortly after signing on. Of the trio, Andy Serkis’ name was the most unexpected, although it did make a lot of sense.
He’d only directed two features, which were moving biopic Breathe and Netflix’s Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, but he’d cut his teeth helming second unit on The Hobbit trilogy, while his extensive experience pioneering performance capture speaks for itself. Ahead of Let There Be Carnage’s October 1st release, Serkis revealed that it was Tom Hardy who ultimately ended up offering him the job.
“I thought Tom gave an extraordinary performance. It was right in my wheelhouse, creating characters using CG. When Tom gave me a call out of the blue, saying he thought it would be great if I directed the sequel and asking me to come on board, I think it was because he wanted a director who would be capable of safeguarding his performance, translating it into a visual-effects realm, with some degree of authority from experience with that. We had been circling each other as actors for so many years, and it was wonderful to finally get the chance to work with Tom.”

Having ascended to the role of producer on Venom: Let There Be Carnage, as well as receiving a story credit, Hardy’s involvement in the franchise has clearly been taken to a whole other level since the opener scored $850 million at the box office three years ago. On paper, Serkis has all the credentials to be an inspired choice, and there’s no reason to doubt that he’ll deliver.

Black Adam Star Says Dwayne Johnson Is Incredible In The Movie
Dwayne Johnson is a much better actor than he often gets credit for, although you can understand why his abilities regularly come in for criticism when he essentially plays the same archetypal character over and over again, but that’s been more than enough to turn him into the most popular and highest-paid star in the industry.
As interesting as it would be to see The Rock take some more risks, actively look to prove his dramatic capabilities and dive headfirst into a project that doesn’t cost at least $100 million, his upcoming schedule indicates that the chances of that happening at any point in the near future are slim to none. However, one of his co-star’s on next summer’s Black Adam says he’s incredible in his first superhero blockbuster.
Sarah Shahi, who was most recently seen in Netflix’s headline-grabbing Sex/Life, plays Adrianna Tomaz in Jaume Collet-Serra’s comic book adaptation. In the comic books, Tomaz goes on to inherit the mantle of Isis, so the actress may end up getting some powers of her own. In a new interview, the 41 year-old teased that we should expect big things from Johnson’s performance.
“The Rock was incredible, DJ was awesome. We had an incredible cast on Black Adam. He’s super funny, he’s very professional and is incredible in this role.”
Having remained attached to the project for fifteen years, Johnson has made it abundantly clear that he’s looking to reinvent the entire genre with Black Adam. Whether he manages to accomplish that or not remains entirely up for debate, but it’s exciting for fans to know that one of the most famous faces on the planet has sank their heart and soul into the DCEU’s cosmic epic.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage Producer Tease Eddie Brock’s Ultimate Adversary
Wherever Venom goes, Carnage doesn’t tend to be too far behind. Spider-Man is also typically in the mix, but Sony’s shared Marvel universe hasn’t quite reached that stage yet, although the recent rebranding hammered home the point that it’s definitely happening sooner rather than later.
When Ruben Fleischer’s Venom was gearing up for release in 2018, many fans wondered why Riot had been chosen as the villain at the expense of Cletus Kasady’s alter ego, Eddie Brock’s most famous enemy by a massive distance. We got the answer to that question right at the end, when Woody Harrelson and his distracting wig made a surprise cameo to set up second installment Let There Be Carnage, which is now less than four weeks away from release.
Avi Arad, who knows a thing or two about overstuffing a comic book franchise with symbiotes having requested Sam Raimi include Venom in Spider-Man 3, teased that Carnage is Venom’s ultimate adversary.
“Carnage is who the fans have been waiting for, finally making his big-screen debut. He’s Venom’s ultimate adversary, stronger and more violent in every way. It doesn’t help that serial killer Cletus Kasady is Carnage’s host, enhancing his maniacal worldview into something incredibly sinister. In the comics, Carnage is Venom’s offspring, his ‘son,’ if you will, which makes the conflict between them far greater.”

While that’s probably common knowledge to anyone that’s ever picked up a Marvel issue featuring either character, general audiences might not be so clued up on the lore. After all, Venom: Let There Be Carnage isn’t part of the all-conquering Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the second chapter in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, so it doesn’t come with the same built-in awareness and cultural cache.
Fingers crossed that Arad has stayed the hell away from the production process, though, leaving the cast and crew of the movie to do their jobs completely unimpeded to the best of their abilities.

Subtlety will not be the order of the day when Andy Serkis’ blockbuster comes to theaters in less than four weeks, and Tom Hardy has been lavishing praise on his opposite number from both a personal and professional perspective.

If the trailers have been any indication, Harrelson isn’t just going to chew on the scenery in Venom: Let There Be Carnage, but devour it whole. Even those that didn’t care much for the first installment will surely have their curiosity piqued by watching a pair of powerhouse actors go toe-to-toe in an effort to see who can deliver the most unhinged performance.

Robert Pattinson Reportedly Wants To Appear In The Batman Spinoffs
Having signed a first-look development and production deal with Warner Bros., New Line Cinema, Warner Bros Television and HBO Max earlier this year, we can expect Robert Pattinson to be appearing in his fair share of WarnerMedia-branded content over the coming years.
Having recently appeared in the studio’s Christopher Nolan blockbuster Tenet before jumping straight into The Batman, he’s already well-versed in how WB operates, which stands him in good stead for the future. The actor will be sticking around as the Dark Knight for the foreseeable future if everything goes to plan, but his presence might not be solely restricted to the big screen.
We’re hearing from our sources – the same ones who told us Ben Affleck would be returning as the Caped Crusader in The Flash long before it was confirmed – that Pattinson reportedly wants to show up in whatever spinoffs end up emanating from The Batman, of which many have been rumored.

As things stand, the HBO Max series focusing on the Gotham City Police Department is the only one officially on the docket, and the show takes place prior to the events of The Batman, although that doesn’t rule out a cameo or two from billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne by any means.
Zoë Kravitz’s Catwoman has also been linked with her own solo project, and seeing as Pattinson has a deal in place with the company, it would make both narrative and contractual sense for him to drop by wherever possible.
