A Forgotten Liam Neeson Movie Is Finding New Life On Netflix
The Liam Neeson action thriller has become a subgenre unto itself ever since the veteran character actor reinvented himself as the industry’s premiere grizzled badass in Taken thirteen years ago, and he still shows no signs of slowing down, even though he turns 70 next year.
In fact, despite claiming more than once that he was retiring from running and gunning, Neeson has at least another four actioners in the works and set for release before the end of 2022, which comes after he headlined Honest Thief, The Marksman and The Ice Road within the space of eight months.
The star’s back catalogue can also be relied on to find a new lease of life on Netflix, with several entries from his recent filmography managing to crack the streaming service’s most-watched list. The latest is Non-Stop, the 2014 airborne effort that marked his second of four collaborations with director Jaume Collet-Serra.
Neeson plays Air Marshal Bill Marks, who views his weary existence as the disappointing end to a long career. However, things kick up a notch or ten when he received a series of mysterious text messages during a flight to London, instructing him that a passenger will die every 20 minutes unless a $150 million ransom is met.
A combination of standard Neeson fare and action-packed whodunnit set in the skies is an interesting cocktail that puts a fresh spin on the Academy Award nominee’s project of choice, even if the third act completely abandons any semblance of reality. Of course, it was a hit at the box office because Non-Stop had late-career Neeson doing what he does best, and it’s put in a strong showing on Netflix this weekend to crack the platform’s Top 20.

Kevin Feige Reveals Audiences Thought There Were Pokémon In Shang-Chi
With one foot rooted in family drama and the other planted firmly in the heightened reality of the comic book genre, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings possesses plenty of wild tonal shifts throughout the narrative, especially during a third act climax that dives into full-blown fantasy territory.
The crux of the plot is a father and his two children split apart by a death in the family, one that sets each of them on a very different path. However, there’s also a scene where an electric car drives through a magic forest via instructions relayed by a furry critter named Morris that doesn’t have a face, so it can often be jarring.
When our intrepid band of heroes pitch up in the mysterious and mythical realm of Ta Lo, they’re instantly greeted by a bevvy of otherworldly creatures, many of which resemble real-world animals, but obviously not the sort you’d expect to find in a David Attenborough documentary. In a new interview, Kevin Feige revealed that some audiences even thought the Marvel Cinematic Universe had done the unthinkable and made Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings a Pokémon crossover.
“The only thing that’s surprised me in early reactions, and I don’t know if this has been online, but it was in some of the early screenings, a lot of the reference points, some people think there are a couple of Pokémon characters in there. They’re not Pokémon characters, but they are inspired by similar things, I guess, which took me by surprise.”

Of course, modern audiences are hardly going to be well-versed in the lore of Eastern mythology, which is presumably why the Pokémon connection was the first thing that came to mind. That being said, Marvel could be onto a winner if they ever decided to create a Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings tie-in video game that riffs on the classic Nintendo series, following a resident of Ta Lo as they track down all of the magical beasts found in the wilderness.

Disney Reportedly Wants A Margot Robbie Pirates Of The Caribbean Trilogy
Hollywood probably doesn’t want you to know this, but not every blockbuster designed to launch a franchise has to be viewed as the first part of a trilogy. It’s perfectly fine for a big budget genre film to tell a complete story with a beginning, middle and end, without having to rely on sequel-baiting teases and cliffhanger endings that set up second or third installments that aren’t guaranteed to happen until the box office numbers come in.
Gore Verbinski’s Pirates of the Caribbean was initially viewed as a standalone project, if only for the fact the swashbuckling subgenre was dead in the water due to Cutthroat Island flopping so hard in 1995 that it bankrupted an entire studio, while the theme park adaptation boasted little star power and was seen as a massive gamble on Disney’s part right up until opening weekend.
However, we’re now hearing from our sources – the same ones who told us Riri Williams would debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever long before it was confirmed – that the Mouse House is already hoping that Birds of Prey duo Margot Robbie and Christina Hodson’s Pirates of the Caribbean spinoff marks the beginning of a multi-film series.
That sounds awfully ambitious at such an early stage, especially when there’s been no more concrete news on the project since it was first announced. Not only that, but there’s no guarantee that audiences would even be willing to accept a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie without Johnny Depp’s involvement, so this is definitely an example of where things would be much better served taken one at a time.
