China reportedly orders TikTok owner ByteDance to remove Feishu workplace app

The Chinese government has ordered ByteDance to take down its Feishu workplace messaging tool from app stores in China for a month because it let users access posts from Facebook and Twitter, which are banned in the country, Bloomberg reported. ByteDance, which also operates the social media app TikTok, developed Feishu as an internal app, then marketed it for business use in 2019. An international version of the app, called Lark, launched in April 2019 and is still operating in markets like Japan and Singapore.

Chris Hemsworth Says Extraction Was The Most Exhausting Movie Of His Career

Chris Hemsworth’s new action movie Extraction only dropped on Netflix yesterday, but it already seems to have grabbed the public’s imagination in a big way. Fans have been giving it huge praise on social media, and with millions of people around the world still facing restrictions on movement due to the Coronavirus pandemic, it looks set to rack up a massive number of viewers and become another huge hit for the streaming platform.

While there’s nothing particularly groundbreaking or original about Extraction from a narrative standpoint, with the script marking both Joe Russo’s first solo screenplay credit and the first for either of the brothers since 2002’s Welcome to Collinwood, the movie lives and breathes by the action sequences, with director Sam Hargrave following in the footsteps of John Wick’s David Leitch and Chad Stahelski by making the transition from stunt coordinator to orchestrator of expertly-choreographed set-pieces look easy.

It also marks Hemsworth’s first genuine attempt at playing an old-school action hero, with the actor in almost every frame and forced to bear the brunt of the hard-hitting and brutally violent fights that make up almost the entirety of Extraction’s 117 minute running time. Unsurprisingly, the Thor star admitted in a recent interview that the intricate nature of the wall-to-wall action made it the most exhausting role of his entire career.

“I didn’t want to just do a straight-up action film. I wanted to do action unlike anything I’d ever done before, which this required. It was a level of complexity and exhaustion that was very new.”

The 36 year-old is no stranger to getting his hands dirty in fight scenes, but his signature role in the MCU, along with the short-lived Huntsman franchise and Men in Black: International, allowed the visual effects team to pick up a lot of the slack, but there’s nowhere for the leading man to hide in a gritty mid-budget actioner like Extraction.

AMC Theatres Likely To Remain Closed Until July

The coronavirus’s impact on the entertainment industry has already been significant, including the delay of many planned theatrical releases and the indefinite closure of theme parks and cinemas. AMC Theatres have now announced that it’s unlikely they’ll be reopening their venues until at least July. However, this isn’t just to do with the open-ended questions about the lockdown, but for the fact there won’t be any major releases to screen and bring in audiences.

Of course, there are plenty of independent and older pictures that could be used to fill empty slots, but it seems that AMC aren’t ready to gamble on them without tentpole releases to bring in the summer crowds. An AMC spokesperson had this to say about their current thinking:

“As we plan our reopening, the health and safety of our guests and associates is our absolute highest priority. To be able to open, we also need a line of sight into a regular schedule of new theatrical blockbusters that get people truly excited about returning to their favorite movie theatres.”

AMC’s statement also references that the theatrical season should resume around Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, and the already-delayed live-action Mulan from Disney. In addition, they might start programming with previously released and popular titles, but only seemingly in advance of the big-name movies that should, barring any more delays, represent a truncated summer blockbuster schedule.

The decision certainly makes sense, given the precarious financial situation of AMC right now, and the risk of reopening its doors without sure-fire moneymakers. While the company did experience a shares spike last week, they are also having to deal with landlords suing the chain for failing to meet rent demands. Indeed, some business analysts have claimed that the AMC chain might never reopen, having already been in major financial difficulty before COVID-19.

Although the future of a corporate movie chain is unlikely to be top of people’s worries for failing businesses, the loss of one of our most recognizable brands would compound what has already been a devastating year for the entertainment industry. Here’s hoping that AMC Theatres and other chains are able to recover, and that traditional moviegoing won’t continue to slide in favor of home streaming.

2022 Will See 5 MCU Movies Released In A Year For The First Time Ever

Another day, another tale of a major Hollywood studio reshuffling their highest-profile projects due to the ongoing uncertainty due to the Coronavirus pandemic, except this time there’s a certain sense of deja vu. It was only a little over three weeks ago that Marvel initially announced that the entire slate of Phase Four movies were being delayed, and yesterday brought the news that the timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was being delayed yet again.

There was increasingly little chance that Spider-Man 3 was ever going to start production in July as initially intended, and Jon Watts’ threequel was officially moved to November, taking the date that was initially staked out for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which has now been pushed to March 2022. On the plus side, we’re now getting Thor: Love and Thunder a week ahead of schedule, but that likely won’t be enough to placate the fans who were already heartbroken at having to wait even longer to see the MCU’s post-Endgame world take shape.

Black Widow is still scheduled for November, meaning we’re only getting one new MCU movie in a calendar year for the first time since 2012, before Marvel Studios reverts to their usual business model by dropping three comic book blockbusters in 2021, including two new properties for the first time in a decade.

That means 2022 is shaping up to be a banner year for MCU fans, with Thor: Love and Thunder, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Black Panther II and Captain Marvel 2 all set to hit theaters in the space of five months. Not only that, but the studio also has an unconfirmed movie pegged for release in October, meaning that for the first time ever the franchise is dropping five new movies in a single year.

While they haven’t announced what it is yet, Ant-Man 3 seems the most likely possibility given that Guardians of the Galaxy’s James Gunn will be busy with The Suicide Squad until next summer, but at least Marvel will be making it up to their most patient fans in 2022 by releasing a ton of new content.
