Instagram will test hiding likes in the US as soon as next week

Instagram has been running tests where it hides like counts on posts in seven different countries around the world, and very soon, it will start testing hiding them for some US users as well. Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri made the announcement today at the WIRED25 conference.
In tests that have rolled out so far, likes are hidden from public posts in the Feed, on the web, and in profiles. However, you should still be able to see how many likes a post gets — it’s only other people that won’t be able to.

Sony Developing Venom And Morbius Crossover Movie
Sony may have already abandoned two Spider-Man franchises of their own, and threatened to derail a third following their much-publicized dispute with Marvel Studios over the future of the iconic superhero, but the studio still seem desperately keen to establish a Spidey-adjacent cinematic universe.
Tom Holland’s Peter Parker may be officially set to continue on as one of the MCU’s key players, but the new deal between Sony and Marvel also allows the actor to appear in movies for both studios, and there’s little doubt that the former will be keen to milk that particular cash cow for all it’s worth. However, they can’t rely on Spider-Man alone, and following Venom‘s mammoth box office haul a couple of years ago, Sony finally have a bankable comic book franchise based on another character.
Venom 2 is already well into pre-production, with Andy Serkis set to direct and Woody Harrelson reprising his post-credits role as Eddie Brock’s arch-nemesis Carnage and now, sources close to We Got This Covered – the same ones who told us that a new Scream movie was happening, which was confirmed this week – have informed us that Sony are already planning some high-profile superhero crossover events of their own.
The Jared Leto-starring Morbius hits theaters several months before Venom 2, with reports indicating that the symbiotic antihero is set to make a cameo appearance in it, and according to our intel, the studio is keen to have the two characters cross paths at some point in a future movie. If this all seems like they’re intent on directly copying the MCU’s formula and hoping for similar results, that’s because this is exactly what it is.
As is the case with any crossover film, we’ve heard that Morbius and Venom will begin as adversaries before uniting to take down a common foe. The details on this potential project end there, but with Sony’s own Marvel Universe banking heavily on the success of Morbius in order to give Venom some support as a viable franchise, it would make total sense for the two to team up and make the most of their potential box office appeal. And as soon as we learn more about what the studio’s got planned, we’ll definitely let you know.

Dan Aykroyd Confirms Original Cast Returning In Ghostbusters 3
Hey, have you checked on your pumpkins lately? How are they looking? Halloween season may be over, but we’re still getting spooky news well over a week later. That’s right, living ghoul Dan Aykroyd confirmed that himself, Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts will all be back in Ghostbusters 3, playing their original characters once again. Which also confirms We Got This Covered’s scoop from the other day, where we reported that our sources had told us Murray would be back.
The former Conehead sat down with the Massachusetts-based internet radio show The Greg Hill Show to talk aliens, Boston and, of course, Ghostbusters 3. While confirming the cast’s return – and forgetting to mention that Ernie Hudson is also coming back – he said this of the film:
“Jason Reitman wrote a beautiful, heartfelt script that takes the real DNA from the first two movies and transfers that directly to the third, the next generation. It hands the legacy off to a new generation of stars, and players, and actors, and characters.”
This seems to confirm a lot of fan theories that the oldies are gonna find some youngsters to make the new Ghostbusters. Even though Paul Rudd’s 50 years old (HOW?), he’s slated to be a new ‘buster, with his character having a background in seismology and teaching. Finn Wolfhard, meanwhile, is one of the most popular teen actors today, and we could always use a new snark machine on the team, ya know? Also, Carrie Coon is one of the best actresses around. Talk about a stacked cast.
It’s more than just about entering in the new age, though; it seems like the film’s going to celebrate the accomplishments of the past, too, according to Aykroyd.
“It’s gonna be scary, it’s gonna be thought-provoking, it’s gonna be very heartfelt…You’ll feel it, if you have loved ones that you miss and that you’ve lost, and you want to get back with. It’ll be very evocative that way.”
Although his last few movies haven’t been as well received as one would hope, Jason Reitman seems like a guy who could possibly pull off a balance like that. In any case, I certainly hope that Aykroyd’s “heartfelt” statement is true, and I really hope Ghostbusters 3 is more than one last cash grab. Finn Wolfhard says it is, and he’s cool, so we should trust him, right?

Oppo’s Reno Ace really does have the fastest fast charging
Last month Oppo announced its latest flagship phone, the Reno Ace, with a headline feature of the world’s fastest fast-charge solution yet. Oppo’s 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 fast charger is claimed to be able to charge the Reno Ace’s 4,000mAh battery in half an hour, which would put it ahead of all other competing technology on the market.
I have the Reno Ace in hand now, and I can confirm that it is indeed the fastest-charging phone available — if not quite as fast as Oppo’s claims.
Two minutes and 39 seconds after plugging the Reno Ace in, the screen turned on to indicate a one-percent charge. Here’s how it went over the next half-hour:

Disney Pushing Brie Larson For Oscar Consideration For Avengers: Endgame
For your consideration… Avengers: Endgame, a superhero epic unlike anything we’ve ever seen before.
Yes, with awards season quickly creeping up now, Disney and Marvel Studios have begun to position Endgame as a legitimate Oscar contender. And while The Academy won’t reveal their 2020 nominees until the beginning of next year – January 13th, to be exact – Kevin Feige and co. have big hopes for the Joe and Anthony Russo-directed blockbuster.
Already, we knew that they were pushing it in categories such as Best Costume Design, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing, Best Director and Best Picture, but earlier today they also threw almost the entire main cast into the conversation as well, choosing to put forth the core ensemble for consideration for some Oscar gold.
In particular, here’s who they’ve suggested for each category:

While some of these folks do deserve at least a nod for their hard work, it’s certainly a bit surprising to see Brie Larson on this list. After all, Disney didn’t put her up for Captain Marvel and in Endgame, she barely even did anything. True, she lent a hand to the heroes in a few tight spots, but she was hardly an important part of the overall narrative and basically disappeared for the majority of the film after the first few scenes.
In any case, whether you believe some of these individuals are deserving of Oscar gold or not, acting in comic book movies isn’t usually recognized by the Academy, so it’s unlikely that Avengers: Endgame will find itself coming up in conversation for either the Best Supporting Actor or Best Supporting Actress category. Still, we wouldn’t count it out for some of the technical awards and regardless of who walks home with a golden statue on the big night, the real winner here is Disney, who got to sit back and watch as the MCU blockbuster climbed right to the top of the box office to become the highest grossing film in history.

Thunderbolts Is Now In Early Development At Marvel
The Thunderbolts have long been a team that Marvel fans want to see in the MCU. For those unfamiliar with the concept, they’re essentially the Marvel version of the Suicide Squad – a group of villains and anti-heroes pressed into service for the greater good by General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. With the franchise amassing a whole lot of supercrimials and crooks over the past decade, it would make sense to bring the Thunderbolts to the screen in the next few years. And it looks like that’s indeed the plan.
MCU Cosmic’s Jeremy Conrad is reporting that a Thunderbolts project is now in early development at Marvel Studios. Conrad’s unable to ascertain whether this will take the form of a movie or a Disney Plus TV show, but either way, the studio is said to be pressing ahead with adapting the team for the MCU, though they may take a few years to materialize.
Of course, We Got This Covered was the first outlet to tell you about a Thunderbolts project back in April and now, MCU Cosmic has seemingly confirmed our scoop. And while details beyond that remain hazy, it’s expected that the studio will bring back William Hurt as Ross to head up the task force. Remember, Ross is due to appear for a cameo in Black Widow, which is said to feature him recruiting for his gang. He may also become Red Hulk in the She-Hulk show, which again would set up Thunderbolts.
Just a few familiar faces who’d be good fits for the squad include Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell), the Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) and Zemo (Daniel Bruhl), who’ll be back in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. And there’ll be even more foes to choose from by the time the project’s with us. It’s still early, early days of course, but we imagine that once the next Phase gets underway we’ll start to learn more about what Marvel has planned for the team, so stay tuned.

Marvel Says You’ll Need Disney Plus To Fully Understand The MCU Now
It may seem strange these days given how the Marvel Cinematic Universe is well and truly established as the biggest franchise in the entire industry, with many of their competitors still scrambling to play catch up, but when Marvel Studios first launched in 2008 the idea of a series of blockbuster movies being connected by a single overarching narrative was an unprecedented business strategy.
Each entry in the MCU is connected to at least one previous installment in some form or another, which made it a surefire way to guarantee success at the box office, because if fans want to fully understand the entire story they’d have to pay to see every movie. However, that doesn’t seem to be enough for Kevin Feige, with the recently-appointed Chief Creative Officer now admitting that the huge number of newly-announced shows set to debut on Disney Plus will tie so closely into the stories being told on the big screen that it will almost be a necessity to purchase a subscription to the new streaming service in order to fully understand the bigger picture.
A recent report went into some detail on how closely the movies and TV shows within the MCU will tie together, and it certainly sounds like diehard fans of the franchise are virtually obligated to shell out for Disney Plus.
“If you want to understand everything in future Marvel movies, Feige says you’ll probably need a Disney Plus subscription, because events from the new shows will factor into forthcoming films such as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The Scarlet Witch will be a key character in that movie, and Feige points out that the Loki series will tie in, too.”
On one hand, this is a smart business strategy from Disney and Marvel, one that will generate a huge amount of income on top of the countless billions that the MCU brings in from theaters on an annual basis. On the other, it seems like a highly cynical cash-grabbing ploy that comes dangerously close to pressuring fans into purchasing a subscription just to stay on top of the latest developments in the franchise. But with the Mouse House now seemingly intent on monopolizing all of popular culture, this shouldn’t come as a surprise.
