Walmart sells ModCloth just two years after buying it
Walmart is selling off women’s clothing company and online retailer ModCloth, just two years after acquiring it. The brand will now be a part of investment firm Go Global Retail, though it will continue to operate independently.
“We expect they will continue in the same direction as before,” Christian Feuer, managing director of Go Global Retail, told The Verge. “I don’t think the customer will see a change. If they do, I hope they’ll be happy with what they see.”

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Leak May Reveal How Kylo Meets Palpatine
Ever since we first heard his laugh at the end of the first trailer that released back in April, we’ve been left to wonder how exactly Emperor Palpatine fits into the narrative of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The incoming trailer for Episode IX may just reveal his introduction in the movie, as well as who it is that first discovers he’s still alive. At least, that’s according to this new leak.
Making Star Wars has a history of sharing reliable scoops about the saga, and in their latest video they outline a scene that’s apparently due to be featured in the new trailer. MSW’s Jason Ward claims that Kylo Ren is the first to encounter the former Emperor.
The clip will see the Supreme Leader of the First Order meeting a mysterious old man sitting in what appears to be a “cross-vertical med chair that he’s strapped into.” Kylo will try to kill him with his lightsaber, but Palpatine is unfazed and said to laugh at him – the laugh from the first trailer perhaps? – and makes his identity known.
If we can trust this info, then this adds up with other leaks that have come our way in the past. We Got This Covered has previously reported that Darth Sidious will attempt to take Kylo under his wing in Rise, with aims to coax Rey over to the Dark Side, too. What’s more, Palpatine being plugged into some sort of life-support also could confirm our scoop that the villain never actually died in Return of the Jedi and has been recovering in hiding all this time.
A tweet from the official SW Twitter account has got fans wondering if the trailer will be with us on October 14th. Even if that’s not the case, the pattern established by the previous two movies in the sequel trilogy suggests it’ll drop sometime this month. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker arrives in full on December 20th.

Google has suspended its controversial ‘field research’ that allegedly scanned homeless people
Illustration by Alex Castro / The Verge
Less than two weeks ahead of the Pixel 4 flagship smartphone’s debut, Google is reportedly pulling the plug on a controversial “field research” program that offered subjects in US cities a $5 gift certificate in exchange for a scan of their face — after a New York Daily News report that one Google contracting agency was actively targeting homeless people in Atlanta and tricking unwitting college students into participating.
Originally, the company told us, the idea was to make sure the Pixel 4’s new Face Unlock feature would recognize a diverse array of faces, which could keep it from being biased against people of color — a legitimate concern for facial recognition tech.

Federal judge says nobody cares about the iPhone’s notch
The iPhone’s notch may not be the prettiest thing in the world, but there’s now a lawsuit over it, which alleges that Apple’s advertised screen size and resolution for the iPhone X, XS, and XS Max count pixels that aren’t actually there due to the notch. A federal judge hearing the case, in an all-time great quote, thinks this may not be a big deal: “There doesn’t really seem to be anyone in America who seems to be concerned about it,” he said, according to Law360.
Apple argues that it already explains how it measures screen size on its packaging, according to Law360, and has been trying to get the case dismissed since March. The plaintiffs are hoping to make it into a nationwide class-action lawsuit, but it hasn’t been certified yet —...

Why Joker Was Missing From The Birds Of Prey Trailer
The new Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) trailer has finally dropped and it promises to put Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn character front and center of an all-female lineup of heroes and villains from DC Comics, including Huntress, Renee Montoya and Black Canary. One character missing from the preview though, despite being mentioned more than once, is Harley’s boyfriend the Joker, played by Jared Leto and arguably the most famous supervillain in all of comics. But there might be a good reason for his absence.
For one, Todd Phillips’ origin film for the character is headed to theaters this week and doesn’t feature Leto but rather, an entirely different take on the character. Comic-savvy viewers might be able to distinguish between the two wildly different iterations of the same villain, but regular audiences would only be confused. The Joker movie needs all the eyeballs it can get to battle the controversies surrounding the film and it makes sense to hold off on any appearances by other versions of the Clown Prince of Crime while it’s still in theaters.
There’s also the fact that Birds of Prey is about Harley and her female cohorts, with the Joker appearing in a cameo at best. The last time a cameo for Mr. J was endlessly hyped was for Suicide Squad and the trailers for that film gave audiences the wrong impression that he was a central character in the movie, leading to disappointment when the actual flick came out.
Warner Bros. clearly wants to avoid a repeat of that mistake and in all likelihood, if at all the Joker shows up in Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), the appearance will be kept under wraps until the audiences discover the cameo for themselves while sitting in the theater watching it. Whether the character will be played by Leto, however, or just a body double, is another question entirely.
