Dave Bautista Reportedly Wants A Role In Suicide Squad 3

Dave Bautista has been shouting from the rooftops about how Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will mark his final outing as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Drax the Destroyer, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be giving up on the comic book genre entirely.

After all, the former professional wrestler admitted that his decision is largely motivated by a combination of having to spend hours in the makeup chair before he can even set foot on set, where he proceeds to remain shirtless for the majority of the entire shoot. By the time Vol. 3 arrives in May 2023 he’ll be 54 years old, so you can understand why the hassle isn’t really going to be worth it much longer.

Bautista revealed that he turned down a role written specifically for him by James Gunn in The Suicide Squad in order to take top billing in Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead instead, but we’re hearing from our sources – the same ones who told us a Justice League Dark show was in the works for HBO Max long before it was announced with J.J. Abrams at the helm – that he could yet end up playing a part in any potential third outing for Task Force X.

The Suicide Squad may have under-performed commercially even by the standards of the pandemic era, but both Gunn and Warner Bros. are keen to continue their working relationship. The filmmaker is known to be very close with Bautista, so if he ends up getting another bite at the cherry and we see the dysfunctional band of misfits, criminals and murderers brought back for another deadly mission, then it definitely can’t be ruled out that we might end up seeing him as a member of the roster.

Disney Reportedly Wants To Release 2 Star Wars Movies Every Year

After The Force Awakens exploded into theaters to become the first movie in history not directed by James Cameron to earn over $2 billion at the box office, you could almost hear Disney and Lucasfilm rubbing their hands in glee once they realized that Star Wars was back in a bigger way than they could have ever imagined.

Initially, the plan was for the studio to debut a new blockbuster set in a galaxy far, far away on an annual basis, with Anthology spinoffs premiering in alternate years. Once Rogue One garnered critical acclaim and sailed past a billion dollars globally, it looked as though the expansion plans were a masterstroke of marketing and maximizing the potential of the brand.

The honeymoon period ended once The Last Jedi split opinion down the middle while going on to earn $700 million less than its predecessor, before Solo bombed outright and ended the Anthology idea forever. There’s a trio of feature films from Patty Jenkins, Taika Waititi and Kevin Feige all in development as we speak and slated for release in 2023, 2025 and 2027, but we’re hearing from our sources – the same ones who told us Ahsoka Tano would cameo in The Mandalorian‘s second season long before Rosario Dawson was cast – that the Mouse House could be planning to ramp things up once again.

Having failed already with the annual model just four movies in, it would be awfully foolish for Disney and Lucasfilm to try the exact same thing all over again and increase the level of content without clear plans or goals in mind, especially when there’s a slew of Disney Plus content on the way to tide us over. Of course, it’s a financially-driven business at the end of the day, and fans would be thrilled to get a new Star Wars epic every twelve months on the condition the quality was there to justify the quantity.

Big Mortal Kombat News Reportedly Coming Soon

Ever since the Mortal Kombat reboot was released at the end of April, fans have been waiting on tenterhooks to discover what the future holds for the fantasy martial arts action franchise. $83 million at the box office on a $55 million budget isn’t a spectacular return, but a lot more theaters were closed when Simon McQuoid’s feature length directorial debut hit theaters.

Although concrete data has never been made available, third-party aggregators claimed the video game adaptation was a massive success on HBO Max that even comfortably outstripped James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad in terms of viewership, while a WarnerMedia exec describing Mortal Kombat as a “top asset” was also a hugely encouraging sign.

One worrying point is that Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds confirmed Disney had been in touch regarding sequels to Jungle Cruise and Free Guy less than a week after they premiered, but it’s been four months and counting without a peep on how Warner Bros. are planning to continue the Mortal Kombat mythology.

However, we’re now hearing from our sources – the same ones who told us Ben Affleck was returning as Batman in The Flash long before it was confirmed – that some big news on the future of the Mortal Kombat universe isn’t too far away, although specifics remain thin on the ground beyond that.

It could be a feature length sequel, HBO Max episodic spinoffs, the announcement of an entire shared universe or something else entirely, but fans won’t care as long as they get nailed-down confirmation that we haven’t seen the last of the R-rated Mortal Kombat that was lauded by many as the best video game movie ever.

Robert Pattinson Reportedly Wants Big Pay Rise For The Batman Sequel

Hollywood stars make more for a single movie than the majority of us will ever see in our lifetimes, but that didn’t stop some fans from voicing their surprise at Robert Pattinson’s pay packet for rebooting one of pop culture’s most recognizable and beloved icons as the leading man of Matt Reeves’ The Batman.

$3 million is admittedly almost double what Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and Tom Holland made for Iron Man, Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor and Spider-Man: Homecoming combined, but when Daniel Craig signs a $100 million deal for a pair of Knives Out sequels and Denzel Washington nets $40 million despite The Little Things bombing, it’s not a ludicrous sum for such a high profile role.

Naturally, should The Batman find success at the box office then Pattinson will earn a significant amount of cash through profit participation and milestone bonuses, but we’re hearing from our sources – the same ones who told us Jared Leto’s Joker was getting a brand new look for Zack Snyder’s Justice League long before it was confirmed – that the 35 year-old is already seeking a substantial increase for any sequels.

Not to use the RDJ comparison too much, but once Iron Man hit big he saw his upfront takings rise from $500,000 to $10 million for Iron Man 2, so Pattinson could realistically expect to be included in the eight-figure club should The Batman perform in line with studio expectations. He’s also recently signed a first-look development deal with WarnerMedia for both film and television projects, so it can’t be ruled out that he might take a more hands-on role behind the camera as the franchise develops, which in turn would boost his personal coffers.
