Fast & Furious 10 Coming To Theaters In April 2023

While the pandemic stopped the movie from reaching the billion-dollar heights we’ve come to expect from the series, the ninth installment in the Fast & Furious franchise is far and away the most commercially successful Hollywood blockbuster to have been released since the end of 2019, and it’s now closing in on a global haul of $700 million.

To put that into perspective, Godzilla vs. Kong is in second place on the pandemic-era charts, yet it’s lagging over $200 million behind the latest adventure for Dominic Toretto and the crew. Having seen F9 delayed for fourteen months, director Justin Lin and the gang clearly aren’t wasting any time to bring audiences the grand finale, with Fast & Furious 10 having staked out a release date of April 7th, 2023.

It’ll mark the penultimate chapter in The Fast Saga, with Lin also helming the eleventh installment, which we can probably assume will arrive in 2025. Then again, Fast 10 and 11 will shoot back-to-back as one mammoth production that’s set to travel all over the globe, so we might well end up getting the final outings for the family in consecutive years.

Based on where F9 ended up, we can gather that Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw will play a substantial part in the narrative, while John Cena’s Jakob Toretto looks to have been given a free pass for his nefarious deeds, because it’s really all about family in the end. As the swansong for one of cinema’s biggest-ever brands, Fast & Furious 10 will no doubt assemble an all-star lineup from the mythology’s past and present, with the obvious exception of Dwayne Johnson.

We’ve said this before, but fingers crossed they end up calling it Fast 10 Your Seat Belts for no other reason that it would fit the property’s awesomely nonsensical titling methods down to a tee.

Sylvester Stallone Confirms Expendables Spinoff Shoots In October

For a long time, it felt as though we’d seen the last of The Expendables, Sylvester Stallone’s troupe of aging action heroes who starred in a trilogy of old school blockbusters that combined to earn a shade over $800 million at the box office. After all, the decision to make the third installment PG-13 was a massive mistake, and matters weren’t helped by a pristine copy leaking online weeks ahead of release.

For the last seven years we’ve occasionally heard tell of The Expendables 4, mostly from Randy Couture, but talk of any potential spinoffs or female-driven effort The Expendabelles fell by the wayside. Until now, that is. As you can see below, Stallone recently took to social media to reveal a highly detailed tattoo one fan has of the actor’s Barney Ross, and he confirmed a new installment will begin shooting in October.

The bad news for some fans is that it’s not going to be The Expendables 4, but A Christmas Story has been teased before. As you may have guessed, the concept focuses more on a solo adventure for Jason Statham’s Lee Christmas as opposed to a standard ensemble film, but early last year it was reported that Disturbia, Eagle Eye and xXx: The Return of Xander Cage director DJ Caruso was being sought to helm the project, with a script from Max Adams.

There’s no word on whether or not the aforementioned talent remains attached, but in effect what we’re getting is a Jason Statham action thriller set within the confines of The Expendables universe, which is something that the fanbase will happily settle for if they’re not going to get a true fourth entry in the main series that gets the entire band back together.

WandaVision And Black Panther Stars Teaming Up For Amazon Action Comedy

The Marvel Cinematic Universe features so many stars that they’re inevitably going to cross paths with each other outside the confines of Kevin Feige’s franchise, and now two actors with very different roles in the MCU are set to team up for a brand new action comedy.

Randall Park, who debuted as Jimmy Woo in Ant-Man and the Wasp before becoming a genuine cult hero thanks to his winning performance in WandaVision, has signed to co-star with Black Panther‘s Sterling K. Brown in an untitled effort that’s set up at Amazon Studios. Brown was only in the Best Picture nominee for a few minutes, but he was integral to the plot after his death inspired Killmonger’s entire arc.

He also happens to be a phenomenal actor with two Emmys and a Golden Globe under his belt, while Park is no slouch himself having lent his talents to a string of comedy hits and big budget blockbusters alike. Watchmen co-writer Alex Tse will handle script, which is described as being in a similar style to Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte’s 1982 classic 48 Hrs., widely lauded as the launchpad for the entire buddy action comedy subgenre as we know it.

Sterling K. Brown

The two leads play childhood friends who find themselves not just estranged, but working on opposite sides of the law. Of course, they’re thrown back together after being framed for a murder, sending them on the run to try and clear their names while also unraveling a criminal conspiracy.

The setup is fairly standard, but Brown and Park are both fantastic at what they do, so we can expect sparks to fly whenever the project gets an official title and a start date for production.

Amber Heard Fails To Get Johnny Depp Defamation Lawsuit Thrown Out

The courtroom battles between warring ex-spouses Johnny Depp and Amber Heard are far from over, and even though the former Pirates of the Caribbean and Fantastic Beasts star lamented the industry’s decision to boycott him, the actor has scored a significant win in the latest chapter of the never-ending saga.

Two years ago, Depp launched a $50 million defamation lawsuit against Heard, who not only responded with a $100 million counterclaim, but sought to have the initial action against her dismissed based on the fact Depp came out on the losing end of his libel trail opposite British tabloid The Sun.

The Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom actress moved in April to have the case thrown out due to the outcome in the libel proceedings, believing she was well-positioned to succeed after he also lost out on trying to have the verdict overturned on appeal. As you can read below, Fairfax County Chief Judge Penney Azcarate released a statement outlining her decision to disagree.

“The Court is not persuaded by Defendant’s argument that Plaintiff had a full and fair opportunity to litigate the UK Action. Defendant was not a part in the UK action and was not treated as one, because she was not named a defendant, she was not subject to the same discovery rules applicable to named parties. In fact, Defendant could not have been a named defendant to the UK litigation because her allegedly defamatory statements were made after the UK action commence. Defendant argues she was in privity with The Sun because they both had the same interest in the case. However, for privity to exist, Defendant’s interest in the case must be so identical with The Sun‘s interest such that The Sun’s representation of its interest is also a representation of Defendant’s legal right,”

That’s an awful lot of legal jargon to sift through, but the long and short if the situation is that it’s a win for Johnny Depp, and his second in a matter of weeks after a New York judge decreed that he could conduct a determination on whether or not Heard actually donated part of her $7 million divorce settlement to the American Civil Liberties Union as she’d claimed.

There’s yet another war brewing between the former couple that’s set to kick off in Virginia beginning April 2022, and while Depp will no doubt be buoyed by scoring two small victories in quick succession, based on what’s unfolded so far, it would be safe to assume that the end is still nowhere near in sight.

Jurassic World: Dominion Director Reveals Hilarious Dinosaur Request

The first two installments in the Jurassic World trilogy both introduced a brand new hybrid dinosaur into the mix, specifically designed and engineered by Dr. Henry Wu and his team. Naturally, the Indominous Rex and Indoraptor ended up going rogue and killing an awful lot of people, but that’s hardly going to dissuade the franchise’s erstwhile villain from trying it all over again.

The ending of Fallen Kingdom set Colin Trevorrow’s Dominion on a unique narrative path, now that dinosaurs are roaming the wilds and presumably making things very difficult for everyone and everything around them as they look to return to the top of the food chain for the first time in 65 million years.

That’s set to result in an all-star lineup of Jurassic Park and World talent being assembled, with returning stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard being joined by the original trio of Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, who aren’t here to simply show up for a fan-baiting cameo and then disappear from the story.

Plot details remain under lock and key for now, but Tevorrow recently took to social media and revealed that he keeps getting pitched a brand new hybrid dinosaur by none other than Phil Lord, one half of the filmmaking duo behind Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, The LEGO Movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and more, which you can check out below.

While it’s very unlikely that Trevorrow will give Lord what he wants, it’d be pretty funny if he did, not to mention a turn up for the books if Jurassic World: Dominion‘s brand new reptilian adversary was played entirely for laughs instead of terrorizing the human cast.

Amazon’s Welcome To The Blumhouse Returning In October With 4 New Movies

Having already conquered the big screen by gaining a reputation as one of Hollywood’s premiere hit factories, Blumhouse have expanded into the world of streaming exclusives via a partnership with Amazon that’s set to continue shining a spotlight on some of the horror genre’s rising stars.

The initial quartet of Welcome to the Blumhouse movies arrived last October, with the first pair debuting on October 6th and the other two premiering a week later. Admittedly, reviews were hardly enthusiastic all across the board, but as an experimental anthology series it’s definitely worth continuing, especially when fans around the world love to devour as much content as humanly possible throughout the spookiest month of the year.

The good news is that Welcome to the Blumhouse is back in October, with four new features boasting a mix of recognizable names and unknowns. Bingo Hell and Black as Night will both arrive on October 1st, promising wildly different explorations of standard horror tropes.

The former finds a senior citizen protecting her neighborhood from an evil force that’s taken over the local bingo hall, with Gigi Saul Guerrero co-writing and directing, and the latter follows a revenge-fueled teenager battling vampires in New Orleans, with Maritte Lee Go directing from a script by Sherman Payne.

A couple moving to a migrant farming community in 1970s California experience terrifying visions in Ryan Zaragoza’s Madres starring Black Panther: Wakanda Forever‘s Tenoch Huerta, and Axelle Carolyn writes and directs The Manor, where a stroke victim finds herself convinced a malevolent entity is killing the residents at the titular nursing home.

That’s four brand new movies with enticingly high concepts and intriguing premises, setting up the return of Welcome to the Blumhouse as something to keep an eye on.
